Wharfedale brings back the speaker kits for DIY thats fucking insane !!! i was looking trough a book a week ago where many brand had these kits, Wharfedal,Kef,Philips, Monacor, etc i said jees those where times, making people want to make things themselfs and get into the hobby !! LOVE they took the leap to re introduce these !!

What I'd want is a kit for the high end Dovedale speaker, as I can't afford the finished product!

John, I have always appreciated the different approach you take to storytelling in your videos. However, this episode takes that to a different level. I really liked the way you moderated the coverage introducing each small segment. That combined with your B-Roll featuring the show centre, traveling around Munich, and cameo appearances by some friends we all know, resulted in a much more personal delivery than the norm. There were so many listening rooms, it was incredible. Just being there for one day one could only scratch the surface. I worked in Munich for a long time, by the transport Museum. I loved it there, wonderful beer garden by our office. The Wiim streamer with the screen looks interesting due to its price.

Hopefully more brands will follow this great idea, just as it was not uncommon in the 80’s and 90’s when respected brands like Kef, Focal and Dynaudio offered parts or kits for the diy community, what great days those were…

Ive built the original unit 3 and unit 5 kits. The unit 3 is built as a super linton and unit 5 as a dovedale. I love my collection of vintage wharfedales. My main living room speskers are a set of w70d rosedales. Great speakers with 96db sensitivey. Sound great with early solid state and tubes.

I think you are the only Hifi KZreadr I really watch because of you Hifi-gear and music taste. It is really refreshing if somebody is not focusing on these fridge like bombastic enclosures where you are always under the impression you pay per Kg like for Aufschnitt. And you live long enough in Germany if you know what SchniPoSchranke is. 😢

@31:26 He totally side stepped the question of edge diffraction. Perhaps he doesn't really know what it is. He seems to be saying that the quality of the craftsmanship is more important than the physics of the enclosure design.

I did some podcasting a few years ago in these shows. I tested head worn DPA and Sennheiser mics, stage mics etc. etc. I think in my 4th year I finally figured it out. Three main things. 1. Get a room sound (1 minute or so of just the auditorium ) to use in a noise reduction plugin (such as Waves x-noise or better). Reduce the sound in post. 2. Use one microphone made fir ENG. (I tried 2 but its hard to match from on person to the other). Stage mics are too directional and performance mics like lavaliere DPAs can work as backup, but the sound won’t match the person you’re interviewing and it looks goofy to hold a lavaliere. 3. Practice. With an ENG mic you can hold it closer or farther away from the person you’re interviewing and make adjustments based in how loud they talk or the environment. Walls matter. Using the same mic on yourself and the interviewee puts both people in a single audio track but it forces you to not talk at the same time so it makes editing easier. And since you aren’t using an iso tracks you can record in stereo from the get go. Although once you use noise reduction you do have to tweak it. If you want effects on your voice only you’ll have creat 2 tracks-and apply the effect to that track - which is easier in some editing programs than others. All this was audio only via Sound Devices. I’m learning video now but these audio tips still apply. Great content
