I definitely plan on taking a trip back to TSC with my girl and my daughter to re live the memories when I was there for A-School as a perspective ET. one of the things I learned while in the Navy, I served aboard the USS Boxer LHD-4 out of San Diego, Ca got to see the world, cultures, the beauty of the world......the world , cultures are amazing and we in the USA are a minuscule to whats out there......I was also stationed in Rota, Spain. Absolutely AMAZING. The Spanish, the culture, the things to do......the ancient cities, Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla (Seville) Ronda....(thats just the southern part of Spain -Andalucia -where Naval Station Rota, Spain is located......saw other parts of Europe, Germany, France, Portugal, England.....but really, in my opinion nothing beats the heart beat of Spain......never ever boring......ever. Always some fiesta or something to do! I hope you are blessed to do the same, I saw your other videos ! Great acting and great videos, keep up the awesome work ! Thanks !

    Sorry to say that the only part of the base that I recognized in your entire footage was the tower. A hell of a lot has changed since 1988, especially the complete absence of the "Green House" gun school, demolished several years ago. :(

    I was there in 89-90 and sad to hear that they demolished my old gunners mate school. Like you the only bldg. I recognized was the tower. Seems like they have it a lot cushier now as we didn't have our own head in our room along with a kitchenette, and everything else you would need at your fingertips. That mess hall blew me away with the choices that they had, I'm jealous as I wish I was now young enough to go back in.

    @@michaelb.8953 Testify When I found about the loss of the "Green House," I was surprised by how sad that made me. I went there from February-November, finishing the MK42 school before moving on to the fleet. Time marches on, right? It's good to hear from another Gunner's Mate who was there very close to the same time that I was.

    @@tstahler5420 Interesting to hear from someone who went through later than I did. Clearly, GM school had finally incorporated the BEE course by the time you were there. Sorry to hear that you rocked out, too. FWIW, when I was there, the BEE course was a standalone course that we all had to pass before moving on to the GM school itself, and believe me, I knew dozens of guys who rocked out of BEE. I never knew or even heard of anyone who rocked out of GM 'A' school itself, but honestly I have no idea how anyone who had passed the minimum standards of the ASVAB before enlisting couldn't pass it, LOL. However, we had one guy in our class of the MK42 'C' school who actually rocked out on his final exam, which I found so embarrassing for him. He was a heavy drinker who really didn't put any effort into school, though. MK42 school was definitely tougher than the 'A' school, but anyone rocking out of it after having made it through the other two schools first *really* had to drop the ball. Glad to hear from another guy who went to the same place, even though you didn't quite make it through. I wish I could do it all over again.

    I will be an ET. My main concern as far as "A" and "C" schools go are what the living situations will be for my wife. We already found out that she will have to stay in my hometown (while I live in the barracks) while I'm going to the first school, and then they should be able to move her to Great Lakes while I'm going to my ET school, which is 42 weeks.

  • @chrismayfield4345

    @chrismayfield4345

    7 жыл бұрын

    +Riley Mocabee while you're in boot camp she will have to stay behind but as soon as you get to this command you can fill out the paperwork to have her moved up here. Since you're already married the navy will pay for the move. Since she's already on his page two things will move pretty quick. It shouldn't take but a week or two as far as I know. You'll have a barracks room where you will stay every 4 days for duty but you get to go home every night after that. Also if your C school is too short, the navy won't pay for her to move but you can always choose to move her yourself!

Very strange not seeing the very old Green Glass Gun School in front of the galley. So much has changed. The only real thing I noticed that was still there was the track, galley, and the navy fed.

    Glad to at least hear from someone close to the time frame that I was there! I was in boot camp from September to November of 1987, then over to the other side of the base from December of 1987 to October 1988. I saw something I had never before scene on December 15, 1987: a snow-thunder, i.e. green lightning jumping from cloud to cloud during a sever snowstorm with 60+ mph winds. I know the exact date because at the time, we were all in formation to get our pay, always held on the first and fifteenth of each month at the time.

    That's funny as I was just telling my son today about when I was in Great Lakes "A" school in the winter of 1989 and it was -50 below zero with that wind whipping off of Lake Michigan. I remember that exact same time frame that you're talking about as I arrived in Great Lakes "A" school in October of 1989 and was there until May of 1990. I started boot camp across the street in July of 1989 and that was a really hot summer with the temps getting upwards of 100 degrees. Sucks being in boot with those kind of temps, but better that than the alternative of shoveling snow at 3am. My daughter is there now at Great Lakes boot camp getting ready to graduate in about two weeks with her twin brother getting ready to depart for there in about a week or so.

    the BM rating is VERY demanding. You will do a lot, never boring, you do all things that pertain to the running of the ship on deck, from maintenance to actually driving the ship up on the bridge, you will stand watch while underway and that is done 24/7 as you can see from the USS Fitz ...look out watches are of utter importance for the safety of the ship, 7 sailors were killed because of improper watch. You will rotate on watch and there are some days you will have little sleep....for example if you have the balls to 4 then guess what, you get to bed at 330 and you are up at 0600 , Reveille. You have to press on, then it rotates accordingly then you will have the 4 to 8 watch etc etc etc....when I was in 98 to 06 there really wasn't an school for BM everything was all on job training from what I heard...saw.......now they class up pretty fast , but from knowing BM on board ship ...its pretty techincal you have to know a lot of stuff, incredible how much you have to know.......they do everything.
