Eh Silver was pretty easy for me and didn't feel broken at all, I thought Kamsky from Cold Fear was WAY worse, it has just about everything you could possibly get wrong with a boss fight-stupid escort mission, multiple phases with no checkpoints, completely new mechanics that you've never learned before, hard to dodge attacks with oversized hitboxes, no health powerups during the fight and an overly cryptic method to defeat him that you'd never guess on your own.

Shao Kahn's AI can't deal with jump attack spam and uppercuts.
We recently played Sonic The Hedgehog, and we got to the infamous Silver fight. We of course got the whole 1 ring stun lock, but something amazing happened. During his endless throwing of us against a wall, he was inadvertently grabbing boxes and hurling them at himself at the same time. 5 box throws later and he had defeated himself while we were being pinned to the wall. It was the most satisfying hollowed victory we have ever felt.

I thought it was self proclaimed "gamers", especially Twitch ones, who have enough followers to make their terrible feedback matter, so they negatively influence a game. For example by demanding a Premium Pass instead of Lootboxes that forces you to pay monthly instead of whenever you feel like it.
Let's be honest: we all knew immediately who was coming when he started talking Souls games.
When my friend and I defeated The Destroyer, we were still wondering when the real fight would start. It was such an out of left field let down that we expected something else to show up.
I really liked the scarecrow boss fights. Especially the last one where you fight all the skeletons. They were more unique than the titan enhanced goons imo. I was happy they brought vision fights back in Knight
@Craxin01
Жыл бұрын
Were they really boss fights though? They were more like specialized levels than actual boss fights, IMO.
One tip for Silver: Don't bother Homing Attacking him. Homing Attacks make you bounce up with very little momentum or speed, putting you at risk of getting grabbed before you can get away. If you try to Air Dash away, you risk the game thinking you're wanting to do a second Homing Attack on Silver, which won't damage him, and will let him grab you. So you're better off not using Homing Attacks. Use either the Slide, or the Spin Kick. You'll keep any momentum and speed you had, which will let you easily get away before Silver gets up, and it does the same amount of damage.

I have a better tip: don't play Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).
I've never played Sonic 06, but my worst boss in a Sonic game is the final boss from Sonic and the Secret Rings. Not only is the fight itself really annoying since his attacks can come out of nowhere, but you have to shake the Wii remote as fast as possible for MOST OF THE FIGHT. My arms were legitimately sore by the time I finally beat it.
Lmao. Shao Khan being the first person mentioned absolutely gave me ptsd flashbacks. I’m a chill person and have never thrown a controller… But Shao Khan almost broke me lmao
I liked the boss battles in Arkam. They were repetitive, but their visual spectacles made them worthwhile the Scarecrow battles were so imaginative, even if mechanically simple.
@Craxin01

They were okay. Then again, the game wasn't really about boss fights but about the atmosphere and giving players the feeling of being The Batman, and in that, they succeeded. The boss fights in the rest of the series were much better. Nice little cherries in the Batman sundae.

the idea ia lovelly, but up to that point the parry has been absolutelly incosinstent, you're given infinite ammo, some cover overwhelmingly far away from the boss, and are left with absolutelly no idea. on top of that, gale has a boss-appropriate lifebar so you have to go trought multiple cycles the only 'saving grace' is how absolutelly schematic is the fight. gale loops, and loops, and loops... but worse for me is the following battle against the clone. you have to reduce his life, THEN stay in one specific spot of the arena for a few seconds without getting attacked. it's baffling

At least the boss fights in Asylum make a fair amount of sense. Most of them in Knight are just you in your bat-tank taking on unmanned tank drones; how fun.
Sonic '06... Ahh the Game Grumps golden days.
I love the psychos in dead rising. I think they were heavily improved on in the sequels but i always look forward to them
@ZakTheFallen

They were very bullshit in the original though. How about we face one guy with a camera, versus a pair of snipers who can headshot him from long range? Yeah, that's a fair fight... I dreaded most of the psycho fights, there was no fun to be had with them. Just rush through and hope they die first. I played the Wii version, and quickly realized it was by far the worst version, especially in the boss fights.
For me, Jinpachi Mishima from Tekken 5 is OP AF. Let's see: Unblockable hold that stuns you for a few seconds and heals him a little? Check. A move that works when your character is on the ground and leaves you vulnerable for more combo antics? Check. Teleportation? Check. A fire ball that can take off half your health bar and has a small chance of launching two at once? Check and mate.
@serPomiz

yeah, jimpacy is bull, but the worst part is that he still has full mobility; unlike every other XLbosses which take their swet times moving around, jimpachi can just run at you an hit you with no bullshit, which is the most unexpected thing for such a bull-heavy boss!

if I had to pick a dishonorable mention, I would give one to Jasper Batt Jr from No More Heroes 2. 1st phase; No Sweat. 3rd phase; Seems hard at first until you realize you can stand right below him to dodge most of his attacks. It's that 2nd phase that will make you want to chuck your controller into the garbage, especially on the game's hard mode where you can't pick up a health pizza during boss fights. His teleporting stunlock punch that you'll NEVER see coming, which you straight up CAN'T dodge BTW (as far as I know), multiple Hurricane Punches that can hit you clear across the room which are ALSO hard to dodge, plus the ability to literally insta-kill you out the window makes it the only dark spot in an otherwise fun, wild ride of a game.

When you started talking about the Arkham Series, I really thought it was gonna be the Deathstroke fight from Arkham Knight, requiring you to destroy all of the mercenary camps to unlock, hours worth of work just for a reskinned version of the tank fight from the main story
The last boss fight that really made me angry was the final boss in Uncharted 4. After that entire game full of polished, practiced mechanics that were smooth and fun to use, the game suddenly throws all-new sword fighting mechanics at you with NO opportunity to practice them or really get a hang of them before the boss is suddenly cutting you to ribbons. If there had been ANY other times during the preceding 95% of the game that had used those mechanics and had given the player a chance to get used to them, I feel like it wouldn't have been as aggravating. But there weren't, and it was so jarring and infuriating from both a gameplay and design perspective that it almost ruined the ending of an otherwise very enjoyable game to me.

And yeah, after becoming a Graduate in how to beat Shao Kahn with the Raiden perfectly timed Teleport I beat him and swore to never touch MK9 again.

The furi music in the intro 👌😩
The Forgotten One in Castlevania Lords of Shadow DLC Resurrection was a pain in the ass, you fight him two times, the first fight isn't that bad but it's the second fight that really made me crazy, it started with basically "Simon says" meets Dark Souls and you have to avoid him or else you died instantly but his moves are fast and sometimes unpredictable so is hard, then you fight 4 minions that aren't a push over, then the real final battle start and OMG it's unfair, the boss is so freaking fast and powerful and every time you took out one his body's parts he'll become even more angrier and faster, at one point you need to throw a pillar to stop him and mind you, this throwing part is a new mechanic that was never used before in the game so you'll probably failed the first time because it's all new territory, thank the lord there are checkpoints at every phases, otherwise this boss would been fucking impossible to beat.
Kinda fitting that Sliver Is #1 and Is gonna appear In Death battle, so you'll might get that "Death" Wish!

anything narrated with your mine from furi makes the subject so much better. carpenter brut is life
For me, one of the worst boss battles is the Thief-Taker General from the Thief reboot, for several reasons. * His fire arrows. Periodically, he shoots several of these in a row to try and flush you out of hiding, or he'll shoot straight at you if he spots you. A direct hit is an instant kill, but even if he misses, you can still be damaged by the burst of flames if you're not far away enough from where the fire arrow impacts. If you have the "take no damage" difficulty modifier active (as I did), you cannot afford ANY mistakes. * To escape through the barred door, you need to turn two separate crank wheels to remove the bars, then pick a long lock on the door itself. The game lets you do this without having to actually fight the boss, but the game's infamous "mini-cutscenes" during interactions like these lock you in place and force you to take your eyes off him for a good while, meaning he could easily get a lucky kill because you never saw it coming or couldn't cancel the interaction fast enough. * You've spent the whole game sneaking up behind guards to pickpocket their purses, yet the Thief-Taker General somehow sees you if you try the same on him, no matter what. Also, he can survive plenty of fire and blast arrows to the face before collapsing, while any other human would die after one or two hits. No explanation is given as to why he gets to break the game's established rules like this; he just does because it's a boss battle. * There's a short "walking-sim" segment directly beforehand; during both this segment and the boss itself, quicksaving is disabled, and the only checkpoint is an autosave at the start of the fight. Unfortunately, loading a quicksave also overwrites the autosave, so if you ever hit the quickload button (it's generally faster than waiting for the Game Over screen, after all), that short segment becomes no better than an unskippable cutscene before you can get back to the fight. * And if you thought you could quickload on purpose to go back for more supplies...you can't. The game's story missions are broken up by unnecessary (and often unexpected) points-of-no-return, and one such point-of-no-return comes shortly before the boss battle and the segment preceding it. Plus, the fact that the level has a boss at all is a surprise, so if you try to fight him and realize you're underequipped for it, tough luck. You either deal with it or you replay the whole entire level. TL;DR: I get so fed up trying to deal with this boss that I just pelt him with arrows and pray that he keels over first, at which point I can finally nab his loot and open the exit door in peace.

And before anyone gives the "it was bad on purpose" line 1: I don't believe that for a second 2: Bad design is still bad, even if intentional 3: If it was on purpose, that would just make me angrier, because it means Suda knew it was shit and kept it in anyway. I gotta say, Scarecrow's and Killer Croc's boss battles really were damn good, imo (at least Scarecrow's first boss battle). Scarecrow's first battle was thematically fantastic, the whole setup getting to the actual boss fight was amazing, with the hallucinations and the changing scenery. If they had kept one of the Scarecrow levels, it could have been the best in the game. Killer Croc's boss fight was also awesome, it was the only time plating the game where I was legitimately scared, seeing as how you literally couldn't beat him conventionally. Bane, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, and Killer Croc: all of their bossfights emphasize a different facet of Batman's skills/fighting style, as well as how diverse his rogues gallery is and how adaptive he has to be to take them all out in a single night.

On the topic of the Arkham series, the Excavator Drill in Arkham Knight is especially awful. It's unique in that it's a Batmobile boss fight where you aren't spending all your time in tank mode, BUT the Drill instantly kills you through any sort of contact and and the confusing level geometry makes navigation a frustrating chore. Easily the lowlight of the game for me.

The actual go-to strat for Silver is to do the running kick, rather than homing attack. It gets you away from him faster
No way! I loved the Impossible Lair! Maybe because I got the game way after it came out. One of my faves. And I still remember that Conker fight 20 years later. Truly memorable. Disagree with you Jirad. Great video as always though.
You asked, and you shall receive. Learning from experience, the doc robots have 2 weaknesses and there is some rhyme and reason to them. All the weaknesses either make a reference to the original weakness in the form of animations or color pallette.(At least that's what I got from personal obversations) For example, the top spin acts as a stand-in for the air shooter, but it can also technically be seen as the bubble lead stand-in due to color pallet due to grey color. (If I remember correctly, been a while since I played 3, but that's how I remember doc robot weaknesses. Try color pallet parallels or weapons that have common ground to the MM2 weapons.)
The impossible lair felt impossible to complete normally! I can't imagine doing it right from the start.

It's called the impossible lair for a reason. :P
I may not like Silver, but by and large the worst boss battle in 06 is the Iblis Worm. Having to wait so long for every single hit makes it infinitely worse than Silver, because it too has the same problem; sometimes Iblis decides you lose. And the best part? Just like with Silver, you have to fight it in both Sonic AND Shadow's campaign. And don't you assume the second time is any better.
He didn’t even mention the stupidest part about the Destroyer in Borderlands. If you have a mirv grenade and throw it into the bosses mouth, you could kill it in like 3 grenades. A disappointing boss is either a bullet sponge or killed with two grenades
Sonic 06 gives me ptsd. If was one of my first sonic games as a kid and I kept bashing my head against this wall thinking that I just can't get past this level because of skill. So it kinda bitter sweet knowing all these years later how unfinished that game is.
Probably one of my least favorite boss fights ever has to be the Octo Siren in Shantae. Isn’t even that hard but having to report the same annoying puzzle ten times to finally defeat it was just really irritating
I don't really know why (been about 7 years), but I found the final boss of Sonic's campaign (Egg Wyvern) incredibly frustrating. I either kept leaping to my death trying to homing attack the horn or falling off the horn trying to steer it into the rubble to inflict damage. The thing about the rival fights (Silver, Shadow, Sonic) is they're all pretty short, so even the most frustrating of them can be taken down in a minute if you execute well or just get lucky, but that Wyvern fight goes on for like 5 minutes with constant time sink attack cycles and dialogue.

the vivern has an ungodly amount of timesink. all other bosses in the serie doesn't really talk, and when they do it's during the fight there's a reason for that!

I thought it was pretty fun as it was reminiscent of Egg Viper, for me the Time Eater from Generations was a lot worse.
I really appreciated the little shop of horrors reference. Nicely done.
Top Spin: Maybe blows away the fire cuz it spins so fast and then strikes, so advantage? Shadow Blade: You can't burn the Shadows? I don't have a good idea for this one lol Great vid and fun stuff!
Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Layer's final level is still extremely hard to beat, I can't do it.
I gotta say, my worst boss experience might be M. Bison from Street Fighter Alpha 3. He randomly spams a nearly screen covering super that drains almost all your health on block and I at least couldn't figure out how to dodge it (was like 8 back then). Ducking and jumping never worked. All you could do was just perfect combo Bison or get extremely lucky that he didn't PsYcHo KuRuSha more than once. Twice in a row because fighting games lol. Good memories, though. That game gave me Charlie as a main...and then ripped him away from me haha

"Rocksteady learned from this" yeah up until Arkham Knight when they then made the _only_ Deathstroke battle a *FUCKING TANK BATTLE*
At first I was really confused about the Catherine boss, I didn’t have a bad time with it. Until it was revealed it’s different in Full Body

I remember it being hard on the original but nowhere near as hard as he’s claiming
It's not what I'd call the *worst* exactly, but in Fire Emblem Fates the final boss in Birthright got one shot by my lord... twice. They balanced other parts of that path around the idea that you might be a higher level (specifically the invasions and paralogues in particular) but never really did it for the final boss, so calling it a cakewalk is almost an insult to cakewalks. But I guess that's part of the reason Conquest was the more popular one.
Silver must be a digital hate crime if the effin Bed of Chaos was number 2.
I noticed that Burst Theme for the opening. Was expecting to hear that. Awesome.

What's crazy about this list, is that there are 50 other boss fights you can put in here, and the list still be a valid list.
I thought Shao Kahn from Shaolin Monks was awful because you had to beat 2 bosses before him and then face him with just 1 life bar just to beat the game. The game is easy before that point.
"It's no use!" - Silver the Hedgehog, Sonic 2006
The Doc Robot section in Mega Man 3 features different versions of those four levels, not the same ones, with totally different challenges (such as the big Rush Jet segment in Needle Man's level). Doc Robot is a frustrating boss but I find this part of the game very challenging in a satisfying way.
Is it me or does Jirard not sound as chipper as he usually is. If you’re reading this I hope you’re doing well mentally and keep up the great work Jirard. Remember to take care yourself.

Makes sense. Hard/impossible to be happy when taking about the worst video games have to offer
@ZakTheFallen

Why WOULD he be happy when talking about the most frustrating and unfair boss fights in video game history?
My honorable mention would likely go to The Imprisoned from Zelda: Skyward Sword. Based on Jirard's descriptions it's not as bad as anything on this list, but it feels like it's up there. It's a pretty straight forward boss that can be quite agravating at first, but once you learn its tricks mostly it just becomes annoying. And you have to fight the thing three different times. Each fight adds a new element, but it still feels like doing the same thing over and over again. Also there's the motion control factor. I was a bit of a Skyward Sword motion control apologist back in the day, but it's fair to ask if they made any aspect of the game better or worse. For this fight I doubt they made it better for any player, it almost certainly made it worse, and while I haven't tried the rerelease with regular controls I doubt they made the fight any more fun.

The Imprisoned is pretty awful in Hyrule Warriors as well, at least in the non-Deluxe original Wii U version. It was a mix of annoying and just boring. And its design is just disappointing, like fighting a budget-store sock puppet.

@@BainesMkII I’m sure the Wii’s limitations influenced the direction the design took, but that’s always the case and they still often come with great bosses. So how they ended up with “Spiky Egg” is a mystery to me.

Dude the intro to this video totally Freaked me Out. I made a playlist of Completionist videos to fall asleep to. And then Jirard starts talking about how important sleep is 😮
First thing you hear when starting the video is “you’re mine” and I love the furi music from an INCREDIBLE boss fight right off the back
Me and my friends would take turns just to see who can beat shao khan the fastest. Good times.
one of mine has to be nemesis from re3 remake, more because in the first game he was used so well and showed up at just the right times to make it feel tense and like he was always just around the corner. in remake it felt poorly paced out, yeah hes always around the corner because theres nothing to explore and then he just vanishes, he wast a pursuing threat just an annoyance.

I honestly feel bad for the RE3R team because the RE2R team stole their game's main concept with Mr. X. After how well that was executed, it's incredibly difficult to follow
The Bed of Chaos actually made me stop and learn a speedrun strategy (the firebomb toss strategy) specifically so I could feel like I had some control over what was happening. I actually recommend anyone fighting the Bed of Chaos learn to do this; it's kinda silly but it'll give you some feeling of actually learning and improving when you get more accurate with the throws and it takes a BIT of the edge off.
At least the Silver fight became laughably easy once you play as Shadow.

My pick for one of the worst boss fights might have to go to Okumura from Persona 5. He just spams robots for you to fight, getting progressively stronger as you knock them out, and you aren't allowed to use All-Out Attacks in this fight which would really have helped. If you haven't been fusing Personas to get access to powerful elemental skills and whatnot, this is the point where you're gonna have to do so to stand a chance. And then Royal makes things even worse by requiring you sweep the entire line of robots before you're even allowed to progress! Again, you need powerful multi-targeting elemental attacks to get by. And FUCK, do these guys hurt.

Take your team out to darts before taking on Okumura and make psycho bombs in your room. That made the fight a million times easier for me.
@15:17 calling out Death Bed was super slick and esoteric. I hate that movie so much , and I love that you mentioned it.
Shoutout to the incredibly underwhelming fight with Fontaine from the first Bioshock
Any boss fight that's a QTE immediately just ruins the game. (Sly cooper and dying light are prime examples) Honing your abilities, doing everything to make yourself powerful, to end in a fight where you use NONE OF THAT, is the absolute worst.
I fought Shao Kahn so many times that it actually became easy for me
I've beaten Bad fur day so many times that I've mastered the controls.
Man I was hoping you’d cover Bomberman 64! Some of those bosses are a bit crazy!
The Half Life boss absolutely should be in here
I like how at the end of the video he admits he used a clickbait title
controversial opinion: I always liked the bed of chaos. Can't put a finger on why, but something about it always felt super cool to me
The first boss that comes to mind for me is the vault boss from borderlands pre sequel, If you're Wilhelm it's such an easy boss, you can pretty much just tank everything even if you're severely under-leveled it'll take over an hour but it's really easy. my other 2 would be Lost Odyssey's Blue Dragon (the snowfield section is just the worst section in the game) (at least i think it's that one) where you're stuck with the 2 kid characters, (Cooke and Mack iirc) if you were stupid and forgot to grind earlier in the game, these 2 are gonna be severely underleveled, and you end up having to go back to an earlier save, grind for like 24 hours before the boss or if you just used 1 save you have to restart the game, the boss also has a ridiculous amount of hp and has instant ko moves Frost McBadguy from Fantasy Online (dead mmo), if you're kiting it's a nightmare, i remember doing this boss with 2 other people i accidentally kited out of range then just gave up, you're area to kite is fairly small, basically instant ko if you're not like 20 levels above him with good armor, and he takes so long to beat, my party were all about 5 levels higher than the boss, we got about 2 hours in, i accidentally kited just out of range as he had about 10% health left then i cried.
