Thank you so much! You've saved my sanity! I haven't seen this reason given in any other video - most of them claim it's to do with thread tension or an incorrectly threaded machine. To the people who've commented here saying they don't see the solution, moving the needle to its highest position should automatically pull the thread across in the bobbin case. My machine makes a little clunking noise when the needle reaches the top. ☺

You helped me solve a problem unrelated to this video. I was trying to find out how the thread was supposed to be coming off of the bobbin after threading. I noticed in the video your bobbin thread was coming over the top of the bobbin and mine was coming off on the right side of the bobbin (if any of this makes sense, LOL. Anyway I rethreaded the bobbin making sure it came off over the bobbin and my stitch was perfect. Thank you for the unintentional help.

To avoid this if your machine has need me up/down button use it. If not then key off the take up lever and not the needle. The needle will travel up and then drop ever so slightly as the takeup lever needs to hit its peak. Ps never turn you hand wheel backwards.

Does this have anything with the take up lever? I had the same issue, so does that mean if the take up lever is at the highest position, it also makes it rotated to the 12 to 3 position?

  • @HacksbyDad

I would think so, but I’m not exactly sure. I just peek into the bobbin casing to see where the top thread is and use the hand wheel to place it in the 12 to 3 position. No snags or tangles since I started doing this. 😎

When you stop sewing, manually adjust the machine for your arm to be at the very top position, then remove the fabric. Also, when you start to sew, manually adjust so you start with your needle in the fabric. Is your needle right justified? I was told to keep it center justified unless doing a zipper. Just an observation.

make sure when inserting the bobbin that you are inserting the bobbin in a P shape and not a 9 shape: meaning the thread should come off to the left. once i its inserted into the case, you need to run the thread through the guide. the guide in in the bobbin case, its a little notch on the left side. then once you being to turn the knob, the top thread should sweep over and catch the bobbin thread, continue to turn slowly and then grab the loop, or "catch the fish" and now both threads are prepared to sew.
