Total Lore Overview of the Kingdom of Vlandia in Mount & Blade: Bannerlord

Ойындар

The Kingdom of Vlandia is a kingdom in Mount&Blade II: Bannerlord. It is ruled by King Derthert, and occupies the western forests and coastal plains of the Calradian continent.
The Vlandian kingdom, named after the early warlord Wilund the Bold (Valandion, in Calradic), began as a large number of barbarian tribes, who migrated into former Battanian lands during the waning period of the Calradic Empire. The Empire was at war on all sides, so it offered these new barbarian tribes land grants in exchange for mercenary work. Unfortunately, this gave Vlandian nobility a taste for Empire lands, and they united under King Osrac Iron-Arm to conquer the far west of the Empire and declare themselves an independent nation.
Militarily, the Vlandians are best known for their powerful, well-armoured heavy cavalry units who charge with couched lances. They also field well-trained crossbowmen, and their troops gain 20% more experience from each battle. They start with slightly more territory than the other factions, but are vulnerable to internal dissent.
Vlandia is the predecessor to the Kingdom of Swadia in Warband. In Warband, Vlandia's old and more expansive land is split between the Rhodoks, who rebelled and split off from Swadia, the Swadians in central Vlandia, and the Nords who were able to take a portion of northern Vlandia. Charas in the south is Sarranid territory in Warband, presumably the predecessor to the Sarranid capital of Shariz.

Yeah, they come off as a mixed breed of the franks and Norman’s. Which makes them my favorite faction to play as in the game. Tbh, my favorite historical period is the Norman conquest of England, and any chance I can get into that is a chance I will take. Awesome video.

I would be inclined to agree that that is certainly one of, if not the most, interesting historical periods in the medieval era.

Certainly in style the vlandians resemble Normans and franks but in terms of lore I think they resemble more of the goths and a mishmash of other barbarian groups that took over the western Roman Empire. Osrac Iron-Arm seems like such an obvious reference to Odoacer and his conquest of Italy in the 5th century. I don’t know why other people don’t talk about that when discussing the Vlandian’s inspirations.

More than half of their cities and noble names including clan "dey" are French, that would make them Franks and you could include Normans too

I really hope there is a total conversion mod for bannerlord that does a Norman’s vs Saxons theme, and shows William the Conqueror doing what he does.

Anyone else pronouncing Vlandia's towns and clan names with a French accent? I feel like it was meant to be.

Vlandia to mee is too much Swadia. They just feel and look like a reboot of Swardia imo. Would'ev liked more Frankish apperence of the 800s.
