Top Fuel Warmup (Scott Palmer)

Спорт

Scott Palmer has a bit of difficulty warming up his Top Fuel Hemi for 3rd Round Qualifying at the 2012 U.S. Nationals, but the crew quickly finds and fixes the problem. Check out this great sounding warmup and Scott's starting line launch. Play it on the big speakers, and turn 'em up loud! I think I've finally found the right settings to record the sound of these fire-breathing monsters!

I had recorded Force many years ago with a high quality microphone but the throttle blips were too high pitched for the mics to pick up. But the idle and start were spot on accurate. People would come over to my house just to hear the tape at full volume on my 400 watt stereo. Had to stop because I kept blowing out my mid-ranges and woofers.

When I was a A/C mechanic the customer would stand over my shoulder saying what's wrong after 30 seconds, if you didn't know they thought you didn't know what you were doing. I told the customer the smartest people on earth had technical issues with the space shuttle and cancelled a launch and spent days figuring it out. Sometimes shit happens and any person with a mechanical brain knows this.

I still say the loudest and most ear-damaging part of these cars during the entire warm-up process is when you kill the fuel as it leans out and winds down at the very end.

Cool old Palmer vid. Palmer has put his time in,,enough for a stripe or two. They'll get a win this year,,Bet on it!!. NEVER EVER rest your hand on a running Mag or any dizzy. Hands off as quick as possible. Your world stops for a moment,,if you survive. You become glued to the car/mag and you feel it's anger,,,if you survive. Damn 12 amp Sprint Mag pinned me back,,,,,AT IDLE!. I could only imagine a Fuel Mag latching on. Not fun nor healthy.

when I was a 16 year old apprentice at college i saw this lumpy thing on a shelf in the classroom ( back in 1979) I could see it had been partially sectioned to show the internals and it had a plug wire or two chopped off almost flush, so I could see there was a shaft that should rotate, it was real stiff, then all of a sudden it kind of released and turned through 90 degrees or so and I got a shock up my arm !! I found out later it was a magneto ! Acton College, London .

MSD had a new to us MSD 10 back in the days at one time,,although it is debatable if they were that good of an ignition box. Ride the lightening!!,, Bloody outch!!.

As dangerous as these mags are, it's nothing compared to older CRT tube TV's. I knew a guy once that weighted 300lbs, got thrown against the wall messing with a older TV. He had no clue or no business messing with it but thought he could fix it and save repair cost. He learned the hard way and never touched one from that day on. Dude was lucky it thru him off of it when it did, otherwise he'd of been a gonner.

Remember, they can't "pull" from another industry. Automotive, in general, evolves from racing. Not in fuel eco, or part replacement, but it can be a template. NOT top fuel. Connie MAY have learned from Don, and visa versa . That's how it works More like Lahaie learned from Coil. I am in awe of the teams that struggle to keep up. I've been a rabid fan for 30 years. I'll mourn the day FORCE leaves. Watch, go if at all God Damned possible.

Nitro methane is poisonous. So is methanol. Crew members should always wear a full face respirator mask! Your lungs will thank you. Also, better hearing protection for crew members might not be a bad idea either. Wear ear plugs AND mufflers too! The nitro thud, thud, thud, is like a sledge hammer on your your ear drums! Just saying!

Uhhhh houston ...when you start your 10-12,000HP motor, the transmission shouldn't be engaged. Wheels moving=BAD...It barfing nitro methane right when the Methanol runs out isn't right either. Also, I would have been on those MSD mags almost at first. They're generally so bulletproof and someone with a damn multimeter would have seen if they were creating enough power but that's just me...ALWAYS check your ignition source peoples.

@@marcbuffington8944 Then I withdraw my insult and we back off. They generally seal with blips don't they? I've of course done the nitromethane wetworks a bunch of times but I hadn't seen a runaway spin on the tires right off the start. Lots when someone's in the seat and they test R and F but never with nobody there. Seems dangerous. Hell from the way they frame it, it doesn't look like anyone is in the seat at all. I would think that's a workplace safety thing. Like put someone in the seat no matter what you're doing if that booger is running.
