Top commentary Josh! Request from my mum to add some scenery. Great to see it on the map but it would be nice to see what the dots are experiencing!

Thanks for the update Josh. Look forward to following the race as a beginner bike-packer who has only done one long distance solo bike tour but the Tour Divide was an inspiration.

Thanks for the memories! I stayed at that Ksanka motel when I rode the ACA Northern Tier Route across the U.S. One of the nicest gas station motels in the U.S. which is saying something. Heavy rain and a gas station motel is real living on a bike tour. ☮

LTD (Laurens ten Dam) isn’t necessarily in it to win it, he has the objective to win at some point but knows he doesn’t have the experience. As such, he has a bit more gear than most of the top contenders and plans to sleep often, more then Lachlan Morton probably. As long as LTD stays close to the lead with that strategy he might keep challenging but don’t be surprised if he simply lets go: he wants the experience of how to handle this event more than anything to be able to challenge in the coming years.

Good, so it is correct to say that the Tour Divide is a race and a route; Mike Hall holds the record for the fastest race time and Lachlan Morton hold the fastest ITT time, surely there is no need for confusion -- Or am I missing something?

Great coverage, Josh...as always! Your insight is really superb. As the race settles down, maybe you could cast some light on some of the interesting back in the pack riders. Edyn Teitge is really tearing it up...at age 15! Surely he must be the youngest rider ever, and he seems to be doing it unchaperoned. Is that right? And what's with all the New Zealand riders? More and more Kiwis seem to be making the trek each year. Is there a story behind that?

  • @milesteitge1841

Thanks for noticing Edyn! He is just a baby, and yet fierce and determined to make his mark! I worry about his growing body(repetitive motion injury) and staying fueled on poor quality food. He is plugging away tho. Two flat tires and apparently tried to sew/superglue together a small rip in his tire so that he could set it up tubeless again. Reports his knee is feeling it :( Otherwise, dude is a 15 y/o mid-puberty powerhouse, in a full on race mindset. And the kindest feller too. Last seen ordering four burgers in Whitefish, and packing most away for future reference(Bear magnet?) Send tailwinds, snow free passes and healthy knee wishes…

Very Early in day three: the three leaders are on the trails, some still some already. Prediction for day 3: Uba will play it conservative and will check in a Motel around 7pm local time in Lincoln. Laurens will pass through Lincoln about 2 hours early and push on to Helena, where he will take a motel little after sunset. Justinas will just be minutes in front of Laurens in Lincoln. He won’t keep the pace in the following pass and then he stays with the Alpakas at Lama Ranch, half way between Lincoln and Helena.

On the other hand Laurens sponsor just said, that Lincoln is the plan for tonight. I’m impressed by the planing he and his team have considering they are rookies.

As it seems from day one, it’s likely LTD is intrinsically the fastest guy out there, being close without the experience of this event, but how much does experience matter here versus the strength of a former top ten Tour de France finisher?

It was in the 2016 Tour Divide in pretty much perfect conditions. Also at the time Koko claims was not on the route and racers took the highway from Sparwood to Fernie. None the less it’s an incredible time that’s stood the test of time
