I remember those days. I exactly remember the day I played Wing Commander back then on a fast PC with a good sound card at a friend's place for the first time. I had an Amiga 500 but I wanted to be able to play this this game so badly for years. On the other hand most Action and Sports games and especially music/sound effects and 2D scrolling for the most part still were much better on an Amiga. And my friend was lucky because his father was a PC freak. For teenagers a fast PC in 1990 wouldn't had been affordable.

I used to play a ZX spectrum game, that was a man walking on a yellow grid and they would walk away from me. Add the other end of the grid where the man was walking to. There are numbered doors. When you died a wizard brought you back. All he was was a drawing of a round face, with spiky hair all over his head. Does anyone know the name of this game?

There once was a ZX spectrum game that had a yellow grid flooring with three number doors at the end of the room. When you died once, a wizard would come and resurrect you. He would tell you what to do from then on. The goal was to get through door 100. Does anyone know the name of this game? It is not wizards warrior or wizards layer.

The C64's VIC-II graphics chip really made a difference. The scrolling, in most instances, was lovely and smooth. The ZX Spectrum, on the other hand, had to have scrolling routines in the coding. So, a lot of the C64 games have a nice professional sheen, whereas the Speccy games all look home-coded. And that's even before you start discussions about the colour and sound.

Iron Lord was a very nice game. But only the first part with the beautiful drawn map. Very good graphics and music, great atmosphere. But after that part it seems like the developers had used some unfinished completely different games which didn't fit to the rest. But thanks to the Arm Wrestling I only once got that far.

The irony is that most games from the 80's on the Amiga were either bad ports or ports from the Atari ST version, not many actually took advantage of the Amiga hardware like we started to see in the early 90's and even with that, the Amiga is still ahead of the PC, that started to change in the early 90's as the PC moved forward but the Amiga didn't and when the A1200 was released, it was an upgrade but nowhere near enough, it should have been better than the SNES in every way and probably in-between the SNES and PS1 in capabilities, Commodore really dropped the ball in not moving forward enough, especially when they had such an advantage with the A1000 in 85.

"Extreme" is probably the only game that looks better and sounds okay on the Specy. Guessing these are all Specy 128k games because of the sound. But the C64 kills it for a computer unchanged since 1982. IMO a 7 Goals to 1 result. I had a 48k Specy.

The problem is the games are emulated and without interpolation, as in the CRT TV. It's better on a CRT or in a secam system TV. But for History, it's no price. 1987 is the beginning of lower production of games. two years later, 90% of those games will be bad, because they will attempt to make adaptations of arcade games made by machines far superior (CPS1 from Capcom or Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and eventhe powerful 2D Capcom CPS2!). The programmers and graphists are not to blame, but the producer or the editor, surely, because they have not given money to creativity, and because C64 is antique. The lack of 32 colours on C64 was a problem which was not one in my... Green small screen: the games were superb on it, because of that! And this period with one guy making alone a game distributed by an editor has ended. Exit Karateka or Beach Head!

Maybe I am mistaken, but it almost seems like this is comparing a PAL c64 to NTSC Atari? The C64 games seem to be running just a bit slower than I am used to (as PAL ran slower) but the Atari adaptations seem more NTSC speed. I'm not sure if there was a speed difference between NTSC and PAL Atari 8-bits, but it's just how it seems to me.
