You usually have to if it prompts you to. Most of the time you cant sign into Xbox Live if you dont do the mandatory update.

You can choose to have the Xbox 360 sign you in automatically to a certain gamertag or not. Its in the settings and if you need help setting that up I would be glad to show you :)

No you dont need the kinect. Its just an add-on to the Xbox 360.

i just orderd xbox 360 slim alan wake and forza3 download token bundle but, it didnt said i will get a controller... but on another store it said.. so i will get a controller?

@TORCHaz what does it mean by "download token" for Alan Wake? is it just a code you put in to install the game, or is it DLC or something?

@pacsun79 well it depends if you want to use xbox live or not so it is depending if you are going to use it then you will need it but if you are going to just play games not on the internet you wont need it.

Can I use a PC monitor only and a pair of speakers for set up? What kind of cables do I need?

Its better to keep it laying down. One its easier for it to keep cooler and two, its much easier for the drive to read your discs.

Dang I have a question did your Xbox 360 Slim ever start freezing on EVERY GAME you own mine does the first day i got it i was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO exited because my old Xbox 360 witch was the Xbox 360 Arcade was DONE FOR the disc tray button was missing on it the hard drive was shot because my brother dropped it down the stairs and so i open the box and plug it in and it freezes on me and i am like o its not that big of a deal most new 360's do that well now it freezes on EVEry one of my games OK
