For the bezels part, you forgot to mention you have to make some adjustments under video -> scaling then set aspect ratio to custom, custom aspect ratio (y position) to 0 and custom aspect ratio (height) to 426. If you don't do it the games looks cropped on the bottom

I've ordered my unit with only the 64Gb operating system sd card, however it arrived with not one, or two but 3 256GB Kioxia branded sd cards loose in the box where the screen protector and manual are placed. All loaded up with the same rom sets. I don't know who messed up over at Anbernic but I'm completely formatting these cards and using them for future handhelds 😂

I personally don't apply a shader for smooth frames but use bilinear filtering and a normal4x filter on top. For fast-forward I use 3x and deactivate frame skip. Plays like a charm with these settings.

Press B to go to the main menu, select settings --> video --> scaling --> enable bilinear filtering. Press B and select video filter --> normal4x. Press B twice to come back to the main menu --> select quick menu --> overrides --> save core overrides. Done 👍

I recommend Amazon basics 64gb MICRO SD cards, you can get a 2 pack really cheaply. I have used these in all my Anbernic devices for a couple of years now with no issues, format to FAT32 and you are good to go. I only use the stock cards to tinker with custom firmware. Happy retro gaming everyone!

Great tips! Would love to see similar videos related to CFW. I’m currently using Knuli, and it can be tough to figure out how everything works!

I found a couple of tips on reddit. 1. Disable bilinear filtering in Drastic by copying over a drastic config file which has it disabled. Makes it sharp pixels instead of a blurry mess in DS games. Had to copy to root and then copy over using the file explorer on the console the opposite of your shader trick. I tried editing the file but couldn't find the code they mentioned so just the used file the guy hosted. Make sure to backup default file in case. (search rg35xx disable drastic bilinear filter) 2. Enable a 2nd shader in addition to shimmering shader. Enable 2 passes and use the Misc/Image Adjustment shader. Apply config, fhen adjust parameter to have 1.30 Saturation. Save core override and do for each core. Makes the SP colors pop.

Is there a difference in zeroing out the preset shader scanline effect and installing that file? If not wouldn't it be easier to just select the scanline shadder and save it without the scalines showing?

13:21 Also, if the fast-forwarding on, say, snes9x, isn't as FAST as you want, tough luck, it's bottlenecked by the CPU. Changing the fast forward rate won't make it faster.

I noticed that when following the steps for the shaders and then trying to put the GBA SP overlay back on for that system, that the overlay cuts off a significant portion of the bottom screen edge. 007 is a good example of a game where the third line of text is completely cut off. Did I mess something up while changing things, or does the overlay just cut off some screen all the time and most just don't mind it?

I've just done the same. Hope I can find a fix somewhere. I can see some empty space at the top of the screen; so it looks like the image just needs moving up vertically a bit. If you don't do it the games looks cropped on the bottom". I accidentally set the x ratio to 426, not seeing a "height" one, and totally ruined it. But thankfully you can press the start button from the scaling menu to set everything back to default, and when I did that, the screen had moved up and the bezel was no longer blocking so much on the bottom. I saved core overrides afterwards and reloaded a game, seemed to work fine.

Also, if you're still having severe, sustained framepacing issues no matter what configs you've changed (Good test would be with the 240p test suite ROMs), my guess is the power governor isn't working right, so try hitting the power button to sleep and hitting it again to resume. Also your gameplay will never look optimally sharp from HDMI out, at least with the current firmware, because RetroArch doesn't actually output native resolution of the HDMI frame. It's stretched with filter applied. Batocera/Knulli is the only solution that has native 1080p out right now.

With this custom firmware, can i still play it on the tv via hdmi?

Hey Joey what handhelds would you recommend for moonlight streaming? The 2 requirements I have are analog triggers and a minimum screen size of 5.5 inches but preferably bigger. I don’t care as much about high end emulation as I only plan to go up to ps1 for the most part and I can just stream the higher end systems anyway. I found a deal for an open box Logitech G cloud on Best Buy’s website for $230 shipped and was considering that. I wonder if you have any other suggestions.

G Cloud is absolutely fantastic. Shop around, have seen them for as low as $150 (bought two at this price) through marketplaces, $230 is a bit high, but that device is the best for streaming.

Thank you for these tips. One thing I am having trouble with though is that I have flashed the firmware to a 256gb sd card, so its all running off that one card but the system is still showing it as a 64gb card. I went to manage it using macrorit and also minitool to extend the volume/partition/ tried all kinds of ways but it just wont extend it to the rest of the space on the sd. I know that anbernic didn't have this feature on their old stock os but I assumed they updated this and fixed it and would have put it out on the sp? I was hoping there was a little app option just to extend the volume..

@@dev1lacht I just ended up buying a 64gb card and using the 256gb one for roms. Messing about with the 256gb one for some reason removing partitions, formatting with gui format etc.. it made the 256gb not be recognised in the anbernic.. So I had to use rufus to format it completely for it to work again.

You can check out my 35xx setup guide, I show it there, but it's as simple as going into the Roms folder, and then inside each System folder and deleting the games.

Is there any way for the gba overlay not to cut off content of the screen? On games like Pokemon Esmerald for example, text box get cut off a bit and content overall get cut off by ghe overlay.

Same problem with me. After i turned off the overlays and tried re-enabling the gba one…the overlay is now cutting off the game image. Honestly some of these changes have caused so many issues with my video outputs / screen image sizing that I’m thinking of flashing back to factory

The disable led light is for one session. The next time you turn it on its back to being on again.

In game open the RetroArch quicker menu and go down to controls, un map fast forward form r2 and save it as an override. Once you do that you'll be able to use m+r2 to toggle fast forward.

Personally I think the sleep mode is good enough. Im never putting the device in sleep for more than an hour or two, at that point I would just shut it down.

Genuine questin, please dont insult me... Ehat is it that's actually wrong with the stock ROMs? The set is not complete, granted, and also I dont use reteoachievements (fir which possibky these are not the correct ones), but aside for these 2 points... What is it that actually wrong? I am yet to find a rom that doesn't work among the ones preinstalled on my rg35xx plus. In addition, sure the stock sd card would not be the best quality, but again... It dies work since a couple of months (can't say of course what will happen in the future, but ao far so good). Sometimes i get the impression that "stock roms are bad", "stock sd will fail after half hour", "stoxk os is garbage" and so forth, are just kind of urban legends and nobody has really tried them, everybody says "changed them right away!" ... Starting to think it's more "changed them withouth even knowing or trying if they work"

I explain it in the video. You don't have to agree, I've been doing this long enough to see the problems stock roms cause, and my Reddit profile history is full of helping people replace stock roms because of the multitude of issues with them. Most of us like saving in Pokemon (in-game) and don't want to risk our saves. But there's so many weird issues with the roms. I can guarantee you this isn't urban legend nonsense.

Ill never understand the bezels. Why would I want to clutter my screen with useless static images when I could have a minimalist screen with only the game on there. Even the GBA bezels. It just seems like something that'll damage the screen overtime too since its just setting the pixels to a static image for however long you play. In general it seems like a bad idea IMO.

Should have been stated up front that this is for people running stock os. First tip should have been install muOS.

At 0:28 you show Super Mario World footage and say there is frame pacing issues. How can you tell? It looked basically the same to me after you fixed it.

Btw you don't have to save core overrides. That's for other core settings. Yeah retroarch is still a mess despite the big improvements.

Do you know how to set up the Rom language? For example i have an european pokemon rom and want it to start the Rom in german instead of english. Can‘t find it in the RA sertings

How do you enable analog controls? Like where is the setting. There's definitely alot of learning curve with this. Retroarch is hardcore. It does not even have detail description or help menu. Also everyone says that you can click the power button for joy stick. But that does nothing for me. I'm trying to play n64, I have tried all 4 analog stick options. I've looked under hotkeys, theres nothing I can find. That shows analog controls. I was hoping I just had to enable it under hotkeys and set it to power button. Any help be great. It be nice if they made software dedicated for these devices. They show so much nonsense and even pc settings. Is there a detailed video on how to set up rg35xxsp or detailed retroarch videos with everything explained? No trolls please, genuinely trying to get help. I've emulated on my pc, tablet, phone. But this is just difficult to grasp everything.

It won't let me use d pad in it. When I hold the power button, it shuts or puts it in sleep mode. I am using stock. Do I need to re install or use a different OS? It's just a push, not hold, but if that doesn't work you can try a reflash. Yes you can learn RetroArch, just watch some videos on it, but this isn't a device for N64 either way.

@JoeysRetroHandhelds Yeah, that did not work. I know it's meant for more not joystick things. But everyone said you could emulate a joystick. I got n64 running at 60fps. I'll try a reflash, thank you for the kindness and fast replies. I apologize if I sounded rude in anyway. I just can't wrap some of this stuff around my goldfish brain lol. I did do a month of research before buying. That's why I knew I was sold. I love clamshells and the bonus of n64 and some psp interested me. It even says it in the manual under supported devices. Thanks again, I'll watch some videos on Retroarch and see what I can do. I've just got to pace my self.
