My First Night Shift | Operating Room Nurse / Surgical Nurse

I vlogged my first night shift as an operating room nurse! It was a 7PM-7AM shift. It wasn't so bad; I'd say the most challenging part was staying alert and awake during the late hours. Experiencing this shift made me realize how much of a morning person I actually am! (shocker). Do you remember your first night shift? Tell me all about it in the comments! :) - B

I’m so glad to see you’re still working in the OR. I’ve been applying to many OR positions but still no luck. In the meantime, I’m trying to get more certifications on the side (acls, pals, etc). How long did it take you to land a job?

I hope you get one soon! It rly depends on the demand of the places you apply to. I was lucky enough to wait only a little over a month in finding an OR job that also hired new grads.

I have so many questions, so sorry. lol 1.Did you not like night shift just because your body is use to the morning? 2. When you only have one case, what do you do the rest of the shift? 3. Would you consider night shift to be more chill and relaxed compared to the morning? 4. Did you get a 2nd person because you're still pretty new or is that normal but rare?

  • @BellaUnfiltered

That’s okay! Questions are welcomed 😊 1. Yes pretty much. But also there’s not many cases to do and I like to be more active and productive. 2. Three possibilities. Either I get reassigned to another room, or I’m “on the side” in case there’s an add-on or emergency, or I give lunch breaks to other rooms. 3. Yes, but it can be stressful as a newbie in a way that not a lot of help is around so you have to do most things yourself. 4. Sorry, what do you mean by this? 😅 Like having my friend in the room, too?

@@toniprater8532 No problem! Oh I see. In most cases there should be at least 2 people staffed in a room. 1 circulating RN and 1 scrub nurse/scrub tech. But you do get doubled with a preceptor when you’re new. Relative to the video, I was the scrub and my friend was circulating. :)
