I remember in one of the novels in the Orion series, that at a celebration of wood elf nobles, one them going on about how entertaining the two kidnapped human children have been who are living at his estate, even having them blessed with magic to maintain their youth. My first response was "that's absolutely awfu.... wait a second, the only human lands that border Athel Loren are Bretonnia...well good for those kids then", probably better than growing up as peasants in Bretonnia and used as cannon fodder.

I wanna be a tree lady, not like a dryad where I'm rolling all over, but an alraune, due to being rooted in the ground, my army cannot actually move across the map. Survival mode engaged. (that would actually be interesting, you'd have to recruit new lords to go out and attack elsewhere, whilst defending your sole starting army., it could potentially be interesting if lore breaking.).

Nah, cinematic trailers are fun to watch. There are well-deserved points of criticism (such as overpricing or lack of identity for sieges), but these are not too broadly discussed in the comment section of videos that have no noteworthy relation to these issues.

The hype is real. New campaign mechanics (that highlight limited elven population, no less) Flying archers (Finally it's possible to wipe out a larger enemy army with zero casualties. Yay.) Lords that can be specialized for ranged combat (about damn time) Lores of Shadow and Life (Ninjawizards and healers FTW!) New beastmen lord? (that'd be nice) Ents! (Okay, treekin, fine, but I'm naming one after Treebeard and there's nothing you can do about it.) The Wild Hunt! (Anyone who has played Witcher is simultaneously sad that it won't be the same, yet happy that they get to do it.) Dragons as units, not just mounts (which is nice) Ahh, the hype. Okay, some of these might be FLC, I think, but still cool. Also, I like the climactic final battle idea that both DLC races look like they'll get. The Fall of Men was the most fun part of the Beastmen main campaign, and it looks like elves are getting their own thing too. I'm really hoping Chaos will get one too, at least.

Dwarves already had ranged flying units, the gyro copters. This still doesn't mean flying ranged units won't die. Each race as some form of dealing with them, VC and Empire especially.

Zinc Goblin True, but a force made up entirely of melee infantry, for example, won't be able to touch flying, ranged units. But yeah, I'd completely forgotten about the gyrocopters. Probably because I never really use them, as they feel underwhelming in comparison to the rest of the dwarven roster. But elves are supposed to be really damn good at shooting, so that might be an interesting addition.

Yes okay very true guys. But honestly I've just felt having dwarves and orcs in a fantasy game but NOT having elves?? Just made me feel dirty. Now I finally feel like the game is well-rounded. But like you say it's only going to get better from here on out with more DLC and more expansions in the future adding new races, new campaigns, new quests, and uncovering new areas of the map and who knows what else. CA have really struck a gold mine here and hopefully they milk this cow for all its worth!!

I'm hoping the next historical Total War game will be Total War Khan. It's basically Medieval 3 with Asian Culture tossed in there, spans all the way from Japan to the British Isles due to the Mongol Empires huge presence and influence in Eurasia. That would possibly be the Total War game of fans dreams. The Mongol faction should start out as a nomadic tribe building your massive empire from scratch. They are literally one of the few Empires that are built from scratch, out of nothing, rather than out of a city-state or established kingdoms. The player will feel rewarded as that small nomadic tribe defeats rival nomadic tribes and than powerful Chinese Kingdoms. By the time the Mongol Empire becomes OP (like Rome from Rome 2), it should feel like a possible powerful ally or a enemy war machine to the factions of the Christendom and the Islamic World. Also it should have the ability to recruit units from defeated factions, like the real Mongol Empire (or rather practically all Empires that have ever existed). It should be a faction that forces the enemy AI to either consider joining the Empire as vassals or band together in an temporary alliance to fight the player playing as the Mongol Empire.

They stated the next historical game will be in an era they've never done before (mentioned here: www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-11-16-the-next-historical-total-war-is-an-era-we-havent-tackled-yet )so while your idea isn't bad, it doesn't sound super likely. Maybe ancient China as the author postulates in the article, romance of the three kingdoms or maybe, just maybe, something later like WW1. Either way it'll be neat i believe.

The datamine's weakness is that it's an old schedule . It can easily change. Regardless it's an obvious move to release the main old world factions in the first game anyway.

I can only imagine Skaven would be one of the more challenging races to implement on the campaign, like under a lot of Imperial cities there is a twisted mirror Skaven city. How would that look on the campaign... unless if they bypass that or rebellions have a play there [maybe up-ing the chances of Skaven rebellions].

Every faction? Don't count on that. They are going to release Warhammer 2 in next year, so wood elves are probably one of the last faction we get.

Super excited about this, Wood Elves and Lizardmen have been my favourites in the table top for years

This is the first game that I have ever eagerly awaited DLC for. The Beastmen were an awesome faction to play for and against and I'm really looking forward to my Wood Elf campaign.

Queek headtaker Until you can point out where Shakespeare included walking trees and flying on eagles (Birnham Wood come to Dunsinane doesn't count), you're going to have to do better than that.

I don't like the mods because they either add units and make minor changes on the campaign map or are incomplete in some way.

Bretonnia are coming out in February next year, they have confirmed this. It will be free as well.

Oh Beastmen, ya'll be screwed now! Looking so much forward to this one, finally some elves! Sadly not my precious High Elves but.. I'll take anything at this point!

that was the wood elf king Oberon. He is tied to the forest itself so he is at his strongest during the spring and summer, he gets weak in fall and dies in winter, only to be reborn from a worthy sacrifice at winters end to defend the forest. That horn he blow summoned the Wild Hunt, a bunch of crazy awesome elf nobles who go to war with Oberon every year.

The Wild Hunt begins! Badass line

From what I cam tell the only things missing from the roster are a spell weaver Lord (though there are spellsinger hero characters), glade captain (though again this is just a hero version of a Lord), shadow dancer, and unicorns. So this is great, and I'm sure that these units will be added at some point via dlc or can be added via a mod.

Coming up next: Witcher DLC! It comes with Bretonia and a new legendary lord called Geralt of Rivia! His abilities are bonus combat against elves and beastmen! :)

Wood Elves are neutral. That's kind of their entire schtick, that they consider themselves the only true Elves left, with the High Elves being arrogant, self-righteous do-gooders, while the Dark Elves are the other side of the coin being arrogant sadomasochistic racial supremacists. The Wood Elves are "humble" (yeah, right) and accept both the light and dark nature of elves and after spending so long in Athel Loren they also emulate nature, both its blessings and cruelties. In practice what this means is that they will go out and help others defend themselves and make it their lifes goal to hunt down chaos corruption, while also going on a yearly marauding hunt/party destroying everything in their path for fun. They also kidnap Bretonnian children, sometimes to save them from a life of poverty, disease or death by making them ageless servants within Athel Loren, other times they were just hungry and stopped by for a quick snack. So they do both good and evil things, because they have a completely different worldview from humans.

they re by no means good,in the grand scheme of things they re neutral,but they spend their time torturing or killing people who get accidentally lost in their forest,and they kidnapp people for fun,rampage trough bretonnian villages for fun,and are a bunch of vicious man-childs who love to do the elven equivalent of burning ants with a loupe.sure,they fight chaos too. but they are locally a big problem for their neightbours. those dudes are by no means neutral.

someone read the army books? they re not neutral,they consider themselves free to do good or bad, and with this freedom in mind,they chose do bad,most of the times,and they love torture and dominance as much as dark elves. they re totally into making villagers eat their own children and are for the most par worse than dark elves,the diference is wood elves stay in they forest most of the time,the dark elves love to do tourism. but thats all

I want the next historical title to be called Total War Khan. Basically it's just Medieval 3 from Japan all the way to the British Isles with some Samurai and Asian Culture thrown in there.

.....and now I'll precede to watch this a million times

creative assembly, I think you are heading into the right direction. Please keep up the great work and the price policy of the last DLC and you will make your fans more happy than ever. Thank you for this great realisation of the source material. p.s. Do you still intend to release Bretonnia or did you stop bothering because of the already available mods?

Tbh i feel like those factions are made for an expasion, because of how popular they are, they dont really fit a stand alone dlc, like beastmen or wood elves. So Skaven will prob come april or somewhere around that, with the first expansion

So this leaves High Elves, Tomb Kings, Lizard Men, Skaven... Anything else?

Skaven is possible to be faction in the game. the tombs kings , lizard men , ogre kingdom can be the like invasion but the high elves and dark elves is not possible.

Creative Assembly are making a trilogy of stand-alone Warhammer games which will expand the campaign map and add new races if you own several of them. If a race is not added to this game, it will be in the coming ones. High Elves, Dark Elves and Lizardmen are most likely added in the second game which will expand the map westward to include their lands.

With the Treemen models I sincerely hope the LoTR mods are just around the next corner..
