Because we have other boats in our flotilla that are still using the original petrol Isotta compressor engines. As T56 was restored the decision was made to convert her to diesel. The diesel engines made it possible for the other boats to survive due the lack of spare parts and engines out there. T56 is now even faster, cheaper and easier to maintain then she was with her petrol isotta engines. The engines we have are VERY similar to Isotta, it's basically the same constrution made by CRM motori (they still construct these engines)

Loved the video, especially the side by side. The sound, the speed, on plane so solid and smooth, beautiful. I was a Sea Scout when I was a teenager. We had a PT hull remolded for a Scout boat. She was the Tiger Shark, out of Richmond, California on the San Francisco Bay. It had twin 671 diesels. It wouldn’t do 50 knots, but it would still haul ass! Weekend cruises up the Sacramento and all the sloughs. Summer cruises were down to Santa Cruz. Some of the most fun and best memories.

With you on that one! As much as I love music, I’d rather hear the sound of a good running diesel or gasoline engine over a cd or radio. Think that’s odd? The great Edward Van Halen was asked what he listened to when driving his Ferrari and his response was; the sound of that glorious hand built engine and the symphony it produces(paraphrased)!

Without diesel lorries, trains, and ships, the entire planet will stop. Only very primative tribes will continue to exist. Those that live in a fantasy world believe solar, wind, and batteries can replace diesel. But reality will show them a very undeniable truth should the diesel engines of the world stop running. If diesel lorries, alone, stop running, it would cripple the planet's populations severely. Diesel is the life's blood of the modern world. Thank you for being a part of what keeps the planet modern and functioning.

I've driven across the US a lot and I drive really fast. But the last 10 years or so, I've noticed now that an occasional big rig will pass me, which 20 years ago never happened. But boy do I love the sound of a diesel truck with the turbos going at probably full PSI as it passes me, doing probably anywhere from 85 - 95 MPH with what must be full RPMs also. If I'm in the middle of the country, slowest I'm driving is 75 MPH, but probably doing 80 MPH. If you can pass me in a big rig, that's one impressive engine you got.

I served on two US Coast Guard Island class patrol boats, both of them were powered by Paxman Valenta engines that sounded very aggressive. I wanna say they made 2800hp apiece, but had been dialed down from 4000hp in order to preserve the hull. They also smoked in cold water lol.....like a lot! My two were Sanibel and Wrangell, the 'Bel was an A class, Wrangell was a B class, and even though Wiki page says they top out at 29kts I can vouch for faster - Wrangell was getting a plant overhaul once a year while in the Northern Arabian gulf and we made 34kts with extra ammo and personnel aboard, she was a VERY fast ship, all six of the Island class patrol boats overseas were. Those engines we called them the Ferrari's of diesel engines, and I miss the sound, like a muscle car on steroids!!!

about 20+ yrs ago I had the good fortune to take a trip on a converted Admirals Barge of the U.S.S. Midway. She was powered by two detroit diesels but had been converted to a cabin cruiser configuration for southern California 'sea scouts'. We left Dana Point harbor and headed north to Newport Beach. Hearing the diesels rumbling away, it was remarked by a few on board that that was the sound of dependability..awesome experience.

Thank you so much for showing the Historical Patrol boats. Growing up I use to Love watching the 72 Foot Torpedo Retrievers on Hood Canal WA. They would be Engines Off during a Test of a New Torpedo, then fire up there big Detroit Diesel's. Just get out and move across bay to Retrieve the Test shots. Or the fun thing to watch, when a Boater would go into Range. They would give chase, with a Flashing RED beacon and a coaster SIREN blasting. Those where fun summers watching the Navy on underseas Warfare Range.

Heavily overstated. Turbos spooling? Didn't get that at any part. Impressed with the prop-wash tho''.

Though, I sexually identify as an attack helicopter, I am diesel bicurious. I get aroused when I hear lorries, ship engines, train engines, and diesel stationary engines. I know, I am an abomination. But I can not help it. I was born this way and can not longer deny it. My family disowned me when they found diesel engine diagrams under my heliport. I can not help who I am.

@@indridcold8433 Ohai there, fellow attack helicopter ;P I must agree, I am also diesel bicurious, especially when it comes to big boat diesels.
