The instruments are the same than in an sonata of Debussy. Takemitsu, who has been influencd a lot by Debussy, made obviously the choice by purpose. But of course his writing is quite different from "the model". We retrieve these oniric pieces that Takemitsu loves to write and to offer to us. It is interesting to hear to that piece trying to gresp its architecture. It evidences a mix of rigour and fantasy, with recurring motives and modal developments which are quite typical of the oniric pieces of the author. The flute often leads to such a writing: heear 'I hear the water running', for flute and orchestra.

Indeed, Takemitsu stated this piece "Exists in the same sound world" as the Debussy Sonata, and also quotes Debussy's trio in the piece. Marvelous!

I first heard music by Toru Takemitsu maybe 5 years ago. Much of it, like this compostion, has a feeling of the quiet in a wild setting with brooks and wind stirring through trees (as the title of this work implies). I found it to be wonderful music for writing poetry. This composition is new to me, so I thank you for posting it.

Magnific !! Here, music holds the middle between material nature and intellectual nature: it can strip love of its earthly crust, or give a body to the angel according to the disposition of the listener, his chords are thoughts or caresses 🦤
