    I initially started my microlocs with a combination of plait at the root and twist at the end. I ended up redoing them all with plaits. I just felt more secure with them plaited. I didn’t want to worry about unraveling. I also like how much length I’ve retained with plaits.

    I’m right there with you. I initially contemplated doing a plait and twist combo but went with the full plait for that very reason!

    I chose braidlocs as well and I did have to braid and band for the first 8 months because I have a strange mixture of 3a? (mainly at my crown), and 4b/c hair (the rest), on my head. But just as you said, I love that the shrinkage, swelling and bunching is minimal. Further, the look is so much neater. Also, the line of demarcation gets less and less noticeable as the months go by on the 4b/c sections. Now, the only noticeable difference is at my crown - the braid pattern there still looks fresh and shiny even after 19 months lol. Like you I'm very happy that I chose braidlocs over all the other possible methods.

    Did you experience any unraveling in your crown area because of the texture there?

  • @LadyDee150

    @LadyDee150

    @David Jays Way Yes, at first they would unravel to almost halfway up. I started on about 12 - 13 inches of hair in that area so I think that's what saved it from unraveling to the root. They are mostly flat and there are bends and juttings in some of them that make them look like butterfly locs. At first, I tried undoing them to straighten them out, and each time the same thing would happen, so I just leave them alone and now they seem to be settled. I would get only about 10% shrinkage ( if that much) in that area even when I was loose natural.🌷

    That is really fascinating to me! I’m glad you have stuck in there even through the tough or frustrating times. I’ve seen a lot of people throw in the towel at the first sight of something they weren’t expecting in their Loc journey! 😅

    Ooh, your locs are very pretty and full. I chose braids locs because I always rocked single plaits but under wigs. Plaits seem to work well on my hair. Never did twists but they make me nervous. It seems like they could cause matting or severe tangles. 🙏🏻

    @@DavidJaysWay My ex girl started her locs with twists years back. Her twists went from mid back up to her neck within a second. 😂🤣 They kept unraveling. She also warned me about twists. Said hers were a nightmare at first. Lol. You're right about braids. Those things are beasts and can withstand a darn flood. 😂🤣

    heyy ik new ❤️i hv some questions, so i’m starting my own dreadlocks in less than a week, and i wanna do i suppose to just do like normal regular braids???, can i use jam to slick the roots???, can i at the like everyday to get a thick look??, and can i dye them within like a month or two of having them???, sorry for so many questions i’m just so worried😭😭❤️❤️❤️, i’m loving your content btwww!!!

  • @DavidJaysWay

    @DavidJaysWay

    First of all, thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. And that is exciting that you are about to start your Loc journey soon. Yes, you just do them like regular braids. My main advice is to just braid loosely. It is the instinct to want to braid tightly to make the braids look as crisp as possible, but the tighter the braids the longer it may take them to loc. You could use jam but I wouldn’t. That stuff is thick and might be hard to wash out and then you would end up with buildup at the very beginning of your Loc journey. If you know you want to dye your hair then I would suggest dying it this week before you install the braids. It’s easier to wash all of the chemicals out to make sure your hair isn’t still processing days later. Then you install your braids on already dyed hair! 🙌🏾✨

    With the braid loc method, are they meant to stay as braids or do you undo them once mature?

  • @DavidJaysWay

    @DavidJaysWay

    They mature with time and loosen on their own and eventually turn to locs.

    I have a question tho, what happens if u add extensions to the braids and leave them on

  • @DavidJaysWay

    @DavidJaysWay

    10 күн бұрын

    The hope would be that the extension and braid merge together overtime so that it looks like one seamless loc from root to tip
