Definitively, one of the best versions that I have seen and heard of "Father Lucifer", which is and it will be one of my Tori's favorite songs. It's brilliant the way she plays, in state of grace, seems like possessed... even the touch of The Exorcist's Theme. Guauuu!!! BRAVO. Tori forever!!!
I really enjoy the foot stomping in this performance. I don't know if it was intentional, but it provided a visceral pulse-like urgency to the song at key points. Either way, Tori Amos is a rare and otherworldly creature. Respect.
Thanks! What a great vid, excellent quality. The '96 version is definitely the best arrangement of this song, one of her best of any song. I love the last bit, so beautiful.
God she is flawless. Absolutely FLAWLESS!
Gotta love the Pele-era onesy.
thank you for posting. I love this song and this version has a different bridge from the one letterman live version i usually listen to. Damn i wish I was there to see this live.
such a beautiful song!
she is something special for sure... what a beautiful performance
Yes, it is TUBULAR BELLS by Mike Oldfield and then she goes into Bronski Beat's SMALLTOWN BOY with the lines "Run away, turn away, run away...". Isn't it phenomenal??!! Really wish there were soundboard recordings of this 1996 version. A side note, apparantly TUBULAR BELLS was used in "The Exorcist" - hence why it probably surfaced in FATHER LUCIFER.
she has so many live versions of this song, but i absolutely LOVE this version. her sunny florida version is great, too...thanks hereinmyhead.
Still blows my mind❤️🌸🙏🌎
I love Tori talks :) Wish they happened for often these days!
So pretty! I love her voice.
Wow that is an amazing performance!
Yes please, that intro was a tease! 1996 Tori rocked...
The best version of this I ever heard - and I heard many versions from this tour - was from June 1996 at the Rosemont Theatre. I would give anything to have a soundboard recording of it. The audience recording was not that great and there is a video of one of the Rosemont shows - apparently there were 2 that night. I've always hoped someone filmed both. She does something very unique before going into "Tubular Bells" that just makes it the most awesome version!
and also the line "run away, turn away, run away, turn away" from Bronski Beat's "Smalltown Boy". I really wish a soundboard recording of THIS version of "Father Lucifer" from 1996 would have been released on the singles. Maybe someday.......
Thank you Hereinmyhead for this :)
love the sample of tubular bells! hotness!
go away world, only glass
Agreed. I read an interview she did on this song, so I, too, know what it means.
i love her
Greate :). Uwielbiam ją:).
This tour kicked all kinds of ass.
Genial, la manera en que Tori inserta la música de "El Exorcista" en su canción. Go away, go away, go away...
Ha, nice touch tossing Tubular Bells in there.
nothing is gonna stop me from FLOATING!!!!
it's "girl I've got a condo in Hoboken" ;)
Best version ever?
thx high five mate heh!!!x
oh no! not the jump suit
@Hereinmyhead102 Do you know what show this was?
@tenderbloodrose Yes, Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield (also known as the Exorcist's theme).
I'd like to hear YOU play the piano that way.
IT IS!!! She incorporates "Tubular Bells" into the end of this song.
When 4:20 hits..I go into dreamland. beautiful
@MrFollowingjesus Lucifer's not a metaphor it all. This song is absolutely a testimony for the devil, and that's why I love it. It challenges your preconceptions and breaks down the walls that say one thing is good and one thing is bad, and makes you think. If these cosmic figures exist, there is no good or evil, there is only light and dark and each are important. She approached Lucifer with respect because he's an entity that deserves it, and she did it unafraid, and I admire her.
I love how that person screams when she says "Jesus Christ."
@lookingfortalent2007 I believe its tubular bells?
Is that the exorcise theme at the end?
dear sir: it's a fucking metaphore
@nextmind what are you talking about? She's gorgeous.
well lets see she isn't talking about an allegiance with satan...she was on drugs when she had a "jouney" and this song came out of it...
This is so fucking cool!!
No doubt...Janet stole the wardrobe malfunction act from Tori!
LOL
Sorry for my poor editing skills i let it bleed into pretty good year. lol... I may post it sometime.
Haha! Just a tighter version of it.
Wow...you sound like a member of the Westboro Baptist Chruch...yikes. God bless you :)
Anyone knows date and place of this gig? Tks
lol..
The last part is^^
They're called fans most of the time. Or nuts.
#nothingssss gonnaa stopp mee from floatinng!! oh gosh this song still causes controversy even now haha it's about her tripping on ecstasy lol it's not evil in the slighest lol
@SowSistah It's rather humorous. All the hype about her being a preacher's daughter. Anyone who remembers a conservative church remembers all them boys trying to lay the pastor's daughter. She did them all well, too. I agree with Sow for all its worth on the youtube credits.
This woman has the rare capability of pulling emotion out of her listeners with her passion! I cry almost every time I listen to her... lady gaga doesn't do that... just sayin
@loveunderlaw ave satanas!!!!!!!
SowSistah and PopCulturePastor: Read some Carl Jung. Father Lucifer is a metaphor for the shadow self we all posses. You both, and I, hide things, secrets, desires which we don't reveal to the world. These hidden things can turn into either potential or bad things. Behind every smile, there's a hidden sadness, joy, anger, whatever. That's what the song is. Not about Satan or Lucifer. Seriously, read some Jung.
Father Cameltoe!
As for eternal future I can not speak. However given her background and upbringing I would dare say she would rather not stand before the great white throne but the judgement seat of Christ. Christians do your research into her past and family upbringing before passing judgement on her Tori I love you but you are a naughty girl of course we already knew that.
@SowSistah I find it sickening that someone so 'holy' and 'righteous' would even consider wishing death to a fellow human being by one so terrible as lucifer. And you dare to preach about 'crimes against humanity'? Maybe you should work on removing the plank from your own eye, before pointing the finger at anyone else.
lol, are you serious? nice way to make a mockery of yourself, with the least intelligent comment ever.
Funny how one comments on tori amos being 'evil' when one has tupac videos on one's channel eh hahah!! music besides 'christian' music is considered evil although i don't believe that's true so honey your just as bad as the rest of us humans hahahahahha!!!!!! p.s if you don't like tori amos don't comment on her as she is something you don't seem to understand!!lol
