They've shown the barbarian forts to be circular, variety looks great! Just wish they're weren't so many open routes, with there we're only 4 openings or have gates.

Yeah, that's the kind of detail I was hoping for. Awesome thing is though that with the new MOD tools announced you can make your own custom battle tiles for use in the campaign. So someone could make this a reality : )

The best part of this new kind of forts, for me, is that they funnel attacks in such a way that you have more time to play with. Time to see what kind of units are forming up, the direction of their attack, and have time to prepare for receiving them. Much more dynamic and fun than walling off indestructible walls of timber with praetorian spam..

something they should do is make the size of the fort vary based on the size of the army (cause a small army wouldn't have a huge fort)

You know that you can burn down this fort with 4-5 shots from an onager? It's possible the AI does not know about that.

Are you gonna do a campaign when Atilla is out (so basically now)? I really like your style of playing. You were the first total war youtuber I watched, with you Parthia legendary campaign. But when that series stopped (because you got slaughtered :D ), I went on to other youtubers. I would really enjoy a new campaign by you!

It does look like an improvement over the R2 forts. Those things were kind of restricted and did not allow for much maneuvering, both getting in and keeping attackers out. This one looks like you can at least set up an interior defensive line and just let the AI come right in to break upon your lines as they continue getting pounded in their flanks and rear by the ballista towers (which I'm sure that a human player would make sure his archers take out first).

How do you get forts in Total War: Attila? I have Western Roman armies in defensive mode for multiple turns along the Rhine, Danube, etc., but when they're attacked there's no fort. It's just a normal open battlefield. All I get Is a few deployable obstacles and such.

Hmm, a bit improvement but i still got shocked how CA still put forts or fortress very simple as usual. In case for the Romans for example, they shouldve put a typical unique castra design, a complex n strong one made from stone. I have this personal idea for this cause like if the barbarians have camp options why dont i put the same thing on civilized factions, only this one we can build a complex fort w/ development lvls such as 1st lvl is made from wooden palisade then after some turns we can upgrade to brick or stonewall. This is very logical idea right ? I still a bit disappointed after this. This fort is only barbarian type. CA should put more on forts design.

I agree on that. Being able to build forts up like low tier cities would be really cool, but you should not be able to take it with you as with the barbarian camps, as it is imposible to take walls with you, but the upgrades should still apply. This would make for a far more interesting campaign I think, as it would require even more strategic thinking.

I don't know how it happened historically, but isn't such a fort just a place an army builds when they stay in one place for a few weeks/months? I don't know if they would build it out of stone immediately. How I see it, it is more some sort of reinforced encampment.

  • @raymondbenjamins5884

Djosjowa I think (not 100% sure) they would build a wooden wall or something like that first, and when they would stay longer they would improve the defenses.

Where are the gates?? What is ca doing? I'm so glad I didn't buy this game yet. Thank you for making this video , this way I know 1 of 3 of my hopes are crushed lol. Plus the troops still run over the tents and with no gates the Huns will crush the hell out of most armies lol. I hope they improve this and how can rome 1 have the best forts? It's so true and it's sad. But the size is cool.

keep in mind that Romans would set up decisive positions when they stooped marching all they did with this is build walls and keep guards at the entrance. but this is just the roman plus think how long it will take to build workable defensive gates in 1 night.

Because the AI would much rather attack in conditions that play in its favor. I've dealt with this playing each game all the way back to medieval 2. And Rome 2 is a poor excuse to use, the AI in that game is on par with a brutish monkey that believes it's a good idea to just throw random armies at you in plain daylight because they want absolutely no chances at beating you. This mechanic is nothing new, it's just being taken advantage of more often by the AI who seem to be of the horde nature. Which honestly wouldn't be too far off of what such groups would do in real life. Believe me, I don't enjoy the mist/fog on the field, but it's nothing new.
