Total Solar Eclipse 2024 in Dallas, Texas [8K RAW]

0:30 Totality begins

What an incredible experience it was to witness and photograph the total solar eclipse in Dallas, TX! After days of stressing out about the cloudy weather forecast, the clouds thinned out just in time for a gorgeous viewing experience. In fact, they even added an extra element of beauty to the scene - a shimmering veil of speckled white across the dark blue daytime sky.
The varying thickness of cloud cover also allowed the camera to see both brighter and darker features of the eclipse (outer corona vs prominences) without having to do a bracketed exposure, and the thick cloud at the end of totality allowed us to continue viewing it without glasses for a few more seconds - so it was actually blessing in disguise!
(I bumped the camera at the start of totality oops, but got everything else in the video!)
Camera: Canon R5C, filmed in 8K RAW ST
Lens: Canon RF 800mm f/11
Mount: iOptron SkyGuider Pro + Leofoto G2
Filter: NiSi Solar Filter Pro 95mm
Thanks to Phil for lending me his EQ mount, and huge thanks to Shelly and her family for inviting me to Dallas and being such gracious hosts!

I drove about 120 miles each way. Traffic was terrible but I would do it again without question.

This video captures the eclipse so well. Will never forget how the clouds dissipated in Dallas right as totality hit. So amazing

I live in Dallas and the clouds broke just in time. Great view. Was in KY for the 2017 eclipse and this one was much better. Everyone should see one of these in their lifetime.
