Yes, "Posh Pennies" is big on Posh today, but low on pennies. However I can glean a few insights here. Not not many of these examples even look like kitchens, but hotel check ins. I guess that is the trend? These kitchens are outlandishly expensive and nobody watching could begin to afford them. A small under the cabinet wine fridge is bad enough, but those glassed in rooms showcasing a wine collection is just tacky and garish. I would be actually ashamed to have those in my house and wouldn't want to know anybody who had to show off like this.

I think so too, that's what I purchased over a year ago for our new house we are building. It's called Blue Bahia. The rest of the kitchen will have absolute black on the rest of the counter tops. Oh but there are also some really ugly Blue Bahia so you have to really look around for the beautiful ones.

Finally, a trends 2023 on KZread that actually captures the trends. I assume that’s because you also looked at European trends. Being European I do feel that American interior design can be a little „behind“ at times. So, thanks for closing that gap. I was excited to see you mentioned pull out fridges. We just got one in 2022. Plus: no upper cabinets and an induction stove in our kitchen. Love your profound videos!

They both could just be put away if you entertain or something. I keep my toaster hidden in a cabinet with my crockpot. We don't use it every day. For coffee we have a really pretty french press and a tea pot. You don't have to have a kurig for coffee. Just suggestions. I don't have a lot of counter space, so I put appliances away in the cabinet for more room. I also discovered I don't need a microwave. When it stopped working about 15 years ago I just didn't buy another one. That has been nice to just know I don't need it. You can get a regular popcorn maker for popcorn. Everything else you can cook in your oven or stove.

Hi! Could you please make a video with tips on decorating long and skinny rooms? I find them very common in flats I'm considering buying but I'm afraid I couldn't decorate them well while thinking about functionalities at the same time. I'm mostly thinking about these types of rooms, which are placed vertically when entering from the door (hope that makes sense :D), and have a small window at the end. I would highly appreciate your help with this one :)

This has been my trend for years 😂. I design and decorate according to my taste and likes, and not the trends. Like what is dear to my heart, example: sweet memories when growing up... dark, warm, cozy and moody is what I grew up with. Part of my design takes me back to my grandmother's kitchen in France (dad's side) and my other grandmother's outdoor dark moody kitchen in spain (mother's side). I've mixed both, and I cant tell you how much I love my kitchen and to cook in it. My family/friends rather hang out in the kitchen than any other place in my house 🤔. They love the ambience in my kitchen. And lastly I definitely would NEVER EVER EVER give up my gas stove... you've lost your damn mind. 😂 We have an induction oven and it was horrible, the food doesn't taste the same. That baby was removed and donated after a year of use. This is one trend ibdo not recommend, not if you're a chef at heart.

An induction oven doesn’t exist… unless you mean a stove with an induction hob, but the oven will be electric, not induction ? As someone working in the business, induction is much better on all fronts. That you are used to gas is something else, but quality, precision and speed are much much better on induction and the food tastes exactly the same, it’s about getting used to it and in the mind.

Low profile kitchens that blend well with open concept living rooms and drawer refrigerators love those. The standard refrigerator style is a big beast to look at. The best kitchen designs: Now you see it, now you don't. Also portable kitchens instead of the big bulky styles I predict will be popular.

Yes exactly! I am at the very end of a wildfire rebuild, and my white kitchen was deliberately done to look like a shaker cabinet version of MY grandmother's 1920-30s kitchen, from knobs and pulls to features built in: Toe kick cabinets and appliance garage and pull out corner unit and upper glass door storage and stool seating on one side of an L segment, aged bronze pulls and brass with mother of pearl knobs, wood inside of cabinets, deep drawers, built in sizing dividers for spices etc, pendant lighting... ALL built in the mid 1920s with a few improvements to hardware in the 1930s. Was still original materials going strong in the 1980s with just a few upper cabinet.or wall paint changes over the decades. She had white with black edging counter tiles and daffodil yellow base cabinets, it is an ageless classic. Heck, she even had the woven reed seats and backrest on the stools that are just now becoming all the rage. And looked really good too! Wrap around windows, glass doors cabinets between, exterior door onto covered stoop into her garden... I wish I could afford a gas or wood fired porcelain over cast iron stove and ovens like she had.... She just needed a bigger fridge to fill that space designed in, and slide a dw into half the open center spot used as a prep counter, and it would be a designer dream today.

I’ve been in the middle of a slow-moving house gut remodel and designed it to be as easy to maintain as possible while also trying to maximize functionality and make my short ceilings look more spacious and taller while trying to incorporate as much natural light as possible. In the end the design came out to be very European-like unintentionally. For example I chose a porcelain slab (so much cheaper than marble!) for the backsplash because I hate cleaning grout. I also chose no hardware and flat drawer panels bc too much hardware is distracting in my eyes visually and let’s be real, I just want it easy to clean. I went so far with this whole everything has to be easy to clean that I managed to find a sink that has no seam for the drain hole. I also chose to do no uppers bc looking at the original kitchen with uppers made everything feel like a dark cave. Doesn’t help that the kitchen has northern facing light. We’re also incorporating banquette seating in the peninsula to save space in the dining area because it’s quite small and doesn’t make sense for a centered table. I also chose induction for the range bc.. you guessed it, it’s easy to clean. But also because future proofing! Unfortunately the markup on induction in the US is probably a turn off to most people. Anyways all this to say, I really do think the Europeans (and actually Asian is very similar in design philosophy) have the whole meshing of functionality and ease of lifestyle down to perfection.

Thanks for alerting us to the "trends". Personally, I hate hidden appliances, flat cabinets, cabinets without hardware, marble everything and oversized islands. These are things that will make your space look so "2020s" in a few years. I want to know where the fridge is when I walk into a kitchen and I don't want to bother with opening and closing the "appliance garage" when I want to have a piece of toast or make a cup of coffee. When did we move so far away from utilitarianism to the point of having to hide anything functional? Stupid!!!

Great video! As someone living in Europe, I appreciate that you mentioned the differences. It's actually hard to find a traditional cooking stove in my country, almost everyone is using induction. Same with the cabinetry styles. I love the Swedish brand that you mentioned - we're currently designing our kitchen and we chose off-white minimalistic cabinets with no handles. We're going to combine them with some statement marble - I love calacatta viola, so we're most likely to choose it at the moment. As for the kitchen fixtures, I really wanted to have a pot filler, but they're not popular in our country and our architect was confused 😀 For the island - marble plus some wood panels underneath, Japandi style. I'm not sure what shade of wood we should choose - the floor is light rustic oak, so we're thinking of something similar. Overall we're hoping to achieve a luxurious yet minimalistic kitchen. I loved the "marble garage", something I've never seen before. Now I need to mention it to our architect to see if it's even possible with our cabinetry. Thanks for all the ideas, your videos help us go through the process! 💜

Induction stoves seem little more than a tech fad. I'd need to replace 2/3rds of my cooking vessels. Induction stoves/hobs don't work with glass, solid ceramic, copper, nor a lot of my best stainless steel cookware. Several things I make regularly are best made in glass, ceramic, or copper. I can't afford to rebuy 2/3 of the cookware I've been slowly collecting since I was 17. Nor would I want to, since many of them are gifts or inherited from family. It's not very eco friendly either. Induction stoves don't seem to work that much better than a decently robust electric stove. I f I had the money and space for an second 4 burner cooktop in my kitchen, I *might* get a induction one. Maybe.

I'm all on board for the espresso and dark cherry cabinets. I can't get behind the medium walnut. It reminds me too much of the cheap partical board furniture from the 90s. Those walnut slab cabinets were in my grandparents dusty old camper in the 90s. It looks cheap and now it's high end. Make it make sense.

😬 The heavily veined marble is going to be soooo out of style again! We had a bathroom with walls with veining like that, and I hated it so incredibly much. I like the style @4:07 - that's a well balanced high-contrast marble. When it's used everywhere, it's a "no" from me Blue marble is another ine that's definitely geoing to be one of those things to replace in a decade. Deep green, grey in different tones, white are all classics, but red and blue are those things people tend to get really tired of

Agreed. Not to mention that marble is a high maintenance surface prone to stains. Maybe it’s great if you don’t cook? No way would I use it for a kitchen counter. Plus the marbles featured in the video are so busy-looking, ugh.

You are limited by the pots you can use on conduction cooktops. I used to have one but do not plan to own another one. I love to use some cast iron pans and a few pans but they are not recommended to be used on conduction cooktops. If you enjoy canning with a heavy canner you should not use it on any glass top stove as it could break the glass.

Hi! I'm furnishing a new apartment while not living there yet. I really tried sticking to a colour scheme and doing things right. However... I think I might have too much dark brown furniture now for a small space and a huge heavily patterened rug without the budget to reverse what I've done. I'm afraid the rooms now will look really cluttered, dark and stressful😅 while I wanted a nice, cosy and light feeling to my new home. Does anyone know some trouble shooting to solve this without costing too much? I would be so grateful!! 💛

  • @tashsikkes

I would suggest looking at the colours in the rug and using some decor to tie it all together but keep it minimal without too many patterns. Mood lighting will be a big one as well, maybe opt for a couple of lamps, this will give a more cosy effect. Your space may not feel light but it will definitely feel cosy and if you choose colours that you feel restful in thats all that matters. If you want I can give you some additional pointers on insta? Im an interior designer by trade and more than happy to help! Good luck! ☺

So glad to see that Shaker style won't be going anywhere anytime soon. I think a kitchen should reflect the style and age of the home. I live in a Craftsman Farmhouse, so sleek modern cabinets are going to look strange with all the wood detail a craftsman offers.

Those ultra veined marble surfaces look too busy and not that pretty which in turn makes a space look cluttery even when everything’s put away. Some of these new styles that the uber wealthy go for don’t make them luxurious or fancy at all in fact they do the opposite and make the space look obnoxious, gaudy or ostentatious.

From what I can see, every one of these "trends" is for people who like to show the kitchen, not the food that comes out of it. To me, it is very bad design when function is reduced by form. As Noel Coward said, "A triumph of never mind over doesn't matter".
