Torren Martyn - LOST TRACK ATLANTIC - Episode 2 - needessentials
Lost Track Atlantic is a four-part series that takes you on the journey of a lifetime, from the far North Atlantic to the tropical, equatorial coast of West Africa.
Follow best friends, surfer Torren Martyn and filmmaker Ishka Folkwell in a search for waves and life long memories, as they journey down the Atlantic coastline in a customised old van passing through one of the most culturally diverse regions on the planet.
Filmed in late 2019 before travel restrictions, in this four-part feature filmmaker Ishka Folkwell captures Torren’s timeless surfing against a backdrop of beautifully contrasting landscapes and countries.
In episode 2, a rumoured swell of the decade has the pair doing a mad dash across Europe towards the North African coast and some of the most incredible surf they have ever experienced. Featuring the Tishoumaren sounds of Tuareg musicians Imarhan from Algeria and Tinariwen from the Sahara region of Northern Mali (with instrumentation from Australian Warren Ellis), along with an original score by Headland, this film reminds us that although life has its highs and lows, we can always find contentment in a deep connection with nature, community and the ocean.

Torren nails the best of what surfing is. He is an original. He does his own thing and everything he puts out is gold. Not a WSL flogbag, not an Instagram hero, no bullshit 'LOOK AT ME!!!!!!' KZread antics. Just class.

Tame birds sing of freedom - wild birds fly! Your film is like that tiny hole in the prison wall, which most countries errected for us since about two years, but through that little hole, we are smelling the distant perfume, memories of the free-roaming, sun-filled life we were living before. Where me'd meet as strangers on the beach at the first rays of light , and were a universal family of all colors or nations by sunset. Where we shared everything and were rewarded manyfold. Where the Ocean, the Beach and the Sky was for everyone - always. And the welcoming arms were as open as our hearts and as wide as the smiles on our faces. We were like dancing stars, like living examples of why it's worth to live your dreams and abandon the fear in life - even if we'd die tomorrow. Where are we now? Where are we heading? Why so serious? Is obedience ever worth living? What did we trade our joy, our euphoria, our curiosity, our sparkling eyes, our youth, our time on the road or the lightness in our hearts, for?
The thumbs down must be from someone who forgot to put in their contacts or on their glasses, because that was fantastic. I thought part 1 was good, but Morrocco is on another level. Such great surfing and story telling by 2 mates just living out their dreams whilst travelling around Europe & Africa. Bring on part 3. Yeeeweeeeee🏄🤙

Very much enjoyed watching this. Reminded me of doing the same thing back in 2008 w my friend Bjorn. He picked me up in Amsterdam and we went south from there. A couple months in Portugal and a month in Morocco. Epic adventure!! Def dug the soundtrack!! thx
