I'm from Turkey. When I was a kid, my family took me to village where my great grandparents live and some other relatives live. In diner, we had Sheep's head. I still remember my great grandmother gave its tongue to me to eat it. She told me she is giving it to me because she wants to see me successful. She said something like "you shall be able to give great speeches in front of important people"

Merhaba kardes. Kazaklarda bu gune kadar kelle yiyoruz. Ve buyuklerimiz Kulaklarini kesip evin en kucuklerine yani cocuklara "Buyukleri dinlesinler" diye verirler. Yani dilini "keskin dilli orator" olsun, yada "tercuman olsun" diye verirler. Buyuk olanlara gozlerini verirler "hakikati gorsun ve adaletli olsun" diyerek. Et yeme kulturunu gocebe olan bizim atalarimizdan iyi bilen halk yok. Etin her parcasinda bir anlam vardir.

In scandinavia much of this is also quite common. Porrige is practically a national dish in Norway and sheep's head is not unusual in Iceland. Potatoes can be peeled or not, depending on what season you get them. Early potatoes have a thin skin and it is easier to just wash the dirt off. Winter potatoes get a tough skin which we often peel. We also eat a little bit of horse meat in Sweden. It is mainly smoked and thinly sliced and then put on bread. For some reason we call it hamburger meat... don't know why. As for religion, I think the sentiment is similar there as well. We are christian countries but few people consider themselves truly christian or religious at all. Not many practice religion actively so I would say the scandinavian countries are mostly secular in reality.

Thank you for great video! In Poland we used to eat a lot of offal including my favourite tongue, but I believe it is usually from cow or pork. Back in the days during celebrations it was often to have a pigs head, but I don't remember eating it. We don't have a lot of sheep, unless you are in high mountains, but then they are mostly used for milk (and delicious cheeses) and wool. Most of Europe peel their potatoes, not so much in UK though. We eat a lot of bread, but not with other form of carbs (like pasta, rice or potatoes), I think it is very common in Spain and/or Portugal to eat bread with everything ;) In Poland we have so called "Chinese soups", which are not really Chinese. It may be similar to your Korean salads, or it may have different origin, as our "Chinese soups" are rather cheap instant version of noodle soup.

We don't have actual recipe for it, as it is only bought never homemade. Vifon is a company that produce them, later "amino" and Knorr started to do similar style of instant noodle soups.

To the fact that we actually very respectful to animals because they are very huge part of our culture, i would like to mention, that back in Kazakh Khanate we compared persons wealthy by the count of sheep, horses and cows they have. Because rich people had a lot of them, because of that our pet names in families are all like "құлыншақ"(baby horse) " ботақай "(baby camel), "қошақай" (baby sheep) (We also have some beautiful pet names that i adore really much is "жаным" (zhanym) whic means "my soul" we call that our lovers or people we really love. And the second one "айналайын"(ainalayin) which have very deep meaning. It comes from verb " spinning " and is connected to tengri ritual, but in all we say it to the person that we want to all their illnesses, misfortunes, and worries to turn to us, so that we took away all their problems, usually parents call their children with that pet name)

How interesting...being French i can relate a lot to what you are saying. I saw lots of French labels on your supermarket vlog, even the setting of the supermarket is like a French supermarket down to packaging, alleyways....Except that French eat pork...all parts of the animals are pretty much for sale.. tongue, kidneys, brains, lungs, Im vegetarian and we live in England and all this is not widely available here in United Kingdom...that carrot salad "korean salad" is so common....i get delivery every 2 weeks from French supermaket and order this all the time...i grew up on this, school canteen will have this as a starter option available most days 😀...i saw certain dairy (we too love dairy) produces that dont exist in France but made by French Brand "Président"...its unfortunate that those arent available for us to try it would be so interesting...i guess we will have to come and try for ourselves in Kazakhstan! One day soon hopefully 🙏 Sabrina and Ruby

Pork especially wild pork can have some serious illness and parasites if its not cleaned and cooked correctly. I would not have any problems with the meats there. Except maybe the horse meat. I would try it i have been told it was good. But i was rased on a farm/ ranch and was riding horses by the time I was 4. I have 5 now. I don't think I could eat those 5. So would corn portage be the same as southern American grits? And here we eat the potato skins alot of the time.

PS- peeling potatoes seems to be something that varies heavily with many Americans! I think it's connected to what you described- in some places, it's the main effective way to "wash" the potato, or get it clean. I'm a farmer and also know that a disease called "scab" makes the skin unpleasant to eat, so if that ever happens, people tend to peel them. I prefer to eat everything, including the skins, but have to grow the potatoes in such a way that they don't get scab (keeping the soil acidic, and not using overly fresh manure, is the way).

The problem with the taboo over pork originated from Trichinosis. In Ancient times their weren't vaccines for it and people would get infected. That's no longer an issue since the vaccines. Pigs are not dirty in the wild. They're also as clean as you want, depending on how you want to raise them.

A pig's head (cūkas galva or cūkas šnukurs) is one of the traditional Latvian holiday foods. Often they are not easy to find, so it's time to get to work! First, decide if you want your cūkas šnukurs fresh-roasted, or smoked.

We eat horse in Sweden in Scandinavia. Its very common and sold everywhere including places like 7-11. The funny thing is that Americans think it must be illegal.

TBH, grass-fed ruminant animals are probably healthier for you to eat. They have a better Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio. Same with Pasture-raised chickens and pigs, but that is more difficult to find in the US.

I was married to a Kazak/american. Well his ancestors were anyway and it was strange how I thought he had Asian in his line because of his eyes but when my daughter did her dna she found out she was Kazakhstan, Turkish, and Greek. So we are learning all we can of the traditions and foods of the culture. I am Meso American and she knows all my side traditions. We are enjoying learning her ancestors on her dad's side.

the sheep brain is delicious .... I am always the OLDEST foreigner at the table - I am FAT because I am well honored. Thanks Central Asia ! (if you want pork - go to the Russians - they have it; and as they can't often sell it - they are happy to see an American that will keep their stocks well enjoyed) The 'Korean' Salads are great adds to home borshcht. In Bishkek if you are drinking an ICED LATTE it is because over the last 8 years, it is a cafe that I have trained, posted, promoted. (Seattle Native - coffee should have ICE damnit)

Sheep head is alright. My preferred cooking method is roasting and I would take the cheek. Brain, I absolutely will not because of possible prions. Horse meat objectively would have very little fat and somewhat gamy, like a giant rabbit.
