Tour Little House, Oleson's Store & the Church [CG Tour]
Come take a tour of the home from Little House on the Prairie, Oleson's Mercantile and the School and Church. We'll walk around inside of Walnut Grove, and walk around inside of the Ingalls' home as if it were a real life house. Michael Landon starred in and produced Little House on the Prairie. The show also starred Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert and Melissa Sue Anderson.

Love little house on the prairie it's a classic ♥️ Lenora
I always appreciated the fact that they kept it fairly authentic to period in that the house was pretty small. Also, if you will notice, the ladies only had just a two or three dresses like they would have owned at that time. Even when Laura started teaching, she only had the one nice dress. I always appreciated that attention to detail.

Having grown up on a working farm the house was used mostly for eating and sleeping. The rest of the time was spent outside working. My Mum and Aunts spent the majority of the day preparing meals and washing up. I always liked this series as it depicted farm life quite accurately and showed how a good or bad crop decided if you would have a good or bad winter. Amazing tour ... right down to the crack in the plaster in the bedroom. This episode was spot on! Thank you as always for bringing so many great memories back. ❤🏡

It doesn't look to me like they would have had room. But this wasn't the first family where the parents had to, shall we say, be very careful to keep an eye out for when the children were asleep. And they won't be the last. To this day, there are plenty of families in impoverished countries who live in huts where the parents deal with the same problem.

As I recall, Willy and Nellie's bedrooms were up those stairs in the mercantile, and the door in the back led to a very fancy parlor and dining room. I agree that the Ingalls home was by far the home-iest in all of Walnut Grove, because it was filled with so much family laughter and love. Thank you so much for making this video!

In 1976, I had the privilege of visiting the closed set of Little House on the Prairie. The layout of course was nothing like this as it had to be camera accessible. There were no "upstairs" rooms as I recall. The girls bedroom was on the same level as everything else. Even most, if not all outside scenes were filmed indoors for better sound control. Wouldn't want an airplane flying over while filming! Thank you for this wonderful rendition.

Why would you say that most, if not all, OUTDOOR scenes were shot indoors? That's not true at all! Unless you mean nighttime scenes. But no, outdoor scenes, like in the town of Walnut Grove, were mostly shot in Simi Valley, California... outdoors.
I bet part of the reason why this was one of the rare TV homes where the interior matched the exterior was because the house--and store and church--were so simple that it was much easier to get them to match up.

What a great tour of Walnut Grove! Little House was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. Although the house was modest, I'm sure it was built sturdy and well because Charles built it himself with all the integrity that was him. This house would probably sell in today's tiny house market, especially with those wood beams, hardwood floors and the sturdy materials that Charles would have used. Just needs an indoor bathroom!

Great work- I love what you do. This show was very much part of growing up for me; I would have been around Laura's age, and I watched, usually with my mom, from the pilot film on. I have a vivid memory- accurate or not- of the house being surrounded by wolves at night and the family trapped inside. Years later this came back to me in a dream in a very uncertain moment in my life. I was leaving for art school, across the country in California in a few days, extremely nervous about it, and I dreamed I was in that house, surrounded by wolves. Every time they attacked I had a perfect weapon in hand and everyone was safe. I woke up feeling great. It was my mind's way of telling me I was equal to the challenge and was going to be o.k. And I was...

Your tour was lovely, as always! Their little cabin looks so cozy, I love all the natural materials. And my boy was very interested in the ladder! Who doesn't love a loft!?
A man out of town started building the kitchen while Charles was working out of town. That episode was wild.😮

Marina, have you considered doing the homes from Sarah Plain and Tall? There's four unique homes in that movie: Sarah's home with her brother Will in Maine and the home of her aunts next door along with Jacob Whitten's home, Matthew and Matggie's place, and like Little House, there's also astore. Too bad they didn't make the loft like in On the Banks of Plum Creek. In that book the loft went across the whole length of the house..If they built the loft that way on Little House, the Ingallses would have had more room in the loft when they adopted Albert, and then James and Cassandra. They could have used half the loft for Albert and James, and half for Carrie and Cassandra.

Grew up watching this show. The Ingalls house was so efficiently designed and you really got the sense that everything in it was made by one person. And yes, even the other simple country homes always had a tiny bit of "luxury" the Ingalls never had, even if it was just a single plush chair or rooms separated by a door. My favorite scenes always involved Mrs Olesen or Nellie. Plus I always had rather "fancy" taste as a child (🙄) so I enjoyed scenes in the Olesen's Victorian parlor. Although I did think it'd be cool to have a loft bedroom!

Impressive job, Marina! This has been a long time coming. I agree the set designers did a great job with LHOTP! The buildings were ingenious, and good point that the exteriors matched the interiors! So smart they made the church a multi-purpose building; makes total sense. The show’s sets have some of the best “sense of place”-to use the architectural term-of any television show! Loved that interview with Karen; she sure looks great for her age! I’m surprised you don’t have 10x the subscribers. I grew up watching this TV Show and loved it. Loved when Charles built that house and seen other houses that were lovelier, but hey, when it's only one man building it, I'd say that it was awesome. I noticed though when the video was touring the main part of the house, through the one window, there was a white picket fencing. Sorry, but I've never seen any fences around their house in the series though and there was no trees directly in front of that window either. Across from their 'road' there was a huge field and to the right of that house, through that same window, was their barn. There was also an outhouse in front of that barn ... up the hill, facing the house and later a guest house was added. Oh, how we used to have great TV shows. Sounds a little strange to anyone who doesn’t love the show and books like we do! 💕 Great video and new sub
Like Laura...I was also 10 years old when this show aired. It was my favorite show at the time. I could relate so much to the story since my grandparents lived such a life in a rural area and when I lived with them I experienced this type of living which I miss very much. It was so simple then. I think I am going to have a "little house on the prairie" marathon!

I did. And I thank God for it every single day@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane
I loved it, even though it was small, it still felt like home, and I never knew they add on a kitchen on the show, I should've known about it but I didn't.

Yes - that guy from Buck Rogers came and added on the kitchen. He was flirting mildly with Caroline, and the girls got the wrong end of the stick and thought they were up to it.
Excellent job

I remember the first time I watched LHOTP. I fell head over heals in love with the show. It also started my love of log cabins. Someday I will live in one!

Beautifull!!! ❤😍
This is great - well done!!!!
I have always thought I am the only one who pays attention to, and obsesses over, home details like this. I do believe "Caroline" had a dresser behind the stone fireplace wall where she brushed her hair, directly under the loft dresser. Thank you for sharing this! What fun to re-live this pleasant space.❤

Yes! I remember her sitting there brushing her hair at night. It was the only times we got to see her long beautiful hair not pinned up
Enjoyed the tour immensely. Carol from California

Wow cool, great work! Must have been some extra challenges in this dealing with the rough textures of frontier homes.

I was a little worried about making it realistic.
This is awesome, to be able to sneak around my most favourite house on TV. I always wanted to live in this house and have my bedroom where Laura and Mary did. They had the basics but we forget to easily today that that is all we really need. Thanks for this x
