My favorite Boss Battle is the Masked Man. *SPOILER ALERT TO MOTHER 3* Oh, Claus. Claus, Claus, Claus, you poor child. Claus's Redemption, as I like to call the last fight, is the only time I've ever cried because of a video game. Lucas went through hell all through out the game, only to reach the end and discover his brother was simply a puppet under the enemies' command. And the fight itself is soooooooo depressing! Lucas remembers his brother's scent, Hinawa tries to intervene, Claus commits sucide, and Flint and Lucas are left alone to repair the emotional damage that will never heal. It's more so the build up and the ending that make this one of my favorite boss, rather than the actual battle.

I gotta agree with Lou being up there. I dug my heels in SO hard to get through that song and when I finally, FINALLY did it I actually whooped and hollered and gave my friend who was with me at the time a huge high five, and were were both completely stoked and amped that I finally did it. Man, I'd actually forgotten about that... Thanks for making me remember the good times Jirard, even if it was hell to take down Lou.

I agree completely, and was pleasantly surprised to see it here and having me go "Oh yeah!" I was done with Guitar Hero after this, I was never great at them and this one took a lot out of me but I was proud to get it done.

One of my favorites it's Ornstein and Smough fight, from Dark Souls. This fight is just epic! You fight one of the most fearsome knights in Lordran and his friend that it is a 2 tons executioner. When one of them goes down, the other absorb his power and become stronger. It's Dark Souls, so we already know it's hard, but fighting two bosses at the same time is insane! But when you defeat tem, you just feel so good! Ornstein returns in Dark Souls 2, but with no Smough and weaker, making the fight more forgettable.

Thought of my 5 favorites but couldnt rank them XD The end from mgs3 Sephiroth from kingdom hearts II Ornstein and smough from dark souls Lavos from chrono trigger Bowser from mario 64

One of my favorite boss fight is against "The End" in Metal Gear Solid 3 snake eater. That fight was so stressful, yet so calm at the same time. It requires to pay attention to your environment to find that dude, yet if you stay to much in a position he will find you before you find him.

actually my favorite boss fight has to be Red from Pokemon Heartgold and Soulsilver

Probably gonna get some hate, but I enjoyed Tabuu more than Master Core. The fact that the adventure lead to this god-like figure and it took 6 of your own Smash Army just to stand a chance has forever left an impact on me. And beating him on Intense is one of the best satisfying challenges I've faced in a fighting game.

Actually in the events of Dark Ryu, that is his master. While Light Ryu is with his original master. Ryu has the capacity for both light and dark so they are both his master technically.

After all the boss fight lists I have seen, I was pleasantly surprised by the contents of your list. Solid picks for sure. I feel like they're all reasonable choices :)

What a cool list! I never would've thought of some of these less conventional bosses. My #1 boss fight is Kefka. I'll never forget the experience of scaling his demonic tower to battle 4 phases of rpg boss fight goodness while listening to one of the longest and most epic tracks I've ever heard in a video game.

I find it very difficult to rank things in order but here are some of my favorite bosses: The final fight in Mother 3 The Catfish from Castle Crashers The boss from Avalonia in Little Big Planet 3

For me I would say 10: Sauron, Shadow of Mordor the Bright Lord DLC 9: Dingle, Binding of Issac 8: Satan, Dante's Inferno. 7: Chakravartin, Asura's Wrath. 6: Poseidon, God of War 3. 5: Red, Pokemon Gold/Silver/Heartgold/Soulsilver. 4: Stallord, Twilight Princess. 3: Virgil, Devil May Cry 3 2: Xemnas Final Fight, Kingdom Hearts 2 1: A three way tie between Ludwig, Lady Maria, and Gehrman, Bloodborne

Well done for the Terry Pratchett shout; I loved Only You Can Save Mankind! I can relate to a lot of what went on back then. I particularly enjoyed the 'game ad' at the start, with the disclaimer at the bottom: "Screenshots taken from a version you don't have."

The fight with Ursula from the first "Kingdom Hearts" has a place in my own heart. At the time, it was one of the biggest and most epic boss fights I've seen in a long time. The epic boss music also sets the feel of how big the fight will be. An interesting thing to note as well is when Ursula talks in the middle of the battle, her lips animate properly in sync with her words, as opposed to speaking with the infamous "sock puppet" effect in certain in-game cutscenes, so that's a lovely touch.

Sephiroth in KH 1 and 2 has also been a longtime favorite of mine. Only ever beat him a couple times each

My favorite boss battle is easily Ornstein and Smough from the first Dark Souls. The way they compliment each other's moves and design really stood out to me, and to make it that much more difficult, when you defeat one, the other absorbs their ally's energy. But I loved every second of it, and when I finally beat them, I was ecstatic.

My favorite boss is Giygas from EarthBound :P

DeaditeWheatley Jirard said that Sonic Unleashed is the next Defend It. Not only that, he has also stated that he is working on a Sonic Generations episode. Now that's the Jirard we know and love.

Kind of a weird example, but one boss that always stuck with me was Tidal Wave from Transformers for the PS2. Basically, this fight takes place after navigating a huge, sprawling battleship in the middle of the ocean. Then, finally, you reach the end and, lo and behold, the ENTIRE FREAKING LEVEL transforms into a Shadow of the Colossus-esque titan. It might be the nostalgia, but to me, it's one of most epic fights on the PS2.

Some really interesting choices Jirard 😊 I like how diverse your TopX lists are as I can never guess what's going to make the cut 😊

Tiamat in the first La-Mulana game. Hard mode, going for the "All I need is One Finger" achievement. The music is incredible, and the actual fight follows a mini-boss gauntlet required to unlock it.

Death & Dracula team up ( Castlevania Portrait of Ruin ) Yeap these are with out a doubt my favorite boss battles

I mean look at exdeath from the game before he didn't just slightly terraform the world he erased nearly all of the towns so much so that you can't even visit they're ruined state ... I guess most people like him because of the surprise I mean they thought that emperor gestahl would be the villain but then kefka just chucks him off the edge. I didn't find kefka to be that funny really but I laughed at exdeath turning into a splinter and his snarky comments I guess I just like practical comedy but you are certainly right on that he didn't start as much but became something quite grand and yes this series does have a good variety

Good call on that Metroid Boss, I'll never forget that one. Loved the Phantom Train as well.

SaMatra. If you know what I'm talking about, then you know. For those who don't, that's the final boss of Star Control 2, and the fight was epic. You've build this awesome main ship that is literally the best thing in the galaxy for fighting anything else, then all those upgrades are stripped, you've barely got enough slots for fuel and crew quarters. You're suddenly forced to rely on your fleet. You have been practicing with your fleet haven't you? No? Weeeeell, no time like the present.

Hey, Jirard. Can't help but notice you've got the Infamous 2 collection behind you. You planning on completing that anytime soon? Please?

I was really hoping to see Fassad from Mother 3 on here. After all of that abuse you take from him as Salsa, and all of his cocky douchbaggery towards Lucas and company, being able to beat the hell out of his barely-even-alive-anymore-ness was one my personal most satisfying moments in gaming.

I love how the number one boss on this list is the number one boss on his newest worst list.

Top 10 Bosses that aren't final bosses *GO!!!* 10. Team Sledge Mamma from IGPX on PS2. It's basically Old School vs. New School. 9. Majima from Yakuza 1. Introducing an old rival that Kazuma has a history with to new players. Plus I liked Mark Hamill as Majima. 8. The Warden from Saints Row IV. You start out barely taking one out with one hp left, then you get better to the point where you fight one and barely break a sweat. 7. Clyde from Pac Man World 2. That boss is ludicrous but it's a real test of your mettle. 6. The Reaper from Kingdom Hearts II. It's got a clever gimmick and fun quick time event. 5. Metal Man from Mega Man 2. It's a fair fight in every sense of the word. 4. The Yian Kut-Ku from the original Monster Hunter on PS2. The first legit hunt of the series and it's a real challenge. 3. Polar Knight from Shovel Knight. There's a lot of implied history between them that's totally up to interpretation and feels like a fight of equals. 2. Shadow Mitsuo from Persona 4. It's got a really fun but kinda tough gimmick that makes it really unique. 1. Monsoon from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The music, the constant blocks and parries, everything about it is just delicious. Honorable Mention: Bob Barbas from DmC: Devil May Cry. The most memorable boss in a game with unmemorable and just terrible bosses.

Beejabber No offense man, there are alot better bosses than the ones in Kingdom Hearts (yes I've played through all the games except KH3). The only fights i truly liked were Marluxia's and Larxene's in 2.5 final mix. These gmaes are kind of...for a lack of better words cheesy to me. And before anyone says anything, i'm a huge fan of Axel so yeah. Realyl my only fav character out of the whole series

the music for #5 is Dvorak's New World Symphony's fourth movement and the music for #1 is Mussorgsky's The Hut on Fowl's Legs from Pictures at an Exhibition.

I played through FF6 for the first time this year and I'm so glad you brought up the phantom train, that bossfight is what made me realize how amazing FF6 actually is lol

You can kind of explain the redeath of undead enemies with a revival item by looking at the undead creatures as negative numbers. You're healing them, or adding to their number, until they're at 0. Once they're at 0, they're not undead or alive.

Neo ExDeath is one of my favorites, because of how careful you have to be. You have four targets to take down, but you can't focus on one at a time, or else when he's down to just one, he'll spam Meteor. But at the same time you want to be sure he can't use Delta Attack. Plus, the ending cutscene is different depending on who's left alive in your party when you win. I didn't know that last part at first, since the one who died was Bartz, and as the lead character it seemed very appropriate.

It's cool how Phantom Train was on this list. I still think about that boss to this day. It was a fun battle :).

Ornstein and Smough/Knight Artorias. Two amazing bosses I won't forget.

I have so many memories withe that Guitar Hero III bosd fight. It took me and my brother hours to beat Lou. It was such a great reward to play Through The Fire And The Flames during the credits.

Tabuu i remember how much trouble i had with this boss and it has a variety of moves plus that sound scream all ways killed me

Big shout out from me to Olmec from Spelunky. Sure, the battle isn't that complex. It's a lot like the final Bowser fight in Super Mario 3, but the biggest differences are difficulty, time dedication, and stakes. You die during this final stretch, you start from square one. This is a roguelike game with permadeath, so if you beat the odds and make it here, your heart is _pounding_. But watching that golden jackass sink into the lava feels so right. Of course, if you're a masochist, then you'll try doing a hell run, but I'm not that crazy.
