@@MrAlexTechHello, why does my media show narrow on edit screen and in media pool?
It’s worth saying at the very beginning to check that “auto save” is turned on. Learned the hard way 🤦🏻. Great video ✔️

you are absolutely right. after your comment, I was trying to find it. So for others to direct where to go ... it is actually called "Live Save" => "DaVinci Resolve - Preferences - User - Project Save and Load - Project Save Settings"
Copying the Timeline as an editing stage version, that's so cool. I've been saving whole projects as different versions which makes project management feel a bit bloated. Being new to DaVinci and of average intelligence, I almost always screw something up and this looks like a much better system. Great tutorial, thanks.

Actually it's a good idea what you do, because sometimes the saved files corrupt or for whatever reason crash resolve when you next open them sometimes, making them unusable.
You've been a great help. Well done. I'll be back to see more Davinci training videos. Thanks.
Another "trick" I find very useful in making non-destructive changes to a timeline: use one timeline as a media on another timeline. Any edits made on the second timeline will not affect the first one, and any changes on the first one will be immediately visible on the second.

How do you do this?
@piranha32
10 ай бұрын
@@mustafakamal8608Create a timeline on which to make the initial edits to the clips, then create another timeline and use the first timeline as the source clip for the second one. You can use in and out points, just like with any other clip. I use this technique to clean up the soundtrack for an entire long recording (e.g. multiple presentations), which is later broken up into separate clips.
1 more tip? I know it's a detail but personally it confuses me to have timelines start at 01:00:00:00 so in the user settings I believe I changed it to 00:00:00:00 which is more intuitive to me. Very good subjects you chose for this video thanks Alex

What's even worse is closed captions / subtitles will be output starting from the 01:00:00:00 mark - so captions will not start showing until the 1-hour mark, if your video is even that long. 🤦🏽♂️ I caption all my stuff, and I found that out the hard way, and since then I set the timeline setting to always start at 00:00:00:00.
@glennparker8247

@@MarkSweeney weird. That never happens for me. How do you do your subtitles?
@MarkSweeney
3 жыл бұрын
@@glennparker8247if your timeline starts at @:00 mark and you embed the subtitle in the video as Text or CEA-608 subtitles, it works as expected, showing up like you set them. If you export the subtitles as a separate file (SRT), subtitles will all start after the 1 hour mark.
If i may add something, if you click on any of the track buttons, while holdins Shift, it will enable/disable the button for all tracks. And if you hold ALT, it will disable the button on all tracks except for this one
I've been using Resolve since version 1 and Da Vinci 2K before that, I watch this guy as i still learn things i never knew. I highly recommend to anyone looking to learn colour grading to start off with the basics using these clearly explained short clips and not being dazzled by snakes selling ridiculous training packages online.
Everything tutorial you do mate is pure class, it's all explained clear and it's the correct pace for beginners, keep up the work.
You're so helpful and clear in your explanations. Thanks so much!
Thank you Alex for the wonderful training
So much gold in here, thanks for sharing! Going to have to watch this a couple of times. 😎👊🏻
Well done--great summary. Some other topics I'd like to hear about include when to use multiple timelines & the corresponding issues (how to handle transitions between timelines and how to handle audio), and how to manage the timeline when you have a large number of tracks.
Excellent, as usual. I always pick up some little trick I didn't know about. Thanks!
Another very useful video Mr Alex👍 I've been unaware of the usefulness of multiple timelines, until now. I've been terrified of stuffing up a project I've been working on for days by trying something new, so this is fantastic stuff for us beginners. Thanks Mr Alex 🙏👍
Cheers Alex, nice video and very helpful as always
Thank you very much for the clear/clean explanations... you make my day with your videos...
Thank you for the tutorial this way exactly what I needed and more!
Thanks again for another great video. Iv'e been using Resolve for just under a year and you're my go to channel to help me work through all my stuff ups. Each video I learn something really useful! 🙌
Super helpful and fine paced. Thank you so much :)
You are probably best tutorial maker for Davinci Resolve. Simple, fast and good tutorials. I learned alot from your videos, and your transitions are brilliant, thanks!

Crap dude, that was very useful! I've been using Davinci Resolve casually for about a year and many of these I didn't know. This makes me much more comfortable with the editor! Thank you for the tips!
Nice one Alex
Thank you big man!

Thanks mate. I love watching your vids. I am a KZread newbee from Ukraine. Doing great on your tutorials, most of my favourites so far on Davinci!
Good Job!
Great vid
Wow, a lot of great tips here. I'm face-palming on a few things I've been doing the hard way... but hey, live and learn.
Best channel ever, thanks!
The tip about the auto track selector was really handy. I was very much confused why ripple delete also removed parts of clips on a different track even though I specifically selected the things i wanted to be deleted. Now that I know about the existenc of that feature, it perfectly makes sense that stuff is affected that I have not selected. E.g. select and remove an empty space between two clips also deleting parts of that length on different tracks.
Nice one Alex. I would really like to see you make a video on the PC specs you have for using Davinci Resolve as there are so many suggestions out there and getting it wrong can be both expensive and very frustrating.
Excellent vid!! Wish ripple delete would work when working with just audio tracks.
that was a great tutorial
Solid!!
thank you I love you
As always, I've learnt a new little Time Line Trick. Every day's a school day. Stay safe buddy.😀
good one
Really enjoying your tips and learning a lot. I wonder, if when you are discussing a feature, could you zoom in on that portion of the screen ? Davinci is clever - but there is so much to it, the icons etc are quite small.
Yay new vid
Good staff, thanks!

Hello Alex You make great videos and I learn a lot from them. I have a question about monitroing. How high should the HZ be with a screen. Is 60 HZ enough or do you need more? Would you put more emphasis on HZ or on resolution? Thanks for your answer and keep up the good work. Greetings CK
That multiple timeline option is just what I needed. I have a video I've been editing that I want to break into separate shorter videos to repurpose some of the content. With multiple timelines I'm guessing I could make the full video edit, and the multiple separated clip videos all on their own timelines and then export each from the project as I need. If that works, that will save a whole lot of time.

This is exactly what I am researching this topic for. I think I have it all down. But I just wanted to make sure that if I do edits in any of the time lines I wouldn't have to worry about those edits reflecting on another timeline. How has this worked out for you?
Nice basic stuff- still learned something! :-)
Hey alex! Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge, it has helped me a lot. Im wondering if you can change my timeline resolution in the same project. Imagine I have some vertical and some horizontal content that I want to have in different timelines, can one do that? Thx again
Thanks yo, never knew how to use timelines properly, would have saved me from making a bunch of different saved files
Enjoyed all your videos!!! I'm working on a MacBook pro at my work w/DR and also at home with my laptop MacBook pro and DR. My magic mouse scrolls my timeline sideways when I sideswipe and scrolls up & down on the timeline when I swipe up & down, and also zooms my screen and moves it left & right by using cmd & shift and opt & shift, I love that. Now at home it does not do that using the same magic mouse... do you happened to know why that is?
THX! ;)
Great basic video 👍 Mark. Could you do the same going through the other pages and features and options also. I believe it will help out many people new with DR. If u already done it, can u point me to it. I like your to the point style. Cheers!
great
Hello. I loved your videos, thank you so much for making editing so easy. Can you please make a map animation for travel video in davinci-16
10:40 thanks, i was just looking for this option 😅👍
Great video! How are you doing the undo?
Hi Alex, great work as always. Curious about Camtasia which doesn’t allow recording at 24 FPS (25 is the lowest) what frame rate do you film in and how do you blend with Camtasia being at a different rate?
Great Davinci tips! Is there a way to speed up the "playback speed" of the entire timeline, not just for a clip? Just for speedy listening and viewing while editing, not for rendering purposes.
Hi Alex, love your stuff, can I create a new Timeline from selected clips and keep the edits? Seems to create one big new clip. I film underwater wildlife and want to keep them separate?
I'm curious. In Premiere Pro CC you can select a frame of video that can be used as the timeline static thumbnail. Is there a way to seclect a frame that will stand at the head of the timeline, but also will show in the Home Page? I'm watching this video again for a second time because the information you shared is so important. Thanks!
Excellent! Thanks! I couldn't rename the audio 1 or 2 tracks. Wasn't able to hover over the name to click and change like in the video track. Anyone able to help? Thanks!
Hi, Is there any way to find the clips I used in specific projects or in a timeline?
Hey Alex, I have problems with transitions between timelines. I wanna bring all my project chapters into separate timelines for sake of organization but wondering how to get my transitions properly ddited as different music, footage etc overlays partly and needs proper alignment and workflow. What am I missing here?
