    Vancouver is the Perfect example of what this system was meant to do and they have used it and maintained it well and greatly expanded it.They could have done this in Scarborough , but some are fixated on the Subway and never quite wanted this and it shows. Never understood why they have drivers on this system. It was never intended to need them and so they crammed the conductor/driver into the narrow rack cabinet in the corner. Vancouver could have even send used and likely better maintained trains to them when replacing the Mark 1s with Mark 5s

    There is also the stateside sibling, the Detroit People Mover. Plans for it were ambitious, but after Reagan cut federal funding, the final plan was relegated to a tiny 3 mile circuit around downtown.

    Great subway ride Johnny! I’m gonna miss the line 3 Scarborough RT once it shuts down by the fall of this year, but I’m still trying my best to make more videos of line 3 for my KZread channel. Hopefully one day we can do a collaboration of line 3 for our channels soon if possible. Hope you have a great Tuesday!

    I remembered riding the LRT a lot back in my high school years (when my old HS was still standing nearby). Loved getting to see the city above ground compared to the under ground subway.

    I go through Kennedy everyday to work. It’s a really beautiful and unique station. On the middle level there are pictures from 1985. A lot of history associated with this station.

    If they maintained the current system and got new trains or even just refurbished them they could still use it. I scratch my head why they could make it work until 2030 at least. The trackage and the cars are clearly neglected. These make way more noise than most of the Skytrain network. Boggie rattle on start? Kinda rare noise on Skytrain. Surprising amount of track joint noise. Hard to get rid of the squeel at Kennedy tho. That’s a very tight turn even with the steerable boggie these train normally have. That being said Skytrain can handle leaving Burrard to waterfront on a curve at surprising speed with minimal squeal.

    Hi, how will people be able to get from Kennedy to Scarborough Centre once the Scarborough LRT retires from regular service later in 2023? But the new underground replacement subway to Scarborough Centre an extension of Line 2 Bloor-Danforth subway is not expected to open until 2030/2031.

  • @Neville60001

    @Neville60001

    Жыл бұрын

    @AlexR, it's closing because it doesn't have any more replacement parts for it (it was intended as a demonstration system by UTDC, the company that built it, and as a result, after UTDC folded, there were no replacement parts for it, at all [Bombardier, the successor-in-interest to UDTC, didn't bother to keep the tooling, so the RT wasn't upgraded like its brother system in Vancouver.])

    If ever you take the same Mk1s on the Expo Line Skytain in Vancouver, I guarantee you will travel faster than how you travelled on Line 3. I don't know about you but I notice that the Line 3 train travels the fastest when it goes from Midland Station to Scarborough Ctr Station but practically slower throughout the majority of Line 3. Similar speed as Line 1 & Line 2. If you take the same Mk1s in Vancouver, you'll travel 80 km/h between each station throughout the entire line. Better yet, when the Skytrains reach the terminus station such as Waterfront, King George & Production Way-University, the waiting time is exactly the same as every other station in between because the Skytrains are driverless as opposed to Line 3's Kennedy & McCowan stations where you wait at the terminus station until the operator goes into the other end of train & if you love the whining sound it makes especially when it departs the station, you will hear it more clearly & better than TTC's Line 3 Mk1s. I do recommend you take the Skytrains in Vancouver, I promise that you'll love it. However, due to their age, the Mk1s in Vancouver will begin to retire starting in 2024 as 2024 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Mk1 & if I'm not mistaken the Mk1 Skytrains will retire between 2024-2027. So I do encourage you to try the Mk1 Skytrains in Vancouver while you still can.

    Wrong gauge.The original plan from about 20 years ago was to put LRT trains on it because they’d “only” need to rip out the third rail and put in overhead wires (i.e., they wouldn’t have to rip out tracks, bridges etc.). If Rob Ford hadn’t cancelled that plan the SRT would be running today with trains simiar to what we will have for Line 5 or 6
