    the "lost" scene from cars is scary if you think about it, lightning is surrounded by what are literally dead cars, imagine being in a forest and being surrounded by dead bodies

    Only if they did some reference to the history of the Chinese and Mongolians. Before the wall was built. Without bias towards the Mongolians based only on references recorded by the victors. There's always a reason for an uprising and a revenge plot.

    Shnobbs Man most definitely. Of all disney villains, I never remember him. Even when watching I constantly end up thinking "oh yeah that guy is here...". Sigh. So sad when they cut something like that. I mean. Poor bird, and poor guy. But If they wanted to tame it a bit, keep the bird bit, but have the guy be captured and dragged off, let implication do the rest. Thanks for posting. This really did prove interesting and fueled quite a bit of imagination~

    Not the first time they "implied" someone got murdered. The scene "How many Scouts does it take to deliver a message?" "One" and then the dramatic cut does that pretty well.

  • @Shalalacls

    TableWrens not just that one, there's all the setup with the doll, and the little girl, the "payoff" being Mulan finding it among the ruins. That always got to me a lot more that the implied murders. The message of all the middle section of the movie is that it's not a man that's terrifying, it's the whole concept of WAR the real scary thing. Making Shan Yu stand out that much would have hurt that message, so I think the movie is better off without it.

  • @alexburn4014

    @alexburn4014

    6 жыл бұрын

    yep. Disney had there work cut out for them trying to adapt Tarzan. The original book is dark, violent, racist and sexists which makes sense for the time it was written in. The interesting part is that this cut version of their death is the real version of what happened to them in the book. The crew of the ship that lord and lady Greystroke turned against them and stranded them on Africa where they made shelter out of the supplies left for them. Lady Greystroke gave birth to Tarzan on that island, went crazy and then later died in her sleep leaving only lord Greystoke to care for their son. Kerchak wanted his gun so he broke into the tree house and murdered him while Kala switched Tarzan with her dead baby. As strange as it is Tarzan is actually a english lord, speaks both english and french, smokes, drives, and he has a large body count consisting of animals, Kerchak, and natives. Also clayton and Tarzan are related but its not as bad as you think. The original books are a good read.

    So basically Lightning pulled off a Snow White? (I'm sure a finished version of that scene wouldn't be nearly as terrifying as SW, that is, if you think that particular sequence in SW was terrifying at all; a lot of children didn't really get scared by that one, myself included when I was little). I also actually think the Pinocchio scene wasn't bad at all. It was actually really bittersweet. The characters contemplating eating the fish, a family member, due to being pushed to near insanity by the hunger, just to suddenly snap out of it and pull themselves together and beg for forgiveness because it was the right thing to do was actually a really good moral.

Or how Bambi goes back to find her lying in a pool of her own blood afterwards? There was also an early draft of Pinocchio where donkey Lampwick tries to escape with Pinocchio but sacrifices himself so that Pinocchio can get away just in time for the guards to take Lampwick away to the docks.

    I think it was good for Zootopia to drop the shock collars, as it they kept them, then people would refuse to learn the lesson it was teaching due to it being too dark to the point where it's too close to real life.

    Actually I think the opposite: It would have been too over the top. It also adds a bit of brilliance: Bellwether wanted to create the kind of society saw in the scrapped version of the movie, but the main characters managed to prevent it.

  • @rainpooper7088

    @rainpooper7088

    Jeremy Riley It would also have been very one-sided and ultimately undermined the message. Zootopia as we know and love it shows that there is racism and prejudice towards both predators and prey. Most prey is seen as weak and unfit for certain jobs while predators are seen as potentially dangerous and oppressive. It's also good to see that they differ between species of predators and prey and the stereotypes that are commonly applied to them. We weren't meant to side with either predators or prey, we were meant to look at the world the movie created and see for ourselves that both of them face struggles and neither of them is completely innocent. Now if you insert the shock collar thing into the story, you'll have all predators as one defined entity and all prey as the other one. Hell, we even got a scene of a baby polar bear getting excited and then shocked by his collar for feeling emotions. Awwww, that's awful! All while the some jackass hamsters run over Nick's tail on purpose so he'll get angry and shocked. What assholes! And there even are some nasty myths about what happens when a predator gets his collar removed. Dirty lies! Oh, and people don't think that Judy can be a cop because she's a bunny. Boohoo. See the problem here? The problems of predators and prey are very unequal which is bad from a movie perspective. Any discrimination the prey might face would most likely be shrugged off by the audience as "The predators have it worse, privileged bunny bitch should stop crying". The good part about Zootopia was that there was no single oppressor/oppressed group. Both predators and prey have prejudices applied to them that they have to fight. I know that in real life, it's very well possible that one group has it a lot worse than another, but in a movie, this kind of portrayal comes off as polarizing as we are outside of the shown world and can't empathize with it the same way we do with the real world because you know, we don't actually live there. In a movie, the audience 100% relies on what they are shown and if it's done wrong which can happen very easily especially with a topic like that, the moral turns from "We should judge someone not for what he is but for who he is" to "We should side with the oppressed ones and go against the oppressors and everything will be alright" because it seems like a much easier and just solution to enough people, just look at all the anti-white SJW. The first moral encourages working together and getting to know each other while the second one promotes placing everyone into the group of either "the oppressed" or "the oppressors" and then make them work against each other. And we should definitely not strive for the latter. So from a movie and moral perspective, removing the shock collars entirely was most likely for the better. I love the Zootopia we have because it's about critical thinking and *real* diversity and tolerance, not the bullshit the hypocritical SJW preach. Now nobody actually knows how the original Zootopia would have turned out, but I'm very happy with what we got.

Heck, maybe Nick and Judy have to investigate and shut down a cult or something that are rioting to bring the collars back and need to ask another fox and rabbit couple, or maybe a wolf and sheep, heck, even a cat and mouse couple for information!

    Nya, the thing with Zootopia is that the original concept was more powerful than the end result, but darker, sadder, and more dramatic too. The shock collars are an analogy of "the talk" that all African American children have with their parents (you cannot do this, not this, nor this although other children can because because you are black and everyone will think you have bad intentions) and the star that the Nazis put on the Jews. In fact in the original concept Bellwether clearly explained that her ultimate goal is an holocaust. The film crew was very excited at the prospect of putting in the film many winks to terrible things that they themselves had suffered and especially that the story was told from the point of view of the victims of racism, but they were forced to remove many of those things.

    I was watching the special features on my cars dvd and went to the deleted scenes. The part in "lost" where the car engine bit makes a squealing sound gave me creeps. I was horrified at the idea of dead cars laying with trees growing through them. I've never heard of The Black Cauldron but the scene where the one of the horned kings men melts is just too petrifying for small kids. Woody was actually quite a villain in the deleted scene where he pushes buzz out the window.

    For the dark woody thing, the truth is, the movie was actually made the way it originally was supposed to, tone wise. The dark woody story only happened because adult test viewers felt like the movie wasn't cynical enough. Hence, the very cynical woody. They should have kept the shock-collar scene in Zootopia as a PSA for pet-owners who use them or are considering using them for their pets. They are cruel and barbaric; they do not teach pets obedience and "respect" for their owners, just fear and more aggressive behaviors later on.

    I think The Black Cauldron is relatively scary for a child movie, but this deleted scene is the cherry on the cake. Who thought it was a good idea for a Disney movie?

  • @Medachod

    @Medachod

    Жыл бұрын

    I mean, to be frank, the original team wanted the movie to be a dark tone. If it was already conceived that way, toning down a movie that clearly has more adult writing in it to begin with heavily took away why the main villain of the film was intimidating. It proved that every innocent life was just another pawn in his army and arguably even made him the darkest villain ever conceived in a Disney film. It is one thing for other cases in the video since they were abrupt tonal shifts from an existing pace of writing, but The Black Cauldron was overall conceived as a grittier, darker film. It destroyed its identity and, as far as we know, its original animation is lost in time. Maybe Joe Hale truly does have the uncut black-and-white version, but who can say by this point but Hale himself. It is incredibly deserving of an uncut release that they should heavily consider before the supposed raw truly is lost forever.

    Actually, the "shock collar draft" was quite different from the final film. There are some parallel scenes and characters, but the mystery element wasn't there and the lesson was more like the civil rights movement and less like today's prejudiced society.

    Honestly I don’t think the Mulan deleted was bad, in the actual mulan they a kill one of the messagers. In the final movie they captured 2 messagers and the hans leader asks “how many men does it take to deliver a message?” A soldier answers “one” and kills one of messagers but spares one to deliver the message.

    Think about it. Shan Yu stabs one of his own men just because he had a canary. That's almost PG-13 level of disturbing, you even see him wipe off the blood from his sword. At least with the messager, it showed them kill them off screen.
