Why is Cyprus the best English-speaking country to retire?

Learn firsthand why Cyprus is the best English-speaking country to retire in. Meet Jack. He retired in 2022 after 35 years of working in the chemical industry in various countries, and together with his wife, he moved to Cyprus. Jack has bought an apartment in a new development in Paphos and is now waiting for the construction to be completed. My colleague Anastasia from Cyprus Sotheby's International Realty will show us the Elysia Park gated community where Jack and his wife rent an apartment while waiting for their new home.

I am actually considering starting to configure myself to do just that, in London it's the third day, not sunny,, but not raining with raging winds since November 2023. And I am saying November because I was in Italy until then. 🤣

Depends, here in Larnaca it went up to 44 degrees Celsius and 37 - 39 seemed more the norm for certain time periods. I think it is still no big problem though, since there is often a nice wind, that makes it very bearable. And it is generally not a good idea to go outside between morning and evening during the peak hot months, with an UV index of 11 -12. At least if you are young and no fan of rapid skin aging, or old and have cardio vascular issues. The mornings and evenings are perfect, though. So you can just do nice things and schedule your work for the mid of the day when you are inside.

The cypriot way of life is fast fading because of these type of immigrants. Why on earth is a gated community required. It's only a decade ago that doors were left open.

Things are changing. Cyprus is getting bigger and more crowded, and there are problems with the neighbours. Of course, it will never be the same again, and this also impacts security. But it is still a lovely and pretty safe place compared to many other places in the world and Europe.

Lived in Peyia from 1999-2010 came back to the UK because the whole nature of Cyprus living change when they joined the EU. Then the Euro was introduced and prices started to rise and quality started to fall. Have visited since 2010 on many occasions and my opinion has not changed.

Stay in the UK then.Have you seen the state of the UK,today?I left the UK 23 years ago and have not regretted it for a moment. My choice was Larnaca Which is taking off now.Have a beautiful home near the beach and it's very central. My wish and hope is that there is a peace settlement on the island. If that happens Cyprus will be an absolute paradise.

I bought in Ayia Napa in 1991 and loved living there. I sold and moved out because of government corruption. It has got to a point where I expect Vladimir Putin to move in soon as he controls the government and will avoid extradiition to anywhere.

One thing I really wish for is that more waste would go into the trash cans - and fewer kittens... Animal abuse and treatment is a huge issue here - to be fair, as in many southern European countries. And that parts of the island look like a big waste landfill. Sounds hard, but that is what it is. I think it is slowly getting better, though. There is much room for improvement, when it comes to speed. But as the Cypriots say “siga siga” = “slowly slowly”. You have to adapt to where you are. But everyone can make an impact, and it can be very rewarding if you keep a positive attitude. No country is perfect.
