A Volvo interior with a Mack exterior would be my dream truck!
They’re all much more liveable than any trucks around when I started driving 30 years ago. The T-600, 377, and FLD were really the only “aero” trucks, a lot of drivers resisted driving an “anteater”. You felt lucky to have air ride suspension and a standup sleeper, standing up between the seats in the cab was new, with the newly released FLD “condo”. The vast majority of drivers today don’t even know of the struggle to get dressed in a flat top cabover. I haven’t even had a sleeper for the last 18 years, I prefer and enjoy going home every day. No HOS or parking issues, there’s always a spot for me to park at the end of the day, about 100 feet away from the time clock to punch out…No need for the comforts of home in a truck when the actual comforts of home are just seven miles away from the parked truck…

I have to admit, that was part of a long discussion I heard late one night on the CB in my first year of driving, and I had no idea then what they were talking about. Throw in a couple of heavy southern drawls, and I could hardly make sense of any of it.

I know the struggle dad didn't get his first long nose till '79 and then he had to crawl over the air conditioner to crawl thru the window to get into the bunk. '79 FLD and with a 42' Dorsey Meat rail he was 3 ft to long for Kentucky's 60 ft overall length law. My trainee's complain about the paperwork now. If they only knew.
I’ve noticed Peterbilt interiors, specifically 389’s, force you to get or stay fit. But that doesn’t take away from how comfy and cozy they are.

My 2007 and 2010 Peterbilt 387 had an apartment sized cab, since those "bubble nose" Pete's were as wide as the trailer. But my favorite was the studio-feeling sleeper of my 2014 Kenworth T680.
@dinglemccringleberryjr.8632

idk if our interiors were spec'd differently but I HATED my 2014 T680 interior. not enough storage in the full sleeper, everything felt like cheap plastic. drawers wouldn't close, curtains broke, seats were uncomfortable, now I'm in a 2023 579 with a 58" sleeper and even tho the sleeper is smaller I love being over the road in it much more than the t680. the seats are so much more comfortable and it has better storage as than the full sleeper T680, save for a microwave slot and a full closet.
We can all thank VOLVO for building the current nice livable trucks we have today. When Volvo bought White trucks & came to America simis were hard riding hard surfaces rattle traps. The first thing Volvo did was crash test a bunch of the White trucks & built from there. I guess in Sweden they care about driver safety & comfort. US truck makers & fleets didnt. Look at any truck from the 70's or 80's. Especially the sleepers, if you could call them that. Thanks Volvo. !

Never got to drive a modern KW. I did drive a modern Pete which was awesome. Always wanted that KW.... Left trucking. Never been happier.
The two best interiors I've seen were the Volvo 860, hands down and a far back second, the Kenworth T660 with the 86 inch studio. The Volvo with the table conversion bunk has been my favorite setup, largest refrigerator, most room in cab, tons of storage etc, very comfortable. The old T660s were also amazing, you fold that top bunk up and you have an apartment a new Yorker would be jealous of lol. They weren't the coolest looking or sounding but definitely comfortable.

This was amazing! Thank you for the time you did on this. Awesome!!
Personally I’ve always loved a fully loaded t680 interior also the T660 studio sleeper & lastly the 389 w the 78 inch stand up those all are really comfortable trucks.
western star is elite in my opinion. reliability of a freightliner and the luxury of a kenworth.
I can't think of anything that a Cascadia leaves you wanting for
That T680 and Cascadia w/o a visor over the windshield is comparable to wearing a ball cap backwards, lol!
As a 9 year "veteran" driver, I've driven everything except Macks and Western Star. With that said, my perfect truck would have the Freightliner Cascadia's cab and sleeper layout, the International LT's front seats and outward visibility, and the PACCAR fit and finish quality. I find the Freightliner layout to be intuitive and easy to use, with acceptable materials. PACCAR trucks are straight luxurious, but I find most center console switches hard to reach without leaning over a bit. Internationals are straight garbage, but their seats are the most comfortable in the game. I guess realistically I'd just buy a top trim Cascadia and swap in LT seats. I know I'm in the minority but I'd rather have a Detroit powertrain over Cummins too.
Now I love the Volvo VNL but I don’t think I would mind the Kenworth Interior as it is one of the most customisable interiors on the American truck market right
Freightliner sets the standard for being an efficient and profitable workhorse. Good for solo drivers. Pretty rough ride for team driving though. It's give and take I guess.
@oreojsn92
Жыл бұрын
I team drive in a Freightliner for Old Dominion and I'd say the Cascadia's ride ages very poorly. Our old 2018 with 680k was good enough, but when roads got rough it was like a bull ride. We just got into a 2022 with half the miles and the ride is smooth as silk.
Glad I found this channel cause I can recognize all the interiors from playing ATS. Great video! Got a new subscriber
In 13 years, Volvo 860 was the best ride, drive, and interior space, and noise reduction ; kw680 had the nicest interior; pete 579 had the least body roll. Can’t speak to Mack or WS. At this stage I’ve come to value quietness, body roll stability, a good seat, and disc brakes. I will always love the International Lonestar that I leased, but they seem to charge the most for a decent interior and replacement parts in general.
So far i’m a Volvo fan but I must admit that interior in Pete 579 and KW 680 are real nice
kenworth and Peterbilt trucks are my favourite
My new freightliner cascadia rattles so much that other drivers ask me to park with the reefers. I especially like the air vents that blow directly on the steering wheel and no where else. I like wearing gloves when I drive so my hands don't freeze or burn when holding the steering wheel. I love the blacked out cup holders because fumbling around to get my drink in the dark while doing 65 mph is so much fun. Freightliner is the best if you don't have a CDL or never drive. Thanks Freightliner for giving your customers the absolute cheapest low quality truck available on the market. I'm sure my company will pass the savings on to the drivers pay. And don't get me started on the radio.
@EddiTaru

That's just stupid if drivers ask you to park somewhere else. It's a freaking trucking life, Everyone is lound. People are stupid. Soon the drivers of electric trucks will be asking diesel truck drivers to go park somewhere else because they are noisy.
@jamesrevell6475

@@EddiTaru I was joking about that but my new freightliner has so many rattles from the cheap plastic interior that I can't get a good night's sleep. Every night I find a new rattle. I stuff a paper towel between the plastic seems of some part and the next night it starts to rattle somewhere else. The outside of the truck also rattles and I know it must be bothersome to other drivers because I can here it over reefers and APUs. Freightliner Cascadia is the Ford Pinto of trucks. There's a reason all the mega-carriers have Freightliner fleets and it's because they are the cheapest made.

My old Freightliner Century was a rattletrap. Every damn trim piece fell apart. It was so cheap, the ignition key from the Dodge Neon at the time I was driving could also start my company truck (they were the same parent company at the time). It had a bouncy ride, but I loved that damn truck. It went 500,000 miles trouble free with a ton of power. It had an old Cummins with the Super 10 before all the DEF crap.
Since I work in a fleet, I know most of these interiors and thus I agree with this score.

I can remember some of the 'old school ' drivers from the mid-late 70's who would always say that they've driven the bulldogs, the freight cars, and kwhompers, but the Pete's were the Cadillac of trucks, and that 'Peter built a truck for a "Man" to drive', the rest were oversized Tonka's that the little boys played driver in, while the grown men all preferred and drove Pete's.. As a kid hearing it from dad and other old timers back in day I always thought it was a funny comment and expression, but now when I see how far driver convince and technology has come from that era to this one, I kinda have a feeling that some of those old timers definitely wouldn't be saying that if they were driving some of these amazing modern machines.. Be safe out there, drivers. Keep the dirty side down and the sunny side up... And, 2 wheelers, 4 wheelers, and everything rolling on less than 18, never forget that these big fellas can't stop on a dime, can't move with the ease that you do, and see the center ass end of his load as easily as you can look out the rear window of your car or SUV, so it's as much your responsibility, if not more of your responsibility, to stay the hell outta the big boys way than it is for him to get or stay out of your way, so pleas try to use common sense and focused thinking when sharing the road with the big boys. Help then to stay safe, and by extension, to keep you safe because their job isn't easy and is much more than simple driving.
Trust me, this new 'digital dash' might look cool but it's not functional. It's distracting to look at, hard to read with sunglasses on, and a pain to use while driving. I've also seen a couple of trucks with the screen frozen, glitching, or just blacked out and now truck doesn't have a speedometer. It is a complete scam... These $80 screens are cheaper than real gauges.

Sleepers don't matter to me, I don't use them. My favorite interior is the first generation Kenworth B model cab with the bumpout that was added later, mid 90s-2002ish era. They're very rigid, don't get rattly, aren't made of the cheap brittle plastic that plagues many newer interiors, and look very good. The cherry on top is how much easier it is to take them apart and deal with gauge issues or adding switches, compared to newer designs where it's obvious that it was designed to be hard to take apart.

Clearly all of this cab is nice BUT like O/O thinking how much will spend to keep all this sensor , computers and electronic working properly
Peterbilt far better than others
I drove a 2019 t680 is roomy but reliable wise it's aromatic transmission is junk and I had nothing but electrical problems honestly as a 6 foot 5 guy is a struggle but I love my Mack pinnacle maybe small but it's extremely reliable

Damn, aromatic transmission, it’s like flavortown.
Volvo 860 by far has the best and the biggest interior.

Volvos 70 inch sleeper to the Pete's 80?
Kenworth 4/5 Pierbild 3/5 Freightliner 4/5 Volvo 5/5
Has anyone figured out cup holders yet?
👍👍👍👍👍
It's a hard decision. I think: 1st) Peterbilt. 2nd) Western Star. 3rd) Volvo.
