In this video I’ll take you in a lively guided tour of the Surgical center where I work as a fellow in Oculoplastic Surgery which is a subset of ophthalmology.

Im SUPER interested in how that room gets cleaned in between patients. You would literally have to wipe every item with a surface, in that entire room!

Great tour, Dr. Keenum! It would be really helpful if you could do a video about tips for medical students that want to stand out in the ophthalmology rotation

Really interesting video. While I don’t know if I could ever perform a surgery, I do find industrial and institutional equipment super fascinating. Just wish you could have shown us the autoclaves you use to sterilize the instruments. Also quick question for you. I noticed the x-ray lamps on the wall in the OR. Do you still use those? Or is the film all done electronically now?

Hi I am considering ophthalmology but I'm worried about it getting repetitive and boring with doing the same procedures most of the time like cataracts . Would really appreciate your input on this

I worried about this at one point, but I loved that surgery very much. The beauty of it is that it is a highly technical surgery that is perfectable. I don’t think it would’ve bored me but oculoplastics has even more variety. Anything that you plan on getting good at thoughw ill require a degree of repetition.
