Top 50 Commodore 64 (C64) games of 1986 - in under 10 minutes
Ойындар
Hello and welcome to the third episode of TOP 50 Commodore 64 (C64) games in under 10 minutes.
Was this the ultimate C64 gaming year? 1986 brought us so many classics, that it could well be considered the best year for C64 gaming. Ghosts 'n Goblins, Bomb Jack, Green Beret, Paperboy ... Really a great, GREAT year for Commodore 64 games.
Regarding the Hunchback 2. On some sites, the release date is 1985, on some (like Lemon) the date is 1986. And as I didn't include it in previous episode, I decided to include it now - it's really a great fun little platform game.
Games are, as always, presented in no particular order.
Have fun and let us know in the comments if you agree with our choices (and if we missed a title that should be on the list).

It's incredible how much better these games look and sound compared to games from 1983 on the same hardware.
Never seen 'Ultimate Wizard' before - and, I must say, that it look an awefull lot like 'Jumpman' - one of my personal alltime favorites.
Agree this was peak C64 year for me. Finally off the tape games and with my 1541 disk drive I was trading & swapping mega-hard at high school ! I remember the concept of The Sentinel just blew my mind and still does.
Still amazes me how good Paperboy and Gauntlet turned out on the C64. .
I remember some games were so limited-looking or weird they were actually scary (I was just a kid) But some were so fantastic looking it still impresses me to this date. To name a few, Uridium, Int Karate and of course Paperboy. As I remember the best, Saboteur and others were the gems of the past trying to stay, and created the industry, they weren't just passing by.
1986 for me was one of the best years of C64 games. Very nostalgic looking back at these games. Great video!

Fabulous video, one of the best years for C64 game releases. Some absolute triple A titles among them. Love these videos, keep them coming 🙂👍

Thank you! I agree. 1986 might just be the best year for C64 gaming.
Definitely the best year for C64 games. So many memories and more still trails to blaze as there are some games on this list I wasn’t aware of and look like great titles to check out!

@@retrononame Thanks for posting the video! That’s the beauty of the Commodore 64 thousands of titles, so there’s great games to found and new ones being made even to this day. What a brilliant machine it is 🙂
too few comments, too few views. Thanks for uploading this

Thank you for watching and for the kind words! I'm glad you like the videos. More to come soon!
Finally some recognition of Firelord! 😄 So many hours (countless!) spent there....❤❤❤
Totally had forgotten about Enigma Force, played that for days on end.
I think this 1986 Best Of needed more games like Fist II, Infiltrator, Lords of Conquest, Murder On The Mississippi, Parallax, and Tau Ceti.
Didnt play most of the games on this list but loved playing ult wizard
OMG I played most of these and loved every moment.
Off the top of my head, top 5: Wizball, Head Over Heels, Parallax ... partly because of the brilliant music.
I only had 6 games on this list. Top 6: 1. Leaderboard Golf 2. Ninja 3. Super Cycle 4. Paperboy. 5. Donkey Kong 6. Mermaid Madness.
Good list :)

Thanks! 😄
Loved the magazines of the time too ... I was a Commodore User man, not a Zzap 64 man. Actually inspired me to eventually get into magazine journalism ... once I got there the good times had gone sadly so I quickly left.
I'm surprised just how many of these games I either owned or played on a friends 64... On another note, did anyone else ever spend half a lifetime typing out a huge program script from a c64 magazine? Normally resulting in a ":syntex error in line> 123 (or something) when you went to /RUN the darn thing
Played most of these games a lot. Got the C64 for christmas 1985 and played a lot during 1986. This was the "prime gaming year" for me as I started my record collection in 1987.

Me too, same year. I felt so sorry for ZX Spectrum owners whose parents couldn't afford a c64. Mine couldn't either, I had to share with my younger brother as a shared christmas present, but I soon muscled him out of it. 😄

@@roderickthered4981 Yes, but you had Back to School which we did not get :) The guy with the Spectrum in the class loved to show it to me. The thing though, if you discard the custom sprites, sid chip and such, the ZX was actually faster than the C64.
It was a time, when they had to stimulate our imagination with shiny covers to the cassettes to enhance the games. Raid over Moscow was like real nuclear war to me, as I was brought up in the era of the cold war. Strip poker, was like really playing it live with hot chicks, as I was just 13, and it would give me a woody lol International soccer was just like real football in my brain.

Agreed! We used our imagination to supplement the lack of graphics capabilities in these great little machines. Thanks for watching!
6:38 i found it !!! Thank you :)))
@6:20 The Great Escape looks like it should be the first-ever open-world game hahaha . I've never seen it before. I imagine the entire game "scrolls" on the diagonal like Paperboy?
@retrononame

Similarly yes, but it scrolls in both directions not just in one like Paperboy.

Brilliant and to.think I had all the commodore computers and now I have a tiny emulator box with 175,000 games plugged into my television with games on it reviewed here lol 🤣
I never had a C64 my neighbours had one though. I had the Amstrad CPC464 which had brilliant games such as Sorcery which was also on the C64 but just didn't look anywhere near as nice. To this day that game still looks amazing on the Amstrad. Then i got the Amiga 500.
One of these (Ultima IV) is regarded as one of the best games of all time.
Another great year

That Enigma Force music sounded a lot like M.U.L.E.’s to me!
Great year for C64. A request, how about a C64 vs Atari 800xl video please?

I'll see what I can do about C64 vs Atari 800xl. Could be a fun project as I don't really know the Atari 800xl scene that much.

I started with 8 games from year 1983 (C64 vs 800XL). Was interesting and Atari looks like a very nice machine. Video should be up tomorrow or Saturday at the latest.

Did I miss Castlevania?
@retrononame
4 ай бұрын
Castlevania was originally released in 1986, but the C64 version was released much later (Lemon 64 database states it was in 1990). And Castlevania is indeed represented in the video I did for C64 top games in 1990 ;)
Wizard!
ULTRA MEGA OVER KULT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i wonder if the difficulty of c64 games is responsible for the resilience of this generation
Never seen a worst c64 list likes this...
Quite terrible, nowadays even teens make higher quality games... That shows that the new generation has significantly higher IQs

These programmers were smarter than today's programmers. Typing code in assembly is very difficult .
Great list thank you for uploading it brought back some memories. Cauldron 2 that was an infuriating game
