Honestly as someone who's painted minis since the 90s and went from the evolution of craft paints to airbrushes, I absolutely love these things. I took a long break a few years back to find out these have come out and just simply fell in love with the potential of speed painting an army then making them better as you progress in both time and skill.

They really open up the hobby yet give plenty of scope for experimenting. Your videos inspire me to try more techniques with them (even though ive alos got a bunch of citadel paints too). @@DonSuratos I think the "gatekeeping" here is that some elitists feel you cannot use any shortcuts to paint minis, you need to always take the "hard route". This is why these snobs dislike speedpainting, they think it isn't "real painting" because painting needs to be hard and frustrating. They think you need to suffer, before you deserve the good results. Speedpaints make this hobby far more enjoyable and accessible, this is a good thing!

I am hyped for fanatics Speed Paints have been the best product I've picked up. I had problems working with traditional/GW layering, but Speed Paints are out of the bottle consistent translucent paints, and have been a much better starting point me to work up an understand of transparent layers. I am much more excited to do zenithal, working to understand undercoating, painted on shadow, and glazing. For me they skipped a timing consuming boring portion of painting and allow me to focus my learning and efforts in an area with a lot of effectivity.

I just tried the Speedpaint 2.0 last night for the first time. I desperately wanted to hate them because I love to do highly detailed painting, but I also never manage to finish painting an army, and I love horde armies. So, I decided to try them. I painted a tyranid for a test model, it was done in about 45 minutes including me picking out details with my normal paints, and the bug looks great. Like, would not be at all embarrassed to put him on the table. These are going to be perfect for me because I can use speedpaints on my troops, then spend all the time i want on my character models and special units. I am so excited now, cannot wait to get the kids to school so i can try more color combinations on the other 6 tyranids i primed for testing!

@DonSuratos I'm loving them! Terribly expensive though... I'd always wanted to do a Tyranid army, but with my painting style a horde army was just not feasible... my husband saw me knock out a gaunt in a half-hour and is buying me a 'Nid army for Christmas! Thank you for your video, I'd watched a few but you were by far the clearest and after seeing your video I sat down and painted up a bug I'll be proud to put on the table in under 30 minutes. I've made first cut in Golden Demon (Baltimore games day, back when the US bunker was still in Maryland), never lofted a Slayer sword but I still have pretty high standards, and 100% these paints quickly produce a model that I'll be proud to field in my army. Absolutely awesome man, thank you!

Question about speedpaints..i have version 1 and i like them, they take there time to dry, level out and leave a good finish without coffee stains. Would you need a wet palette (like one would need to prepare for normal acrylic paint) when using this type of paint? I've also heard that its difficult to go over the speedpaint again with a second coat (e.g. if these are the ONLY paints I own, and if i wanted to correct a colour or highlight, could I do it?), so is that a concern? Would you need a clear coat on them at the end?

I paint landscapes and do some acrilic paint pouring,,theres no real way,its not about painting to make others happy, its about makking yourself happy. Do your own thing for yourself ,no ones in any position to tell you your doing it wrong....throw the rules away......there are No rules in art.

My gripe with Army painter is speed paint 1.0 was horrible to work with in comparisson to contrast or the new Vallejo Xpress. Didn't bother getting 2.0 after splashing out 89$ on paints that was sub par. And thier normal acrylics is prob the worst in the market. I do have hope for the new Fanatic range however. But ALOT is going to make me swap away from my go to paints from citadel/vallejo/proAcryl and AK.

I think this video would've been better had you showed the paints and consistencies of said paint, as you were applying layers. It definitely would've been more informative. Also, stop feeding the trolls. Trolls feed on attention.

I am painting since 90s and I've seen a lot of such moron "speedpains is for children". Thing is, I almost sure that he himself is not capable of making a decent paintjob and now literally everyone got a tool to make result he can't achieve, hence the butthurt =) I have my speedpaints 2.0 and I never looked back because it saves so much time. One of the greatest products, gives beginners an opportunity to get their armies done in short time and still looking good, and for more professional folks it's a tool of many applications.

Buying paint is a joke. The whole point of the exercise is accuracy, relaxation and creativity. Geetting paint instead of mixing and extracting your own dyes from nature is for children.
