Tour of a Nomad Living Cheap in a Minivan

THESE INTERVIEWS AND TOURS WERE FILMED LAST WINTER
Today we are taking a tour with Andrew in his 2005 Toyota Sienna. Andrew shows us how we can all own less and live more! He has had this minivan for 6 months and just built it out with a bed and kitchen set up. Andrew is a digital nomad and definitely a minimalist. He took all the seats out of van and works at a small table inside the van as his office.

I just took a shower with a 2.5 gallon garden sprayer.....ive lived in a minivan for over 3 years......im 59 years old in Florida......got some damage to my body so I live on SSDI $1100 a month and a little flea market flipping......im single so living is not expensive......life is good..... I'm happy.

@@susanmorgan418 hi Susan.....I use a sturdy spray bottle with ice cold water and a small fan blowing on me while I park in the shade.....I have a 2 gallon drinking water cooler and a large yet I type cooler sitting where the front passenger seat was.....i wear light weight clothing and spray myself with the cold water and let the evaporation cool me down......same thing at night plus a bug net because I usually leave both side sliding doors open.... It's been very hot for the last three summers here in Florida but I do quite well keeping comfortable .....I also got the silver rolls of Thin insulation and carefully cut it to fit all the windows in the van....that helps reflect the sun too.....always try to park in some shade.....Im also near many cool springs on nearby rivers in the area and can go hang out there any time I want..... We have ice machines scattered about that sell ice cheap around town ... 20# for $1.25 -$2.00.......its not as good as having AC but it's not nearly as expensive as a house with an electric bill......I wear shorts and fluo flops too or go bare foot......I don't hang out in town either .......I have my regular spots in rural areas.

I am hoping to be in my van before the end of the year, and I am also on SSDI, but at $1090 mth. After ins, other car expenses, prescriptions, and food, there is no money for rent. I'm SO glad to hear you are able to do it. Makes me feel more confident that I can do it, too, if I can do a small side hustle as well! Thank you!

"Own less, do more" We are still learning this fact. We lived full time on the road for over 6 years and then we started renting a RV site by the month and it has a shed. That shed is already full of crap after only 5 months of renting this space. Now I have to sell it all because we are already sick and tired of the demands of city living.

@@ThisLandHasMrE I can see that, maybe a combination of something telescoping with a wider foot print for stability. 2 pieces of wood, one being shorter than the other so it can rotate inside the larger piece to fold up and take less space for storage. The larger piece would need to be extended on the end so it touches the ground at the same point the shorter piece does. I hope that makes sense.
