Thanks. Oathsworn don't scare me, as they can always be avoided. I'm more worried about what the supporting units can do, like the Heavy Horse while avoiding the spam.

Thanks! I haven't given them nearly the love they deserve. When given attention they can be amazingly good.

I'll try to find more armies that is very hard to counter for some factions! Also thank you for playing with me and proving that its not unbeatable.

For his last stand he could have put the units into shallow formation and made a triangle. Might have helped lessen his casualties and use up your skirmishers ammo inefficiently.

Woulda still had no chance, his skirmishes can shoot the backs of the other side of the triangle of they surround the triangle

Next thing we know Max is gunna up-load a video on how to counter the OP-builds of two DLC/expansions from now, by a faction that doesn't exist yet, using some obscure hidden mechanic, and revealing whatever crap-tier unit of theirs has a 69-bonus vs noobs

Hey, im the one with "the unbeatable build" but basically this argument started over with Army buildings in Ultra settings are way to easy and not much fun bcuz it makes most faction relying on cost effective and with no or just acces to less powerfull elite units kind of worthless . And to point that out i sayd a faction which will have an extremely hard Time beating a sword rush or elite inf , even on normal settings , will now nearly have no chance. And i got to say ur Army set up and the art of deploymnt was realy nice. But before i saw this video i talked to nahrime he told me your build and i was like " pin and Kill his cav most important thing " and he did not a good job doing so. I mean he had 16 Inf units u had 8 and he will win all 8 inf engagements 1vs1 , so that leaves him with 8 inf plus 4 cav to deal with your 6 cav units. So u realy did a great job but Looking on the 2 armys, in order to win ,u realy need to outplay and outmicro your opponent. But again i really liked your set up becuz right now i think originall greek factions (despite maybe epirus with eles) have a realy hard time beating sword heavy rushi armies. I would like to see more videos on How to com out of on Top, on unfaverable macthups. And Btw i love germanic slingers now thanks to u ;)

Chucky McCheese! Yeah, the bigger the funds the more the game will favour elite-spam, so the factions with weak elites and mainly mid-tier units will struggle more than they already do. With no rules and max cheese, we're talking hard-countering barbarians with max elephants and chariots. If my cav died here it would have been GG, which is why I prioritized his weak units I could destroy quicker then the Oathsworn. With more Heavy Horse the build would be even scarier I think to tie down cavalry and get at the skirmishers. Barbarians pretty much shit over Hoplites, so in order for the Greeks to have achance they really need to make use of their superior skirmishers and make heavy use of Shock Cavalry against key units. It only takes a few charges to wreck an entire line of Celtic Warriors, for example. Still, that is not possible on many maps, where a barbarian faction is a better choice than a Hellenic faction. I'll definitely make more videos about how to counter various armies where you are at a disadvantage!

Maximus Decimus Meridius yep most defently, and "making" that build i did not even thought about what Athens could bring to counter me . I just spamed Oathsworm mix in some celts cav and levys, and its still is very hard to beat, despiet taking no thought in it.

BxBaracus Yeah, spamming top tier swords is safe and easy, and very scary if you don't know how to counter them or the map doesn't make it possible. Very easy armies to use, you're essentially making your opponent have to micro and kite alot more, while having few vulnerabilities yourself. Still, an elephant or a chariot..

Maximus Decimus Meridius U saw the Parthians / Armenian Build with like 5 catas 5 skirm alot of cheap inf i would love to see a good counter for that.

This makes me legitimately remember something I did with Massalia, albeit, with most of the skirmishers replaced with Massalian Cavalry and Light Horse, and with the Thracian warriors being replaced with Tarantine Cavalry. The number of Hippeus Lancers was smaller, or course, due to this functioning at a lower budget. Also, I used around two units of Massalian Thureos spears at the flanks of my two Hoplites, and another two Thureos at their rear, due to square formation squandering enemy attempts to flank my units, but forcing them to flank me and an anyhow to stop the flow of javelins. (Massalian Thureos spears have higher morale and health then normal Thureos spears, making them far better at this then the typical Thureos build, the extra melee attack is also nice.) Nobody expects this, especially since I generally see fairly braindead builds being used with Massalia (IE: Nothing but Masallian Hoplites and Mercenary hunters,) however, Massalian cavalry can earn around 200 kills when used as ravenous piranhas, Light Horse can do Frenzied charge with precursor javelins, and Tarantine Flaming Javalin rear charges are good at getting units to rout far enough away from the enemies main formation for me to shatter them. This is with the "Proof of Hippeus Power" shown in this video.

Pretty much a full circle of mid tiers, with a few units that pretend to be low tiers but are actually mid tiers. Sadly, I have still mostly seen people who bring nothing but their barely-elites.

I think that the kill rate for Hoplites should be good when they are attacked in the front regardless of the unit as that was their main strength and the was the whole point of them! Why they dont get many kills from the front isnt that realistic and I am not talking about Hoplite on Hoplite battles.

The main killing Power from Hoplites came from breaking the enemy formation, then the slaughter began. There is unfortunately not a good way to represent this mass-wise in the battle, but I would have gotten more kills by charging and then hitting Phalanx. This would, however, compromise the integrity of my line so I chose not to.

This was only the case in Hoplite on Hoplite battle. In battles where the opponent was foreign the Phalanx was devastating and they took minimal losses. You played really well that game Max - really enjoyed it.

I'm having a deja vu. Zaript had a similar video where he kited oatsworn around patch 4. GG.

Finally a build that beats the heavy infantry spam. Do you feel that the enemy played the battle in a sub-optimal way? If so do you think the sword army wins if it is controlled by a better player

Engaging the hoplites with that many Oatsworn and wasting all the low tier infantry instead of trying to flank was decisive I think. Still, the infanty would have been smoked by Hippeus, so maybe flank wider with Oatsworn, Freemen and Warriors with Heavy Horse support to tie down and kill Hippeus. Even engaging the Hoplites 1 v 1 should be good for the Oathsworn, which leaves a massive amount of units free to flank. Let's say this battle was between me and Panda Warrior - I would bet against myself 10/10.

Yeah u can beat the boii ..by using mixing heavy hoplites..pikes and theoros spears ..finishing of 4 cavalry charge..besides u can't beat pikes from the front...u can be beaten from the sides and rear...cover both flanks with skirmishers..wala! U got your self a fortress
