The song is about gossiping and spreading rumours - that "mouth" choreo you noted is supposed to highlight that. It's about him dissing his own haters. Btw the fashion here is no joke - he wears a sports bra and lace-ended fishnet stockings here. The fact that he kills himself in the MV is also very significant of him having enough of hearing people talk shit. The lyrics also encourages people to keep pushing his buttons because he's gonna push them right back.

it kind of feels like a warning to the gossip/tabloid industry but also a warning to himself? one the hand he's saying you don't know me, you'll never know me but keep running your mouth I guess--but OTOH, he feels tremendous pressure to not fit into their preconceived ideas? "The more you try to trap me I'll go off the rails so take a good look if you want to see the end" --which sounds like he's reinventing himself but not without risk to himself. so "best take my own advice" is his reminder to himself to ignore the haters and keep being his own artist.

listen to it again, then read the take on what he is trying to say. You mentioned that some people come to your channel and give you crap about how you like everything, you actually got what Taemin was saying in the video. Like Erika Budo said about her song: " I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about my Shit." That's it in a nutshell.

i quoted what he said about this song: "which delivers a warning message to people who judge the others with prejudices." this is basically taemin's way of saying f*ck you :)

Ppl who were trying to pull him down. Some said he refers to all the hates he receives and how it can negatively affect one’s life. Sorry if my first comment sounded aggressive.

boa also appeared in taemin's idea. i mean the ¨killing me softly¨ part in taemin's idea, taemin said that it was boa's voice so i think the overlapping feminine voice that we hear is hers.

I love how the message both visually and lyrically is that its not all black and white. You can see it in the dancers wearing only black and only white while taemin wears both; and afterwards the dancers also wear both but still not really intertwined, showing the double standards that others are expressing around him. Thats where the line "best take my own advice" comes in. Just bcs someone has different opinions doesnt make them a monster.

of course this is not everyones cup of tea, this is by far taemin's riskiest move. i love his artistry, because he always makes you think a little and this one is bizarre and mysterious and sexy , has a deep meaning and it's different and not everyone is going to vibe with it and that's fine. advice is a special one ;)

btw you don't have to "feel guilty" about the song not being for you , that's totally ok. And that's the fun side of music, we have so much variety, that is like an adventure where we'll find something that suits us and something that doesn't :) thank you for the reaction , we always appreciate your sincere opinion

I agree. And it gets SO annoying when "fans" are like: "If you don't like all of their songs, you're not a real fan!" Like we are supposed to love everything like mindless sheep with no individual tastes.

I told ya, get ready for Taemin. The king once again saving kpop, I'll miss him, it hurts.

How I saw it is that, as always with Taemin, there's some sort of duality... In Criminal we had him as the victim and criminal, press your number also has duality where he has the possible vs impossible self, Danger where he splits into his black and white selves, idea with his old self and his rebirthed self etc. I personally believe the duality here is between the Taemin we see (I'd say it's the masked one in front of the piano, aka the artistic Taemin hiding behind a mask) and sort of a darker, angrier, trapped and confused Taemin (which I related to the one where it talks about how we'll never have a key to his lock.. we instantly are transported into this tiny room where he's trapped... same clothes he's wearing during the scenes with the crashed car). We also have the Taemin that is split in black and white, representing both sides in him. The lyrics seem to be him saying he'll take his own advice, and everyone else should just fuck off, stop crossing the line with their gossip and hate... their "creepy" drama as he puts it. To stop it or he'll go off the rails, in opposition to what they want. He actually crashes in the video, but comes back alive after the crash with the crucifixion pose covered in paint. The lyrics also seem to be taunting the haters by telling them they should be more creative/novel with the way they're trolling as well. That's how I personally saw it. I might be WAY off. Edited to say: thank you for the reaction and that in my eyes this is a masterpiece. An extension of Don't Call Me almost with the insertion of the piano and the fuck off vibes!

This song slapped me real hard in the face. Its okay if it wasn't your favourite Taemin song maybe because it was different from other concepts that Taemin has done and the sound is also different too but trust me it will grow on you with time.For me this is my most favourite Taemin song.

I can get your point, this song feels quite angsty and anxious in its sound, very different to taemins usual flowery style and more close to his recent thriller style. I also believe this is a continuation of his previous songs (from 2KIDS to Idea), from the similar imagery of the Christ (having said that that’s in a lot of his mvs now that I think about it). It also feels like this could’ve either directly before or after criminal where he’s trapped in the room like a prison. We see him experience a car crash, then in the remains he stands there bloody like christ, I was thinking perhaps this was his crime? Since it did look like he was the one making the crash. Then following this narrative it would mean that he probably killed his toxic lover and that could be what he means by its best to take his own advice. Or he intentionally crashed to escape from the toxic relationship to the same effect of taking his own advice .I’m not entirely sure tbh.

The way that I understood the advice lyrics was that when people criticize someone and ,they don't want to sound like they are, they preface it by saying "Just a piece of advice" or "A little word of advice for you". When Taemin says "I'll shoot the one advice" I took it to mean that he doesn't want to hear whatever they are going to say and that he's looking at that "one advice" as something tangible that he can shoot and kill off. I'm sure that after being in the industry for so long Taemin has heard many things about how he should present his image both from inside the industry and outside with the media. This song/MV to me represents how he has decided to "take his own advice" and stay true to who he is and not let what others say affect him as a person. The tone this song uses evokes a very anxious and nervous feeling which I think is really amazing as when your in the spotlight you never really know peoples true thoughts, and you are always going to be someone who is talked about and he really makes you feel like you are in his position with this song. However as much as I love the song for everything it represents it is a song that I will not be able to listen to like the rest of his music because of this fact. It is not an easy song to just listen to and it is a song that will affect your mood. I'm sure there are many other opinions and theories out there but that's just what I thought when I heard it.

I think this instrumental made it deep enough. It is one of the sickest he has, I appreciate it so much as a classical music fan.

TAEMIN represents what it is impossible to precisely define his approach to gender and role-playing in MV and choreography is so multidimensional and unpredictable that it is difficult to classify him into any specific genre.

I think this just adds to his diversity of music. You can actually play a Taemin playlist and get hit with something different continuously.

You don't have to justify yourself or feel guilty for not liking this one song, we love to see honest opinions. ^u^ Also, like, SHINee have been active for a very long time and so I'm sure that every SHAWOL has songs/comebacks that just aren't their cup of tea, I sure don't. There is so much diverse content, I can't imagine loving every single equally enthusiastically. So, what I'm trying to say is that SHAWOLs of all people get it. ^u^

Taemin told a story about how when he started off as an idol at 14 years old a vocal coach told him to just not sing because he’s bad at it and he said that this made him want to prove that person wrong even more so he went against that person’s “advice”. He explained how he practiced until exhaustion and even collapsed many times, as a teenager. Just to prove that one person wrong and follow his own advice. Taemin we t through many things in all those years as an idol and honestly the youtube caption translation is very literally, some fans did proper translations and the lyrics are way more accurate to what he wants to convey

There's a VCR of Stone Heart for his concert. It's freaking art! MV quality but not many reactors know about it.

I think it's all about pushing back against people trying to trap and corner him into certain boxes of what he is supposed to be or do. Different examples of this: -He is trapped in the tiny room representing being confined -The lyric about "destroying the torso you were chasing after" along with the scenes of him covered in grease or paint -The scenes with the black/white suit and the dancers in groups of black and white representing the push/pull of both being lead towards being a certain thing for others and pushing against that -The car crash scene I think represents also purposefully "ruining" himself in order to fuck up what people see as "the ideal him" or what they want him to be -After the car crash we see things like the crop top outfit and tattoo reveal, which I think is meant to represent being open about aspects of himself that have garnered both praise and critique (I honestly think the return to the long hair is part of this statement as well) All in all, I think the video as a whole shows the complicated relationship of trying to find your true self while being pushed towards being something for others, and how that's a really difficult process, especially for someone like Taemin who entered a public spotlight at such a young age. I think the message he is trying to send to fans and others is that he is gonna try to be himself in everything he does no matter what, including whatever the next years bring for him. These are just things that I personally took away from the video. Also, I think it's totally fine to feel disconnected from a song at first, or to not really vibe with all songs from an artist you like and admire. Thanks for your honest and open reaction!

I’m a dancer and I’ve learned a lot of his songs and I start to see patterns that Casper uses and I get hyped every time 😂 Like the way the chorus dance is often used repeatedly but the order is reversed, and then things like the very last chorus is entirely different than the rest of the song and only seen once and then is followed by a section of the main chorus again. You also see things like: This dance and Criminal both began on the ground facing forward, and this dance and IDEA both end with him center, creating a ripple effect on both sides using his backup dancers. So fun to notice stuff connecting all of his videos yet they are all so incredibly different!

It's the most experimental song he's ever done and it's growing on me. I love the piano throughout, I feel like it grounds the song and gives it a platform to dive off of. There's a franticness to the song that goes with the aggression, like someone who's had enough of having to repeat the same thing over and over to people who aren't listening. It absolutely feels like someone who's hit a breaking point and just said 'fuck it, this is who I am and I don't give a single fuck what you say or think about it.' It's been a pleasure to watch Taemin grow into himself as an artist and a person and I'm so fucking proud of him.

I’ll probably have the same reaction as you to the song if I hadn’t already heard this song in his Beyond Live concert. And then again, when I watched the delayed re-streaming of the concert. So my ears already kind of used to how different Advice sounded to his other title tracks. I honestly like this song better than IDEA. I love the instrumentation, especially all the piano.

The song along side the MV gives me anime vampire vibes. It has this creepy haunted sound to it. Lol. I love it though. That piano is literally everything This song really falls in line with his last two albums. Has this dark/toxic relationship kind of feel to it.

Advice has taken over as my top Taemin song. Apologies if others have commented already on this but the meaning of Advice is Taemin claiming his own life and self-ness. He has been told since a very young age (signed with SM at age 12) what to do, what to say, how to be, what to wear, etc., etc. He was teased for being too much like a girl in his early years with SHINee, and now haters are saying he is too old and out of date to be worth their time. This song is the expression of that journey, first being confined into a small box, and now breaking free of that box. The feminine sound and his feminine attire, coupled with his masculine moves, are telling people that he will not be confined by gender stereotypes. I shoot the one advice and must take my own advice are his rejection of everyone else saying do this do that be this way be that way, and his decision that he is going on his own path, what HE wants. Also notice the tattoos in the vid -- tattoos are very frowned upon in SK and idols (until recently) have had to cover them when in public. He's showing his tats...he is showing his full self and not making any excuses for it. VERY powerful song by Taemin when you understand that he is claiming his life for himself now.

I've only watched it once but I understood that it was about not giving a damn about what other people think, like "I'm gonna take my own advice thank you very much." I think the song is gonna grow on me a lot (I didn't particularly like criminal on my first listen, but that song is fucking brilliant), but if it's not your thing that's okay! Don't put Taemin in a box. He isn't like anyone else...that's what this song's about.

I personally really liked this song but can understand why it wouldn't hit for everyone because my understanding of it is very personal. From my viewpoint it's dark and messy and a bit frazzled from constantly having people asserting their viewpoint on what they think you should be. It feels like Taemin is saying "keep trying to control me and see what I do." It's being intentionally destructive and upsetting because that's the only way you can assert your own control. I can't claim to know how Taemin feels because I'm a very different person but I can understand that dangerous and desperate emotional state because of the shit I've been through. Might not hit the same way for everyone but that's how it came across to me.

When I heard the song at his concert for the first time I didn't really like it, but when I heard it again today I fell in love. I think I still love the choreo, visuals and dancing more than the song. But I definitely love the feeling of the whole MV a lot. I loved your honesty - I stan Taemin super hard and loved this since I heard it at his Beyond Live concert, but knew it was a huge departure for a lot of people. This is what I love about Taemin (and SM in general), is that these producers take big risks with big musical payoff. And that means they won't appeal to lots of people too, but to me that's worth it for the big payoff. Again, super happy with your honest opinion, it's so refreshing and means we can really trust you :)

I think the MV and song can grow on me. I honestly dig a lot of his songs... But "Want" will still be my favorite.

I'm not sure if you guys know but all men between the age of 18 and 28 in Korea have to enlist and do mandatory military service for at least 1 year and a half. Taemin recently announced that he was going to enlist by the end of May, so he said he wanted to drop one last song before he leaves and this is it. So after this song we won't see him for a while.

You can just not vibe with a song, even if you love an artist you shouldn't have the need to explain it; thanks for the reaction, always like to know your opinion and I hope you find a song in the bsides that you enjoy better!

I feel that it's Taemin exploring how he feels trapped as an artist and how he's going to "take his own advice" about how to handle his career and not give over to people who are pushing him to be other than he is. He's exploring all the darkness of fame, of being an artist chained to a company that exploits him for profit, etc. (And yet they let him do this--very fascinating indeed!) Notice that in most situations he is forced to cover his tattoos, but this time he refused. I think he is saying that you can see me however you want, you can even try to exploit me, but if you push me too far, I will go my own way. You will "never get the keys to [his] lock." It's a warning before he goes to serve. When he comes back, I look forward to seeing more of this side of him--I find the honesty of it refreshing.

I agree with you that this is very, very different of Taemin usual stuff. And if think to Taemin, I think of Move, Want, ect... He didn't really rap before ect... It kinda disturbs me at the begining, and I think also that Advice isn't my favorite Taemin's song at all (Sayonara Hitori, Clockwork, Criminal, Want and others still put my heart into pieces 😂), but I like it. But yeah, I didn't except that, and it's cool that Taemin explores more things ! I kinda feel guilty too, 'cause I love SHINee and this freaking cute guy so much 😂

I watched Taemin’s own reaction video - with Minho. He said the piano represents his identity. He said the MV has a storyline. He also said that the bare skin was not intended to be sexy. That still didn’t explain the song for me. The comments to your video gave me some clues, thanks a lot for that. So I guess Taemin got triggered by yet another person telling him ‘let me give you one piece of advice’. He shows all the advice/pressure he is getting with the dancers quacking like ducks. They are dressed in black or white, no nuance for them. He feels trapped in the little room. So he decides to ignore the advice and he takes off his mask. He crashes his old self with a car and emerges dirty, scary, and free. I love it that you dare to say that the song is not your favorite, even if it is my favourite MV right now.

If I understand correctly, "one advice" is how you would directly translate something they say which is probably more accurately "a piece of advice". Like someone who has advice for someone else would say "can I give you my one advice?" I've seen this translation in dramas before so I'm assuming it's a commonly said phrase that translates exactly as one advice but more likely means something bigger. I think Taemin is saying people are continuously trying to give him their one piece of advice, and it's often thinly veiled critiques and he needs to stop taking it to heart and instead take his own advice.

i felt the same way when i saw it live on Beyond Live but it really started to grow on me. Taemin and SHINee always changes their vibes and themes, we're just along for the ride

I think this song is meaningful because this is kind of his first time speaking up about the people who are judging him. Probably foreign music fans wouldn't know but he never directly spoke up something controversial. He basically tried not to speak anything on media.. Of course he did it when it's something that only fans would see but never did in public. Because even one word, one controversial picture can instantly destroy a celebrity's whole career and lose all the future work. He was always trying to avoid any kind of controversy to keep on his job as an artist and used very very indirect way to show himself. But Taemin is apparently talking to people who are framing him with their prejudice, not to do that (this is his advice basically) It's kind of extended theme of his "Pretty Boy".

Idk... I might be wrong, but I feel like this, as well as SHINee's DCM & Jonghyun's Hashtag, try to address these malicious comments coming from the media, neitzens and even obsessed / selfish sasaengs who do not really care about the damage their words cause. Anyway, I don't know... Who knows. The only thing I'm certain of is that I did enjoy this one. It's unconventional for a Taemin song, but I loved it pretty much 💕
