    Our first experience with mezze was even more amazing. We got all the sides that we mention in this episode PLUS 20 courses of one piece apiece of a wide variety of meats served in a myriad of styles. And then still French fries at the end. When we were stuffed full and couldn't eat anything more and told the waiter we were done, they then brought out a large fruit plate for dessert! It was incredible! We barely could understand what we were eating, but it all was delicious. Unfortunately, we took that as a series of photos versus videos. By the time we had mezze for lunch, we felt like old pros! Thank you so much for watching! -Judy

    I love your comment: "It did give us time to exhale after Egypt." We are now in Montenegro and feel exactly the same way after having left Istanbul. Even if you're keeping busy, it's nice to stay in a place where the pace of life moves a bit more slowly. Love the videos. Thanks for sharing the costs. I didn't realize how affordable Cyprus could be in the off season.

    We can't wait to visit Istanbul (and Montenegro), but it's helpful to hear that it's someplace that may need to be buffered afterwards! And yes, we want to tour a country or a city, but there has to be a balance, since as you know, being a KZreadr can be very time consuming! And yes, Cyprus was very reasonable! It wasn't a great place if you had to ship something there, however. Because it's an island, Amazon and other online vendors were prohibitively expensive. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! -Judy

    Very well done ! I feel that your videos have the right mix -- places of interest, history, weather, transport, food, prices …. Just wondering whether did you find 1 month to be too long to stay here? I feel that this may be a problem of slow travel - in a small place in off season, it may start to get a bit boring and perhaps even lonely ? But both of you were probably busy also doing your video and writing your blog during that 1 month too :)

    Thank you so much for watching! Do you find it surprising that we could have stayed another week or so?! Our time in Egypt was pretty hectic with so many tours and experiences, so when we got to Cyprus, we had a ton of KZread stuff to take care of, including updating our website and a lot of editing and blogging! We loved our morning cappuccinos down at the harbor, and that was really special. But we would have liked to go back to Old Town Paphos, we had a plan to visit Nicosia and would have also liked to see Hilarion Castle. And as it was warming up, possibly spending some time on the actual beaches might also have been nice, too. But our challenge right now is that we have Airbnbs booked up through mid November, so we don't have a lot of flexibility to change our plans-it's sometimes possible with places that give us more time to adjust plans, but we also have trains and planes, which are expensive to change. You have no idea how much it helps us to know whether we are getting the "mix" right on our videos, so thank you so much for your feedback. We're always very happy to answer any of your questions! -Judy

  • @FindingGinaMarie

    @FindingGinaMarie

    6 ай бұрын

    Hi Dawn, It depends on what you want to do and when you will be there during the month. November's high is 72° and the low is 54° with 5 days of rainfall. If you were to head there for say Thanksgiving at the end of the month, the temperatures would be even lower (lows closer to 49° and a high of 65°). Our weather was along those lines, especially during the first half of our time there. There are things to do, but beach activities would not be in the cards (they weren't for us, either). Daytime temperatures aren't bad, so you can visit Old Town and all the archeological sites. You should be able to sit like we did outside near the promenade as well. There are a lot of interesting, non-beach activities. You are wrong. Kato Paphos is Old Paphos, where it was originally settled. Neo (New) Paphos is what you are wrongly referring to as ‘Old Paphos’. I been staying there since 1979, so I think I know which is which. You should drink Cyprus Coffee, which if you went to the Turkish side, they just call ’Coffee’. It’s not pronounced ‘Paff ose’ It is ‘Paff oss’ and a Meze is not ‘metze’, it is ‘mezzay’ That is a Turkish bath, not a Roman Bath in Neo Paphos. October and November are also the best times to go to Paphos to avoid the heat. The sea is till very warm in November.

  • @FindingGinaMarie

    @FindingGinaMarie

    You are misconstruing what we are saying. Go ahead and do directions from Palaepaphos, Old Town Paphos to Kato, Paphos, and you'll see that Kato is actually the new part of Paphos. We are speaking about OLD TOWN versus NEW TOWN, not the ancient origins of Paphos. Thanks for the clarifications about pronunciations. We did check them, but clearly we need to brush up on our pronunciations. You are correct about that being a Turkish bath, which is different than the Roman ruins we saw. We definitely conflated the two. It's good to know that the fall is a great time to visit as well. It's definitely a place that we would like to visit and explore in more detail. -Judy

  • @Rickwardful

    @Rickwardful

    26 күн бұрын

    @@FindingGinaMarie Yes, definitely the Fall is a good time to go to Cyprus. But I can absolutely assure you the Kata Paphos is the Old Paphos and the up the hill is Neo Paphos the most recent bit. When you next go back, Go to Myrra Tavern in Neo Paphos and you will seen a very large photo on the wall of Kato Paphos taken 1979 of the Port and Castle. The only other building there, appart from the antiquities was the Almyra Hotel, which was then called Paphos Beach Hotel. Myrra Tavern owner’s used to have the only restaurant at the Harbour. They have their own farm and vineyard and this is where all the locals go to these days when they go out for something to eat. The food there is unbeatable! Just about all you see at Kato Pahos today has been built since then. Which is what confuses everybody into thinking Kato Paphos is the new Paphos. It is the other way round. So I know what you are saying and it seems logical to think that, but in fact , rather strangely, it is the other way round. The road that now goes past The Tombs of the Kings, ended at the Tombs of the Kings. Many of us still refer to that road as the New road to Coral Bay. It didn’t be even have a hard surface for several years. Anyway, glad you enjoyed ‘both’ Paphos’s. Next time you go, go to the Coral Beach Hotel in November and a whole group of about 20 of us regular repeaters will see you there!

    "There's Paphos Cyprus Old Town, also known as Ktima and Kato Paphos, which is where we stayed. The Old Town is located slightly inland from Kato Paphos. The old town is not really a tourist area so you won't find hotels there." Also, "Paphos Archaeological Park (also Kato Pafos Archaeological Park) contains the major part of the important ancient Greek and Roman city and is located in Paphos, southwest Cyprus. The park, still under excavation, is within the Nea Pafos ("New Paphos") section of the coastal city." These are quotes from the internet. This is what we are reading and understanding everywhere, so if we still are being dense, you'll have to point us to a source so we can understand more clearly. We appreciate all your recommendations and will definitely add them to our list because we'd love to visit again. Cyprus remains one of the few remaining countries in Europe that's not Schengen, so it's a great place when we need to be out for 90 days. -Judy

    @@FindingGinaMarie You’ve been doing some research, but unfortunately anybody can write any nonsense these days that others will believe. What you refer to as the Old town, which is the ‘up the hill bit’ was the European city of Culture just a few years ago. So is definitely a tourist area. As I say, I have known Paphos very well for 55 years now and I think I know pretty well, which is the real new and old Paphos. Ask any old Cypriot and they’ll tell you the same.

    Thanks for watching and for your comment. Actually, Cyprus's connection to Great Britain is more complicated/nuanced. In 1878 it was only a British protectorate, from 1914 to 1925 it operated as a unilaterally annexed military occupation (when the Ottoman Empire entered WW I), and from 1925 to 1960 as a Crown colony. -Judy
