Top 50 ZX Spectrum games of 1984 - in under 10 minutes

Ойындар

Hello and welcome to the third episode of TOP 50 games in under 10 minutes.
We are in 1984 today to check what kind of games we played on our beloved ZX Spectrum back then. And it was a good year for Speccy gaming.
Ultimate Play The Game released Knight Lore, Underwurlde and Sabre Wulf - all considered classics to this day. We also annoyed teachers in the fantastic Skool Daze and (unsuccessfully) tried to clean up our house in Jet Set Willy. We ran 100m in Decathlon and explored a ghost infected crypt in Fred.
Also, we cannot forget the legendary Ghostbusters and a few not so well known gems like Kokotoni Wilf, Jasper and Worse Things Happen at Sea (WTHAS).
Games are, as always, presented in no particular order.
As a brand new channel, we are all but invisible in the vast fields of KZread content, so if you like what we do and want to help the channel grow, please click that like and subscribe buttons. In doing so, you'll really help us out with KZread algorithm, so we might be just a bit easier to find for other retro enthusiasts.
Have fun, let us know in the comments if you agree with our choices (and if we missed a title that should be on the list), and see you in the next one!

*Loved* the ZX Spectrum! I grew up with bootlegged games here in Italy - basically, some guys had access to Spectrum games, tweaked some lines of code, changed the game's name in the loading screen (usually to some broken English word salad) and published them on compilation cassettes that were sold through newsstand outlets. That was a great way to play lots of amazing games - although we didn't know what they were 😃. Also, I _never_ for the life of me understood what I had to do in almost any Spectrum game 😄

Back in the early 80s I had the Speccy 48k and the C64 Breadbin. The Speccy is not "way" better than the C64 just as much as the C64 is not "way" better than the Speccy. Even though it was 80s playground politics. Each machine has it's pros and cons, for instance the Speccy 3D and Isometric with well defined high res characters was awesome and the C64 amazing SID chip, ultra smooth scrolling and parallax abilites. They're both awesome machines in my book and we'd not be where we are today without either of them. Although one thing in my view is they both have dismal colour palettes. Speccy is too limited and too bright, C64 is too dark and too pastel. But between them both they were absolutely awesome machines.

@@chillivodka01 Haha. I think we all knew the C64 was better, but we had the Spectrum so it was the best. Also, it was way easier to "get" games for it. At least in my area.

  • @retrononame

Although C64 was a superior machine in many ways (SID and sprites to give 2 examples), I don't agree that Speccy was rubbish. I had Spectrum in the 80s and my cousin had C64. And some games were superior on C64, while others were much better on the Speccy. 3d stuff especially was far superior on Spectrum (probably due to the faster processor), but there were also platformers, arcades, etc... that were just better written on Spectrum. For me personally, each of them machines has strengths and weaknesses - and both were great. But as I said - that's just my opinion. Thanks for watching!

  • @eldontyrellcorp

@@retrononameIt's also my opinion. Each machine had its strengths and weaknesses. I found the graphics being much finer on the Speccy in several games, despite the attributes clash. And I had a c64 as well, so I perfectly know both worlds. The biggest asset of the c64 was the Sid. It was revolutionary and had (and still has) this unique analoguish sound.

  • @stewsretroreviews

I don't agree here, without the sid chip, I dont think the 64 would have been as successful. The speccy graphics looked a lot more detailed than the C64 on a lot of games too, and I have both. And if you had the speccy first, you would've loved it, so many great games to play, it was always the underdog, but it had some classic games, Jetpac, skooldaze, Sabrewulf which are perfect examples.
