Platinum Avohkii is actually single the most expensive lego brick ever made. And lego still didn't want to create bionicle set to celebrate 90th lego anniversary :/ Also what's happening on the bionicle masks market is crazy, my whole collection increased value from around 500$ in 2017 to about 6000-7000$ now. Crazy.

The pandemic drove the prices of almost every collectible-oriented hobby through the roof. I saw similar price explosions in the old LOTR trading card game by Decipher, with the prices of some cards jumping tenfold. Within the Bionicle subset, what happened to the Protodermic Silver Nuva masks was exceptionally weird. I think one particular Bricklink seller just picked a point in time where very few were listed at all, spiked his prices by a massive amount, and then the community at large just started treating that as their new value. I bought all mine for 30-40 bucks apiece the year before that happened, and then all of a sudden they were worth 150-300 each.

Yeah I became a veteran in 2021, finally had the money to collect some old goodies and see the prices for Bonk masks are through the roof. They've always stayed clear of my grasp 😪

I’m still amazed by the fact that I got both a white Huna and a brown Komau in the same random piece lot a few years ago.

Rarest mask I own is the movie Krahkaan. Although I just use it on my 2003 Makuta really. I dont view it from the collector POV more of that it's just a more accurate mask

The clear Tahu mask reminded me of the transparent orange one of the same mask that was released. I got it and used it on a MOC I called Vulcan. My idea for Vulcan was that he was a Skakdi fused by Makuta (Gen 2) with a toa of fire as an attempt to create a powerful weapon. I used a lot of volcanic elements and the head was one of the dark metallic Vezon heads that came with Maxilos. The mask was attached to the stop of his spine to reflect the toa of fire he’d been fused with

I've got a prototype Gelu helmet where the mold didn't completely fill the mask. It's got a nice purple/black sparkly stuff mix.

It was a gift I received from BZPower staff, back when they rescued a bunch of prototypes from destruction via their former staff member Kelly, who is (was?) working for The LEGO Group. Most likely I would give it away to a close friend in the Bionicle community if I had no way to keep it safe.

@@macdaddy2344 The point is, it's a neat collectible that not many people even know exists. BZPower gave away a number of interesting prototype masks and helmets like this one. Mine just happens to be a little more unique because the mold was not quite injected enough to fill the entire face covering.

Someone with a furnace could make good money selling reproductions of the silver and gold masks. Gold may be hard to sell, but a krana is only like $10 in silver weight so that could be an easy one to pour and sell

@@justapyro2154 if you want to save a bit of money, lead-free pewter would probably work for a prototype. If you have an Etsy or eBay store I'd be very interested in seeing your creations

Great list Chris! I will say I think the 3rd slot should belong to the SSKK, but overall it's a great list, and I'm happy to say I own or have owned everything on the list.

I miraculously got two prototype Kakama masks in an old Bionicle lot I bought a little while ago. I sold off one of them, and the other one is now the star of my little collection.

Oh my god! I have a black Noble Matatu! It's been sitting on display with my Onua Mata for like 7 years now! I had no idea it was that expensive! I also have a white Noble Ruru

I genuinely am sad that they didn't do more masks in metal for promotion. I get why they didn't metal is far more expensive than plastic, but it is definitely fitting at least that its those two. They are two of the most iconic masks of Bionicle. Also on the question of if I own any misprints or rare masks I need to go look again what all i have. I stored them all safely away because I don't have good space for display, and its been a bit since I dug them back out.

It wouldn't be that much more expensive in terms of material cost if they wanted to use something basic like aluminium, they could even anodise it to get different colours, but the biggest cost would be the moulds. A metal casting mould that is reusable is difficult to make, and something like lost wax or lost PLA means moulding an intermediate part, forming a sand mould around that part, melting the wax or plastic away and replacing it with metal before finally destroying the sand mould to get the raw part. After that you then cut away the excess from the spout and finish the part with some laborious polishing.

The 3D printer community should start making custom bionicles masks … would be interesting to see the creativity of this community

Already happening, just look at Thangs, Thingiverse, and Shapeways. Personally I like the layered look because it A) shows it isn't official, and B) looks cyberpunk af.

i cry when i see his Bionicle collection just a mix of happiness to see a cared for set and sadness that i cant see it in person

For me, the Hau mask is and forever will be the face of Bionicle. Thus, to see/own it in pure gold must be extraordinary.

The rarest Lego thing I own is the gold Ignika, but even that beauty pales in comparison to some of these. Geez.

I used to have the transparent light blue cowcow, back in 2009. But I donated it to the Goodwill. I should have kept it, so that it would go up in value.

So I have an SDCC Skull Scorpio mask, and it’s one of my favorite masks I own because I won it from answering trivia in Makutafest 2016. Such a good memory tied to a dope mask makes it 👌👌 for me

Here's some more: the masks that came with Bionicle comics (infected Hau Nuva, Kanohi Vahi/mask of time and whatever came with them).

Shit I had that yellow mask… they had a “Bionicle Club” at a local toy store with grab bags for masks. Crazy

The rarest Bionicle piece I own is a misprint bohrok kal windshield. Are the ruru/matatu mata colors actually misprints? They seem fairly common back in the day. My theory for the translucent light blue kaukau is it being Hahli’s. Hahli’s promotional mctoran art has her wearing the mask. Hahli also in a way replaced Takua in the later Mata Nui Island years.

Hahli's mask in old promo art matches Gali's where the CGI model looks lighter than in reality. The lighter blue Kaukau was the color originally meant for Kopaka's clear Kaukau, since light blue matches him (his eye color), corresponding to Pohatu's trans yellow Kaukau which was replaced with trans neon orange. The promo art in the video proves this.

I had the transparent green lewa mask as a kid, that was the rarest one I ever had, even then. it drew me in further, haven't gotten any more but the love for Bionicle will never go

I got my trans neon-green Skull Skorpio mask for only 179 € (=196,50 $) and the trans clear Mask of Fire for 49 € (=53,79 $) last year, without packaging but in mint condition. After seeing this video and knowing how much they cost normally I guess I was pretty lucky 😀

I seen on bricklink someone bought a white noble huna for 3704.25us dollars.

The only masks that I own that even remotely have a value are the Irnakk mask and the Toa Likhan mask from the Turaga Likhan set from Duracel.

I had a transparent yellow Gali mask as a kid , thought it was an ugly and garbage mistake mask at the time. I traded it with a friend at school for a white hau mask. Boy am I kicking myself now since i got back into collecting!

Fun fact: Just2good got one of those Trans-Clear G2 Tahu masks from eBay for 40$ around 2017... Although he isn't a Bionicle fan, he definitely made a good choice, lol 😂

I got the glow in the dark" light mask and poisened tahu mask from the comics like 18-20years

ive got a pearl gold vizorak body not sure if its rare but I haven't seen a lot of people talk about it

Alright, so... from my knowledge, I've only had 2 rare masks. Misprint Kraakhan with 5 holes instead of 4 or 6, and the trans-neon orange Kaukau. I ended up selling the Kraakhan, since.. well, I didn't really care, I'd rather have a normal Kraakhan, but I still have my trans-orange Kaukau.

Just stares at my yellow and light blue Kaukau masks...

I think the rarest mask I got is the pearl gold Kraahkan that came in one of the system sets as a misprint in the uk if I remember correctly. Someone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong

I actually have a suspicion for the Prototype Kaukaus, I think that they may have been prototypes for the golden and silver versions of the mask. Them showing up on the promotional display could have been a mistake on Lego’s part

As a kid I remember I joined a contest and won a small metal bionicle mask. I still have today. I wonder how much it would cost 🤔

Yeah, you tell me. I remember when WMKKs were sold for $200-250, VMKK and GPKK for $400-600 and SSKK for $1000-2000. What really angers me tho is that when... Well, for example that WMKK when it went for $200 back then, it seemed expensive to me, as I was just a teen with no money. Now? I would gladly pay $200 for it. But no, the only one for sale is from Bionicle Universe who has it for $2000, which is seriously an overkill, I really doubt anyone will buy it.

What about metru red Huna and metru blue Matatu? They sxist too and should stand with yellow Huna on the list. Greetings

Is it normal that the Flat Dark Gold Kraahkan is sometimes darker than another Flat Dark Gold Kraahkan and other same colored pieces?(I have other Dark Gold parts from the Visorak Battleram and still 1 of the 2 Flat Dark Gold Kraahkans is darker and the other is the same color as the Visorak Battleram parts)

Recently just added a wmkk to my collection

i remember getting the light blue Kaukau from a bulk order of regular kaukau's... ngl i was kinda mad cause i needed 10 kaukau's for a moc, and it looked so off at the time when i placed them in, but i couldnt be mad cause it was a rare missprint lol EDIT : I literally paused at the start of the Transparent light blue kaukau.. i spat out my drink... WHAT?! HOLY CRAP THE PRICE FOR THIS.... I FEEL SO SORRY TO WHOEVER GAVE ME THIS !! QWQ
