Toto were formed in LA in the late 70's by a group of friends who were all much in demand session musicians. They went on to epitomise the classic American pop/rock sound of the 80's and 90's with hit albums and singles including Hold The Line, Africa, I Won't Hold You Back and the multi-Grammy winning Rosanna.
Live In Amsterdam was recorded in front of a fanatical crowd in 2003 during the world tour in support of their album "Through The Looking Glass". The set includes all their hits, tracks from that album together with live favourites.
This track is from the full concert DVD "Live in Amsterdam", available now from Eagle Vision.

Mike Porcaro was an absolute legend. I think the only Toto-bassist who played the right slap part in the chours, glad to see many people recognize his talent.

Yeah he seems to be. Leland Sklar is one of the greats but he always just seems to play that bit with his fingers. Which just doesn’t have the same sound.

Hungates slap parts in the origin left a lot of room for the percussion, Trust me anyone who's ever played in toto knows exactly what they're doing. Can't just half ass these songs

In the recording of the original song on the album Toto IV the one who plays is David Hungate, even though Mike is the one who appears in the video, so in reality the creator of that beautiful piece is Dave

Mike was the heart of the rhythm of Toto, along with Jeff. Kudos to others, but one is Mike and his bass sound.

Whould give anything in the world to travel back in time and listen TOTO in their prime line-up: Lukather, Paich, Jeff Porcaro (Simon Philips also does great job), Mike Porcaro and Bobby Kimball. Every one of them had something unique that made them so great together. No matter how they sound now, as age may have got some of them, songs and performances they did will last for ever..

well, technically speaking, Mike was not an original toto member. he took David Hungate's place who was the original toto bassist. but i agree with you. i envy people who saw them live in their prime.

E serviram mesmo. A diferença é que o Toto tem uma pegada com mais groove, enquanto que o Roupa Nova trabalha mais nas baladas românticas. Mas a capacidade musical de ambas as bandas é a mesma. Quem também tinha o Toto como inspiração, era o saudoso maestro arranjador Lincoln Olivetti. Se for analisar algumas músicas e álbuns produzidos e arranjados por ele, você vai reparar as semelhanças não só com o Toto, mas também com outras bandas da mesma época, como Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers e muitos outros.

Man I love this song, but what about the end sequence!!!! Steve Lukather legend on Guitar and keys as well it seems. Then we have another Legend, Dave on keys. Then we have the boss on Bass Mike, R.I.P brother. Bobby had some killer vocals too and of course Steve P on second keys. What a phenomenonal line up.

@@frederikhadrich4032 oh for sure, he is good in his own right. I was was paying tribute to the originals of the band. Otherwise I WOULD have mentioned all of the other great musicians that have made up this band over the decades.
