After teaching sales and lead generation for a few years now, I found there are three common mistakes people make over and over.
These mistakes are so critical that unless the person figures out how to correct them, they'll never get any results when it comes to generating meetings with their dream clients.
I see these mistakes in all types of B2B sales, whether you're in business development, sales development, account executive, account manager, freelancer, or entrepreneur.
It's not enough to find a random cold email or LinkedIn message template you find online and copy & paste it to your prospects.
I know it sounds basic, but understanding the fundamentals is the difference between zero responses and having your calendar booked with meetings.
Mistake #1) Going Too Broad - When you're sending out your cold email or LinkedIn outreach, it can be tempting to list all the different services you offer. The problem is going too broad when it comes to B2B lead generation makes it too difficult for the prospect to understand what value you provide. This is the surest way to make sure your message goes straight into the trash or spam. Instead, follow your ideal customer on a deep level and focus on identifying and solving one specific pain point.
Mistake #2) Talking Too Much About Yourself - It's easy to get caught up thinking your product is so great, and everyone should be buying from you. But in sales and lead generation, nobody wants to hear you talk about yourself. Instead, they want to hear if you can solve their problems. Can you save people time, money, or open new opportunities for them?
Mistake #3) Vague Call-To-Action - In your cold email or LinkedIn message, you'll typically have a call-to-action at the end asking for an appointment. Make sure this CTA is crystal clear and lets the prospect know exactly what next step to take.

    It's not the incentive that makes the call to action work. I've made a lot of money each year the last 3 years sending out mainly cold emails (mortgage loan officer) to bank customers or past bank customers by ending my email with "Happy to chat and go over this offer with you or answer any questions you may have". And I've also seen the click here to schedule a call so we can chat if it makes sense. It takes A/B testing. Some people don't want to talk in this fast paced world and prefer to ask questions through email first before moving to the call.

    Thanks for sharing that perspective. It’s true you have to change your call to action depending on what works best for your specific market. For example, if you said “happy to chat” to the CEO of Adobe, it might not make the most sense. But if you’re targeting bank customers looking for loans then it would be a different story.

    Hey Patrick, you have INSANELY good speaking skills and create very informative videos. I am new to creating videos and was wondering if you could share how you are filming/scripting these videos? Do you have a word-for-word script that you memorize? Do you have a cell phone that you reference to between takes? Or maybe you have a teleprompter? Any suggestions would be highly useful :) Thanks Patrick and keep up the good work!

    I appreciate the kind words, Peter! I usually write out a loose script with main ideas and bullet points first. Once I start filming, I have an idea of what I'm going to talk about and freestyle the rest because I know the subject so well. Hope that helps!

    @@patrickdang It does help! Quick follow-up question: Do you do takes in between? For example, if there are 3 mistakes identifed within a video, are you memorizing the 2-3 bullets for per" mistake" OR are you memorizing ALL the bullets and freestyling the ENTIRE video all at once?

  • @patrickdang

    @@screwyou709 I'll remember 2-3 bullets per mistake. Then I'll take a look at my notes for a few seconds and move on to the next point.

    Another quick question - Do you put a link to your calendar to book a call in a cold message? Is that a bit too aggressive in your mind? OR do you add a link to book a call in the 2nd or 3rd message within the campaign?

  • @patrickdang

    @patrickdang

    3 жыл бұрын

    I usually have a call to action asking for a time on their calendar OR I will just add a link to my calendar. For a cold email, it's not too aggressive and works really well. For LinkedIn, it may be seen as aggressive so you can experiment to put your calendar link on the first message OR second message once you build some rapport.
