Just got my first gas powered reel mower this morning, a 2006 GM 1000. Thanks for the detail on how to run it. Can’t wait to start mowing with it!

Edwin 2.1, next year I'll be grabbing a scarifier and possibly the lawn brush and an additional reel so I have a backup when I send the other out for sharpening. Been mowing 3 times a week with all this rain :)

Most golf courses dont use a greensmaster, we use the greensmaster flex or any other flex type of motor meaning a floating head. The reason for this wint matter to home owners with a flat yard. Golf courses mowing at and under .1000 of a inch means its extremely easy to scalp turf on humps and bumps or even flat turf at those heights. Mowing with a fixed head you need want to force the mower or push down, just let the mower do its thing just guide it. Sitting the mower down to hard on turns will scalp. No matter the mower used the result will be the same, you have people on both sides saying one thing or the other.

You found a good one and good price. I got a Allett battery,, smaller lawn.

I bought mine from my country club for $400. Mine just needed a new bed knife and a backlap. The ONLY issue I have is mine surges when not under load. I have put a brand new carb on it and tried some other things, but it still surges (or seeks). Yours looks much better than mine. I have some rust and stuff, but it cuts pretty darn well. I have taken off my transport wheels and axles. That was a game changer. I highly suggest doing that.

I’m thinking about undertaking a big landscaping project this summer to kind of eliminate the downside of the transport axles. We shall see!

You explained that well. I’m thinking about doing the reel thing. We have 14000 sf of grass KBG/ TTTF mix. If I get a reel mower, I’ll just do one section (The Main Stage ) 3500 sf. It’s a nice level area out front. I want that same mower you have. Thanks.

Awesome content! Would you recommend this mower for yards that are not quite as nice as yours? I’m just starting out and still need to level a lot of spots. I use a 7 blade manual reel now and it’s fine but would it hurt this mower ?

Still on the lookout for a GM 1000 on the used market but still coming up dry. Crossing my fingers!

I do not! It’s just a live edge. No barrier at all.

I use a tru cut presently. My hope at some point is to get a toro like yours.

those mildewed cedar fences make me think you live in greater Houston. I live in a new-ish neighborhood in Fort Bend, builder put in common Bermudagrass. What kind of turf do you have? I've been using a Fiskar's staysharp, mow 2-3X/week at about 1 5/8". I know I need to top dress my lawn, sod guys didn't do a very good job of laying the sod. Assuming I can get my lawn level, can I cut common Bermuda at 3/4"?

Just found one with the groomer installed also. Do you recommend one that’s combined?

Question: Do you scalp with your greensmaster 1000? I just got mine and each time I engage the motor with the reel on, the reel wont spin? What might I be doing wrong?

Your mower has to be moving in order for the reel to spin. It won’t spin unless it’s engaged, and you’re moving forward. Hopefully that touches on your question!

Hey I’m buying one too. Do you think it can fit in a sedan hatchback with the back seats folded down? I seen some guy pick one up in a Prius lol

A Greensmaster Flex 21, 2100, 2120, and the latest 1021 are floating head mowers that contour to undulations better than a fixed head mower seen in this video.

I think they’re good machines. They can’t cut as high (I think up to 1/2”) and they don’t require the greasing the regular Greensmasters do!

Maybe this is a dumb question...but with alot of rain coming and possibly having to apply a Plant Growth Regulator.....could you literally just mow more often and avoid applying that?

Just like anything else, the more you do it the easier it becomes. It will bully you the first couple times you use it, especially if you’ve never used a reel mower before. Now it’s not difficult at all to maneuver though.

@@toddhickey1956 if there isn’t a huge price difference I would go with the wider model. The wider your reel is, the cleaner cut you’ll get.. especially if your lawn isn’t super level.

What type of Bermuda is that ? I want that carpet look

I’m actually on your side on this one. I’ve actually read articles since releasing the video saying the same thing. I just did it because I always saw folks on Facebook Marketplace do it whenever they were trying to sell their vehicles and figured there was something to it. I was wrong 😂
