I'm guessing you've heard the three way guitar duel between Joe Bonamassa, Josh Smith and Tommy Emmanuel. Mind blowing!
They carry the torch handed in the 60s and 70s by the late Albert King, BB King, Freddie King, Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, Paul Kossoff, Mike Bloomfield, Gary Moore, Alvin Lee, Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher, Roy Buchanan, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Peter Green, Pete Haycock, Danny Kirwan, Rod Price, Kim Simmonds, Jeff Healey, and the ones who are still among us, Robin Trower, Mick Taylor, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Buddy Whittington, Billy Gibbons, Buddy Guy, Warren Haynes, Ry Cooder, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Walter Trout, Jim McCarthy, and many more.
This young man Kingfish Ingram is just phenomenal!..

Loved. your list - can't argue with any of your choices. I've been loving Schofield, Smith, and Gales for quite a few years now and yet most music lovers have never heard of them. And so glad you included Robben Ford. If you haven't heard it, listen to him paying tribute to Paul Butterfield Blues Band, especially "Got a MInd to Give Up Living" and "Work Song". Keep doing what you're doing Devon. I'd love to see more videos like this. You'll never get everyone to agree with you, as it's one man's opinion.

As someone who grew up listening to classic rock/metal, I’ve become such a Gary Clark jr. Fan boy since I started learning guitar and getting into blues music. Him, SRV, and ZZ top.

Loved your video. Loved your list. But I would make one revision: SLASH - Orgy of the Damned. I've heard a lot of great Blues guitar, but I just sat there, frozen, with my jaw hanging, like an idiot, staring at the computer monitor the first time I heard it.
I'd never heard of Marcus King before - Just wow !!!

A nice appraisal. I agree with your reply to someone else...favourite is very much mood-dependant, so many great players to choose from. My current favourites are Eric Gales and Josh Smith live (together or individually), and I mentioned in a reply on another of your vids, Greg Koch (who deserves much more recognition imho). These three players can always surprise me (I like rock and some other genres too, so mixing styles seamlessly really appeals to me). Joe Bonamassa has a lot of variety in his catalogue too, what with his own stuff, Black Country Communion rock, and the soulful side with Beth Hart. I'm really enjoying the variety in your approach to this channel, good stuff! How far into rock do you think you'll go? (I'll stay with you even if you keep it mostly blues, which is mostly what I play when I pick up a guitar).

That little lick that Eric does right at 17:05 is incredible. I’ve never heard anything quite like it. I’ll have to look again, I don’t think he touched the pick-up selector. But somehow with his attack he gets this crazy tone on that. 🤘🏻🎸

You are correct with your list, but you forgot a few Such as Johnny Lang, Stevie Ray Vaughn, B.B. King and Kenny Wayne Sheperd. All of these folks are phenomenal on their own.
Good list! A couple of additions in my opinion might be Albert Cummings, Tab Benoit, Larry McCray, and my personal favorite slide player, Sonny Landreth. A few women to check out aside from Samantha Fish. Ana Popovic, Anni Piper, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Sadie Johnson, and Erja Lyytinen. All are worthy guitar players.

JOHN MAYERS LOOKING AT BB AND TRUCKS LIKE I GOT NOTHING LOL
Sure, there are some really technically great blues guitarists out there, right now. But I still like to listen to early blues. They all seemed to have their own style. They were singing about their own lives. They were making it up all along. So much blues/rock today sounds like something I've already heard.
@Devon_Rismay
Жыл бұрын
I feel u on that for sure
Gary Clark Jr. knows how to find ways to make his own style of blues. I like how he takes relatively simple bends and patterns but finds different ways to use them. It creates his unique sound. He stands out with the structure and soul of his playing.

I like your list, but for me Derek Trucks is the best today.. His skill and tone is 2nd to none.. Gales and Bonamassa are bad ass players, but to me their playing is too fast for the most part.. Albert King told SRV once that there is a lot of good guitar players out there but they play fast and don't play with soul, and I tend to agree.. But you do have some great players on your list..
@Devon_Rismay
2 жыл бұрын
I wouldnt argue the point with Derek, depending on my mood, I suppose I'd have him as the best blues player. But I've also seen joe & gales play with ridiculous soul as well. So that's why I have em at the top.
@paulprendergast3184
2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Derek is the best living guitar player out there right now and not just his slide playing. He is also a band leader who conducts and arranges performances by the best live band in the land these days. Have a soft spot for Eric Gales cause he's a lefty. Joe B just doesn't excite me as much as many others do......as I type this I am listening to and watching Jimi play live, Red House after Hear My Train A Comin (Royal Albert Hall February 1969). It's an immaculate recording and everyone else is second best by a long shot😎🎸🔥🔥
