✅ About this video:
In today's video we are touring this 2024 Kenworth T680 100th Anniversary Edition. This beast of a truck is covered in "Platinum" paint with the black onyx accents. This SEMI RV hauler is brand new, straight off of the production line and an absolute monster of a truck. This is a one of a kind heavy duty truck. It's amazing driving this HDT around town. The maneuverability is better than my RAM 3500 and the crazy part, the maintenance is LESS than a 3/4 ton dually. Yes, you read that right! If you are looking for an absolute game changer of a truck that provides safety, functionality, and a beautiful curb appeal, look no further! This Kenworth T680 has it all!
A special thanks to Doug and Marilyn for allowing us the honor of touring and filming their rig!

Its starting to become a trend in recent years, using semis to tow big RV trailers instead of duallys, primarily for comfort reasons like the owner of this T680. In any case, when this gets sold, its going to be a helluva low mileage semi.

I drive a 2022 T680 a but for work. I would love to use it on a 5th wheel Rv. These things are designed to haul 80k pounds up the steepest grades in the US. There is nowhere he can't go now. All he's gotta worry about is height. He's still gotta feel the road BUT the peterbilts are by far the best riding out there. Lastly, the blinkers can't be self canceling because once the truck has finished turning the trailer just started its turn so the trailer needs to still be signaling.

Need to add an air hose reel. Connect it to the trailer brake connection since you had them remove the trailer air hoses. It’s amazing to be able to air up anything anytime you need to. He got that right about the truck being in control. With as big as travel trailers are getting they are over sizing the trucks pulling them. Yes you have the pulling power but not enough weight and brake power when compared to the trailer. He won’t have any issues at all controlling what his RV does now as he will have plenty of stopping-over and will also have the added benefit of the engine brake especially while in the mountains.

Nice rig, great way to pull an RV around the country. A big consideration for the HDT owners is bridge height. 4 wheelers aren't used to thinking about the bridges they drive under. You need to plan your routes with an HDT.

Thank you for sharing and showing the brand new special addition KW class #8 semi. Very wonderful looking and special features semi. With the Automatic transmission they are putting in these big Rigs. All the stuff you do in CDL school is secondary. In the school you practiced filling out your log sheet a thing and RVer doesn't have to do, sense there is no CDL license you don't spend time in class practice for taking tests. You are never hauling Hazmat material with that being in one part of CDL testing. In the CDL school you spend many hours backing through cones like your backing up to loading docks, you won't do that when pulling an RV. School teaches double clutching, you will never need that with an Automatic transmission. The only thing you really need is understanding of Airbrakes, and engine and body maintenance and daily walk around.

We pull our 45' 5th wheel all over the country with our 11 y/o Volvo 670. We are full timers & use the truck for our daily driver (along with the SXS when we can). When its grocery shopping time, our rig takes two spots in the lot, length wise. Not any wider than a dually p/u. We sometimes use our 5th wheel as a base camp & take the truck to camp in for a few days elsewhere, it is registered as an RV. Want to see more, go Hutchinson, Kansas, where the 2023 National HDT Rally is being held this October, 100+ rigs to look at, not two the same, as far as bed builds. Many seminars & chances to ask any questions re: the HDT world. (Harold, come on over to the 'Dark Side' of RVing, with an HDT, you know you want to.) Stay Safe-Have Fun.

Pretty truck, and the best engine choice. I'm a long time Heavy Haul/Oversize guy and I run the X15 Performance Series 605hp/2050 torque with an 18 speed manual. Did you order all disc brakes, they're the best. Funny how the rules are from state to state, in New York to drive that tractor you need a CDL/A license and if you take the road test on an automatic it's a CDL/A Restricted, and you also need an air brake endorsement. Just be sure you use a Truck based GPS, and know your overall height, I've seen far too many guys miss signs and go under a low bridge. I'm guessing that RV trailer can't weigh much more that 20,000-25,000 pounds, that truck won't even break a sweat. Does the trailer have electric brakes? Just be really carefull when braking in wet conditions, because that tractor will stop a lot shorter than the trailer will, even more so if you're using the Jake. I'd say that's probably a $200,000 tractor if not more, enjoy it and stay safe!

The 24 rides like a Lincoln! Shifts much smoother! I have the new Cummins X15 475 hp! I don’t remember the transmission in this one but not a Paccar transmission! The 24 with a 32k is averaging 9.4 mpg right now! First load I pulled with it.

I remember in 2015 being next to a rig like that at the Koa in Little Rock. They did not have a toad but had a dual sport bike on the back. While we were there they only drove the truck around with the family in it. I think a mid cap Volvo with the short front axle spacing and single rear would still leave room for a bike of some kind and be as easy to drive around as the dually . Not that I've thought about it LOL

I could be wrong, but I believe licensing depends on State DOT requirements. Here in CA, you will need a Class A NON Commercial license. Because of GVWR and OAL. Definitely will not need tires for 100k, they’ll age out before wear. My only concern is I’ve heard 5th wheel frames cannot handle Class 8 transport. KW are,in my opinion, the best big truck on the market so much nicer than the rest. Beautiful truck, but definitely overkill. You can accomplish the same goals with a Sport Chassis. Also a lot of resorts frown on Big Rigs, they do not appreciate the look of a Rig on their property.

I had a 2002 Kenworth T2000 that I bought with almost 800,000 miles on it. It got driven another million miles over 10 years without an engine swap or overhaul. That's pretty unheard of, but shows the longevity that HDT's can have. We currently have a 36' Class A and the driving height, position, and size do very much remind me of driving the HDT. The main negative vs. a pickup is bobtailing and using it for driving around once you arrive at a campsite and disconnect. HDT's are inherently a little "squirrely" when driven without a trailer attached, due to all the extra weight up front that isn't balanced out by the weight of the trailer on the back. They are definitely worth considering as a tow rig if you want a long lasting, low maintenance alternative.

I drive this same truck. 2024. I would not recommend leaving the engine brake on while driving. Long story short you'll save more fuel with it off. Leaving it on means any time you are not pressing the accelerator you will begin to slow and sometimes it can be undesirable. Meaning there is already a natural braking effect just by drop gears as you approach a stop. Use the engine brake to save on holding the brakes when on declines/downgrades. Figure out what speed you would like for the grade and work you way to it, for example 55mph in 11th gear, Hit the M Shift button on the side of the shifter, it will lock you in that gear, THEN turn on the engine brake. What you should then find is the truck slows itself in a very pleasant non-jerking manner and will not down shift on you. This is important for going down mountains. Please give it a shot! Leaving the engine brake on all the time you likely notice very random and sometimes 'jerky' behavior as when the gears are not locked the truck will attempt to guess at how much it should brake. Granted this won't be as critical to you but sometimes I have to do this because of grossing 80,000lb. Great video! Cheers!

You guys never drove a cab-over Scania like a 770 S. And in Europe we had air seats for like forever. And yes 770 stands for the Horsepower.

I love the peterbilt 579 ultra loft the only thing I hate about KW T-680’s is the table always in the way. The pererbilt 579 ultra loft has way more storage than the KW T-680 does. The other truck I love is the wester star 5700ex with the 82” sleeper

Should have training. Three negatives that come to mind are: 1 Insurance 2 parking 3 No four wheel drive. You will get stuck way easier than your F-450. The Jake break is for large hills and mountains. You can cruise down mountain grades with both feet flat on the floor.

You won't see that from new trucks. All the emissions stuff constantly fails, the transmission fail, they're just not very good. Especially when a class 8 costs over $200,000.

@@jamesglenn520 good morning sir. I have no problem walking. How are you going to park a rig like this in a downtown district? What if my wife wants to go to the beach? What if we want to go to a MLB baseball game while on the road? Walking isn't an option for these examples and I don't do ride share. These are just a few examples of things we have done that we wouldn't be able to do with a rig like this.
