Most forgiving are budgies and conures, but avoid sun conure if you don't like loudness. Parrotlets have become very popular, however they are NOT a beginner bird think more like a macaw, and one that can go ferral fast if you don't do regular daily training. They can become very aggressive despite being so wee. Senegal parrot and military or hans macaw are good too if you want something bigger. Avoid cockatoos unless you know what you're doing they are very demanding and also stress bunnies. Important to meet the birds and get one you fall in love with and interests you. A bird you love you'll train yourself, observe and learn far better simply because you'll do anything for that bird.

We have a pineapple conure, he is in my opinion the loudest, craziest, aggressive parrot of all the birds I owned, he chose my partner as his mate, attacks me for no reason, flies at me, eyes pinning, if he bites, he hangs on and don't let go, a pit bull with wings.

When you have your Pionus in your hand, you keep that hand still and gesticulate with your other hand. When you're holding your Caique, you just wave your hand and bird around and it seems to love it. 🤣❤

Another good thing to keep in mind is that if you keep a flock, they will help keep each other happy. I have a flock of 4 Bourke's parakeets and they are tame and loving and get plenty of time with me, but they are happy when I'm not around too because they have each other! Remember, birds are social animals. If you just have one bird, you are their flock, and all their social needs must be met by you alone. However, having a flock of multiple birds is not right for everyone, either. Just remember to weigh the bird's needs and your own. If they don't match up, you might not be the best match for that bird. Your bronze-wing is gorgeous! I absolutely love them. Pionus are so beautiful.

I had a cockatiel for 18 years. My best friend -- it really felt like having a Pokémon. I went from middle school to grad school with that bird. Our routine was tking him out in the morning as I study, he cuddles on the lap for like an hour and then he ended up somewhere in the house? Where? Who knows. Most probably the laundry basket.

In return, he makes absolutely adorable gentle chirps, mimicks sounds we do when talking to him and loves to cuddle ❤

I read a senegal parrot will choose a favorite person and there's nothing you can do to change their mind, they will dislike everyone else and might be aggressive towards them. ANd just because you bought the bird to be your friend doesn't mean they will choose you; they might choose a different family member to love instead. Is this true?

@Carina my partner and I got a senegal a few months ago. To my partners dismay he chose me as his favorite and was definitely aggressive towards my partner.. but she works from home, and im in and out of the apartment all day while I work, so she has had ample opportunity to socialize with him. Now he'll step up for her and sit on her shoulder but almost never lets her pet him they definitely favour one person over another from my experience, but with enough socialization they will accept and interact with other people too!

I love the darker coloration of the bronze wing. I’m noticing web pages advertising bronze winged for anywhere from 900 to 5k! The most expensive ones have multi year waiting lists. I totally agree with cockatiels. My girl will happily sit on my shoulder for hours while I work or watch TV, she just wants to be close. She does try to chew my pencil and glasses though 😄. Question for you: how do cockatiels and green cheeks do together? I found out after the fact that my cockatiel’s dander is pretty rough on my respiratory system so I don’t think I can get a second ‘teil. A pionus is my dream bird, but a bit out of my price range at the moment. Green cheeks seem like a reasonable compromise, but I’m worried my sweet little ‘teil will get bullied.

They have full access to fresh food and clean water, and can go in and out of their cages as they please. However, we are wanting to add one more bird (not a cockatiel). I would say a green cheek (or another small conure) sounds like a good suit for you but they can be very challenging with their nippy personality and aren't always the quietest plus they need a lot of attention (4-5hrs min daily from experience suits them), their bites are also pretty hard for a smaller bird and they can have a lot of behavioural problems. Cockatiels in my experience aren't that playful but can be independent at times, cuddly and aren't usually super loud but at their loudest can ring your ears. Every birds personality will be different so it can be hard to generalise species. Feel free to ask any other questions if you have any :)) Also consider asking this question to reddit in r/parrots. They usually have some great advice.

Bourke is a lovely option if you're willing to get at least 2. They'll keep each other company but can be friendly if tamed from young age. They are super quiet and generally just chirp. But do take note that these little fluffballs love dawn and dusk. So they might wake you up before sunrise if you dont cover their cage.

Hey how's it going? Just wanted to let you know that you are doing a great job with reviewing parrot species. The 22 odd species you have reviewed is I think the highest number of parrot species reviewed on KZread. So congrats for that. Apart from that your videos on most common things about parrots that come to mind are spot on as well! So keep up the good work. There is one thing that I did want to point out. Your video posting frequency is really low, you post 1 video every three months or so! In my opinion, especially since you aim to review as many parrot species as possible, you should be posting ATLEAST one video per week. That would be more realistic considering your monumental goal. And please, since the large macaws are the most interest inspiring of all parrots PLEASE PLEASE do a video on Blue and Gold and Green Wing macaws. These two are really missing from your video collection. Coupled with your great Scarlet macaw review it would be just awesome to hear about the other two most common species. Other species I would really recommend you do a video on is the Alexandrine parakeet. They are such an amazing bird native to my part of the world! Also, a video on Major Mitchell would also be great since for many people they are the MOST beautiful of all cockatoo species. Just look at the overall coloration and that crest on them! I really hope you will respond to this comments. I would love to hear from you. Keep up the good work!

I'd have to personally disagree with cockatiel. I had a cockatiel for a while but ended up rehoming him because he would demand attention from me all the time time, even more so than my toddler. And when I didn't give him said attention he would just scream, sometimes for hours on end. If you really want a low maintenance bird then bourke's parakeet is a true winner.

Are electus good for busy owners? I have heard something of higher maintenance as they are really smart Also what about other small birds like parrotlets, lovebirds or budgies shouldn't they be on this list ? Btw thanks for the video ... Was requesting this from a long time

Eclectus can be fine with lots of toys in their busy moments, but they often just chill as well. Those smaller birds I personally think do better with more attention, especially parrotlets and lovebirds

Of all the parrots I’ve owned, my eclectus is the noisiest, most needy, high maintenance parrot. He’s never quiet & he always requires attention. My Amazon is quieter & less needy than him.

After moving, been really busy with taking care of my mom, working on starting a business, as well as my day job on top of other things. It's just been pretty hectic, and plus still haven't found any big breeders around here that I would want to work with for bird reviews. I do have one video in queue that I just haven't made a thumbnail for but I'll try and get it done soon.

I personally would not have put a larger bird on this list as they are so emotionally intelligent and even if they are generally chill they still need lots of time. For any one thinking about getting a 'low maintenance' bird I suggest minimum 4 hours a day positive outside of cage time, for most smaller birds like cockatiels, conures and budgies. 5, preferably 6 hours minimum for most medium birds. Then 6hrs+ for most larger birds. In my opinion but it can depend on the individual bird. If you think your bird is lonely consider getting it a friend. I have found that my cockatiel does best with 5 to 6 hours a day. He still has separation anxiety even if I spend almost all day with him so I am getting him a friend.

This is somewhat of an old video but doooo not get a pionus if you live in a apartment, me and my girlfriend did so much research on them and everywhere it said that they are chill quite and dosile (mostly naaahhh man, they are the most obnoxious birds I’ve ever meet, you drilled a hole in the wall cause you had a painting on the wall boom hat hole is now 10 inches wider. We have a balcony cage that is open 24/7 during spring and summer and trust me from 05am-19pm these birds will scream their asses of, our neighbours loves them so they aren’t annoyed thank god. And the female (no matter how many bathes she takes) has one of the worst musky smells I’ve ever encountered, I love the smell of birds but if she flies past you you almost pukes. HOWEVER they are actuly pretty easy to train as (ours) are the most “candy” desperate species we have at home. We have 1 African grey and 3 cockatiels 1 Australian king parrot and 2 blue headed pionus. So if you aren’t bothered with sounds fine get one but I’ll just say this even my African grey has learnt to say “KEEENNNEEETHH” to make the male pionus to be silent. That my take of it 😅

Coco looks like a girl. Definitely recommend viewers to look for a female if you are looking for a less demanding bird. Please don't expect all boys to be this low energy, male cockatiels really aren't, though personalities vary. Source. My girl loves ambient attention like chilling with you or being a lap bird, and is fine sleeping in a corner or given toys to bite, but both my boys demands peekaboos, sings, chatters and scream for attention.

Literally couldn't disagree more with females being easy haha. My female cockatiel was a nightmare demon and screamed no matter where she was. My mum grew up with birds and she always told me 'never get a female' because they tend to be more hormonal. My female cockatiel did settle down after her hormones died off when she was older, but was still a bitey loud bird. Everything I've ever read says that females parrots and cockatoos tend to be a bit more bitey and fiesty.

I don't care for videos like this. Be honest with yourself. If you are questioning whether you have enough time to make a lifetime commitment to ownership of a parrot......then you probably do not have enough time for one! Don't selfishly get one, and realize three months later that you can't handle all their needs and demands. It confuses these poor birds, and can send them deep into depression. Which, can cause all sorts of physical symptoms, ex. being severe feather plucking and biting. Do your research, and visit some responsible parrot parents. Join local parrot groups online, and meet them to see what it takes. Have meaningful conversations about parrot ownership, so you have a clear/concise understanding. I've said all these things, and do not own a single parrot/bird. Because as much as I truly love all birds, I will not make them suffer in my selfishness by getting one when I do not have the time (nor the space) for them. Make an educated and wise choice!

Busy people shouldn't have parrots, period. They shouldn't be left alone in a cage any longer than your baby should be left alone in a crib. Speaking from nearly 40 years of the honor and delight and sometimes exhaustion of parrots in life, ranging from lovebirds, budgies and conures to macaws, greys and cockatoos. They were my reason to get up everyday. Gone now, I can't have any more, waiting to pass on because I am hoping they're waiting for me on the other side. Parrots are magical but not for anyone that can't spend a lot of time with them. I don't particularly like the attitude this guy has about certain breeds
