I believe that _this_ comment was posted in a time before replying to comments was a thing, so you had to leave your own comment and hoped the intended person actually saw it.

Underrated gem from the Zucker Bros. This movie is comedic brilliance!

To me what really makes this joke funny isn't that the general's line before hanging up the phone implies Kruger is still alive (only to follow up with a line contradicting that implication) What elevates it is keeping in mind that the soldier being discussed was literally depicted in the opening sequence as being so absurdly indestructible that he crashes straight through a stone bridge from atop a speeding train and he doesn't even lose his balance, he dusts off his coat after like it's just another day on the job. With that context in mind, "He's dead" suddenly doesn't sound contradictory at all. It's like they presume that this absolute juggernaut could simply decide to get up and leave the hospital in perfect shape at any point, no matter how 'dead' he may currently seem to be. There's probably an early draft of the movie or something where Kruger shows up again after this, and I'd be all for it. This character is obviously meant to be a parody of "the heavy" archetype from the Bond franchise and nothing quite says "hard to kill" like coming back from the dead. Would it be realistic? Of course not, but nothing in this movie is and I'll be damned if a 3rd Kruger encounter wouldn't have made for even more great laughs.

What do you mean "to me"? It's what makes the joke funny for everyone. It's the setup.

Here in my city a cinema played in a session Top Secret and Airplane. A fabulous evening. But I can tell you that people laughed more with Top Secret. EVERYBODY had seen the movie dozens of times so they started to laugh of a gag even before it was gonna start!!! XD

Knew the gag was coming a mile away which made it even more hilarious 😂

I'll never forget being the only 1 in the theater who laughed when they showed a Mercedes army truck. I didn't know it wasn't a joke, just a Mercedes army truck. We were all laughing together until then so the whole theater thought they missed a joke.😂

British actor Jeremy Kemp loved playing Nazi roles particularly high-ranking officers nice to see Val again as well.

I don't understand why this is considered funny. By "change in his condition" it simply means they're going to freeze his body until medical technology advances to the extent he can be brought back to life. These Nazis were ahead of their time. Very impressive.
