touch grass. (a short film)

Фильм және анимация

Thanks Joshua Brown for acting in this film and for being so patient with me! Even though this was a relatively simple project, there were a lot of firsts for me and I learned a ton making it. Hope you enjoy it!

That’s a cool concept, taken probably from a phrase that one can easily find being casually thrown around in today’s social media glossary - Go out and “touch some grass”. Kudos to you and the people involved in the production, we need more short films like these (and I’m about to contribute in that). Alright, off to touch some grass 🌱☘️…

I needed to see this today... Sometimes I get lost thinking about all the suffering that is happening around the world, and feeling like I can't really do anything about it. I try to do good around me and my community, and even though I don't have much I still feel like I live in a privileged little bubble away from the horrors of war and extreme poverty. That thought sometimes consumes me. I guess I just need to touch some grass

As a fellow creator who just made the move from NYC to Denver, this hit close to home. I lived in NYC all throughout the rise and peak and through the end of the pandemic, and the constant news cycles and noise surrounding everything was deafening. The ringing effect that you added was essentially what my mind felt like every day. Getting out to CO, and taking a breath in was like a reset. This video almost feels nostalgic as it also looks forward. Incredible work as always, Jake!

Interesting perspective. Give the obverse a try. The state of mind that develops while dwelling in the remote 'natural' environment. You know, the unending search for food, secure shelter, protection from predation or attack by other groups that want your 'stuff', reliable and safe water supply and the unending 'assault' of the elements. That, after all, is what led us to where we are now...in a very brief span of about 2.5 million yrs- most of the rapid changes occurring in the last blink of 25 k yrs.

Man I've been thinking and talking to my friends and family about this so much recently. It's easy to live in a bubble of negativity because horrible information gets the most engagement and therefore the most attention on the internet. That makes sense because of our higher sensitivity to negative information. I made the choice to step away from my phone, social media (except youtube sometimes) and the news because I started losing any hope that the future could be better then now... In fact it became a doom spiral that caused me to become ultra pessimistic about any endeavour I was pursuing. I became a black hole, sucking all the light out of anyone that happened to be in my way. The thing was, when I put the phone down and looked around the room, I saw none of the things that I was consuming. My life was actually pretty good, great actually. The further I got away from the internet, the more positive and hopeful I became for the future. Yeah, there's still so much bad in the world, but is it happening to you? Maybe it is. But, why make it worse by taking in the horrors of the world? What are you going to do about it anyway? Simply knowing about it or discussing it over a coffee with your friends still doesn't change jack f*** all. My opinion is that it's better to block it out, be more positive and try to lift up the people around you because you're just great to be around: Lift up your corner of the world. You know that feeling when a stranger compliments you or flashes you a kind smile? Yeah, that s*** feels nice. You could be that nice. We all could be that nice. It's so easy to fall back into the trap of junk content aimed at your limbic system for vanity metrics, just like it's easier to smash chocolate than broccoli, but damn I'm trying. This video encapsulates that feeling perfectly, and I loved it.

Although unfortunately a monster rash has overtaken my leftermost arm and these doctors are calling it an allergic reaction or something, I don’t know doctors are so unreliable these days.
