The tent screen thing alone made this worth watching. Great idea.

It’s mind boggling to me that two people can live in a ProMaster City. They have a great build but the fact that they can deal with the limited space really speaks to their character. 👍🏼

This will be similar to our van for us next year. A van conversion company will be doing this for us in the Fiat Doblo Cargo Maxi, which is the ProMaster City equivalent here in Europe.

The trick is to go this route if you have a mindset to live OUT of your van, rather than live IN your van. Those that want to get out every day, hike, sightsee, shop, wander, explore or just set in a chair in an awesome screen room like this one that sets up in 45 seconds: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJmK1qaEpbvMY5s.html Those people are perfect for vans like this, and get the benefit of Ultimate Stealth ability camping, and 24 mpg overall, as opposed to anything bigger that will drop you down to 15 mpg. I know, I've gone over every vehicle available in my search for what I want. So I'm going ProMaster City like this also, since the Nissan is underpowered to spend much time in the Rockies, and the Transit Connect (after 2013) gives up 2" in height. The RAM is just best in class in this category, and here in FL I'm seeing some pretty good prices on recent model used ones...

Just buy bug net and sew in magnets to close it. I have seen other van dwellers have it. Cheap, easy, and it works.

We had a Promaster city used car come in the other day my first thought was turning it into a nice living space but someone had already bought it before I could get a price on it. They came back in to get a spare tire installed and they had a little cot and propane stove in the back it looked like. IDK if they were just using it for camping or using it full time but I was jealous either way.

And if you thought you were tight in a micro-van like this one.....you just met a couple that also lives in one F/T !!! And, like you said, they seem to have a better use of the space.....Although no stealth for them at all.

Drove a promaster city for work for about 4 years. They are great in the city on the highway they handle great but they tend to be a bit noisy. All in all a great little van.

I could live without the tv and oven..... but the tent / screen is a great idea I have never seen before..! Great job guys

love the 4 security cameras setup, wanna do that in my build someday

I had no idea you could get that much in there. I've been on the fence over a smaller van vs full size cargo van. This may be my choice. Thank you.

Only problem is, with all the stuff on the roof and the contractor-style of the Promaster, it'd be hard to get away with parking in some random neighborhood, while your Element would probably go undetected by nosy neighbors.

Nice interview. I like his tent idea for an instant screen set up, tho it would need to be a used one. I guess the surveillance gear might keep people away from their antenna and temptations to peak in? I'd focus on lights and motion detector versus all the cams. They had some cool ideas for their van. Especially liked the tent in the doorway. Guess they aren't afraid of letting folks know who they are with the decal on their van. I'd have major toilet issues with my partner in the van with me. LOL

I really enjoyed this tour. Very well-thought-out rig. That tent screen on the side door is super cool. Never seen anything like that before on a van. Great little oven, too. Don't see those too often in a small space. Thanks Nate and Mike and Stephanie. (And who is Sheldon?)

Cool van. I'd rather have a shower instead of a toilet. Public showers are worse than public bathrooms. In my opinion, glad you're back.

I cant decide between the Promaster low roof and the Promaster city. I guess you can live in the City, but I have to think you're going to be more comfy in the Promaster, no?

The biggest difference is 24 mpg, versus dropping down to 15 mpg... First decision anyone considering Vanning has to make is: do I want to Live IN my van, or Live OUT of my van. So vans like this are for those that spend the days outside of the vehicle, whether hiking, sightseeing, shopping, library, coffeeshop or even just a screen tent that sets up in 45 seconds: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJmK1qaEpbvMY5s.html However, those that have to take their Playstation with them and don't want to be out the vast majority of their days, or are willing to give up most of stealth camping to trade for creature comforts, should go the larger route.

Screen Doors - YES Messy and full of junk - NO

Go with the low Promaster and you will not have to have all your stuff hanging off the van .5' 3" headroom and 10 ' of floor length behind seats.

I love this couple. Very smart.

Need a better hand held cameraman. Quirky camera rig - almost paranoid. I like the roof rack. I like the tent re-purposed for screens. A lot of good concepts - just needing a refinement.

Impressive though to live in small and close space requires organisation and high degree of discipline . I lived like that for 6 years and it drove me insane with frustration . Also a roof fan vent is an absolute must as you'll find the heat will be stifling in the extreme in the summer if you can't find shade. So currently in the market for something bigger like a Transit , Ducato or Sprinter for room to breathe and standing room . Also I'll go manual transmission this time , automatic transmission is luxurious until you breakdown and need a tow . You can tow a auto in neutral but have to tow at very low speed and very short distances . I know a young couple who lived out of a Nissan Terrano four five years and still loving it , not for me I'm afraid . Good luck to you both .

These 2 obviously aren't broke they should have got a real pro master they would be living like kings. I'm an expeditor I have so much Room in my Van and I make money carrying pallets around.

It looks like they can afford a bigger van because of the surveillance gear and other items I thought looked expensive. Just wondering.

Anything bigger at all takes you from 24 mpg down to 15 mpg overall. You also can lose stealth camping if people see it's big enough to obviously sleep someone. Not everything is about "afford".

I skipped around a bit and got to the point where they point out their surveillance system... What's the point in living in this small van if you have all of this shit crammed into it?

The "point" is to travel. When you buy a van, the first thing a smart person asks themself is: Do i want this van to Live IN, or to Live Out of. People that want to live OUT of a van go hiking, sightseeing, shopping, libraries, bookstores or just spend their days reading, relaxing or doing crafts in a screened room that sets up in 45 seconds: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJmK1qaEpbvMY5s.html They don't care about having a vehicle to sit in all day long. But those that need their Playstation, or need every modern convenience, in a large space they want to stay in a majority of the time (and I'm NOT saying there's anything wrong with this; as I said IT'S A PERSONAL DECISION), then those people should buy a larger RV and have what THEY want. But to be clear, these are the TRADEOFFS: a. This van gets 24 mpg overall. Anything (and I know: I've spent 2 months poring over EVERY SINGLE OPTION OUT THERE) larger than this drops you to 15 mpg overall. b. Anything larger than this reduces chances of Stealth Camping. If you don't know what that is, search KZread. Stealth camping is HUGE for those on a strict budget, or those that want to live out of their van and prioritize travel and the outdoors over the trappings of consumerism (see Toby's "TobyNTransit" channel on KZread for an example of someone that just wants to travel and hike, and lives on working just 4 months a year) c. This thing drives like a car, not like a bus, and goes through drive through restaurant windows. So, yes, they cram things in. Many do better or more organized than the example here, but the bottom line is if they have what they need when they need it in order to cook a meal or manage their life, it's on them if it isn't perfectly organized... So they point of "having all that shit crammed into it" is that that is ALL THAT MOST LONG TIME VANNERS NEED, and it BARELY FITS.

It's just so busy and cluttered... there's guy to be a better way to organize and stash stuff.

So much for stealth.

Spend all that money on surveillance and didn’t spend any on propane safety. Propane bottles and junctions need to be outside and away from the cars intake.

Way too cramped. In these little guys I would only really want a counter top with a sink and some storage, with some space for my bed beside it. Otherwise it just gets way too complicated.

Not loons, just cautious, and have their lives and possessions in that van. A. Stealth Camping often means in the city where anyone can see or walk up to your van. Hearing sounds outside, it's good to be able to see what's going on, without jumping out into the middle of an unknown situation. B. Sometimes you just wanna see what's going on outside: kzread.info/dash/bejne/emmkl62jgMLbZ9I.html It's not like he mortgaged the van to buy the setup. Those are backup car cameras, $10 a pop. And you can buy the whole system for $125 these days (Dec. 2018).
