DEAR JQ, I am not a racer, not even a hardcore basher, but I am an R/C enthusiast at my 40s now, and I can say for sure that you are a true blessing for this hobby/sport. I respect you, I hear you, and the latest video/room settings are top of the notch. Please continue to educate us, to make fun of everything cause we need it badly and to keep us company throughout the year. You are the ONE and ONLY thing that makes sense and noise in all R/C. Keep going!!!

Tip #5. I was leading a local on road race by a large margin so i "slowed down." My lap time increased by several tenths and I maintained that pace as I continued to drive in a smooth manner. Being relaxed and driving calmly made me faster. I stopped pushing and the car responded.

Well said JQ. I run On Road here in the USA and this is the mentality that I have applied to my race program. I run against National Champions and get beat by them all the time. But I understand why I’m not winning. I focus on getting better and learning from each race. As far as I’m concerned, when racing with the pros. I never loose, I learn...

Got told something early on when I started. A guy said 'there's only 10 tenths in a second'. At first I didn't grasp what he said but the more big events I went to I realised how much it made sense. Not only for how easy it is to lose time but to gain it as well. The same guy helped me at a local meet one time, he made me run a full tank at 100% endpoints, then another at 90%, and so on. We charted the average lap time and overall efficiency and to my disbelief I was faster at 70% throttle than at flat out 😂 handy little tip

Also, most people I race with that dont get better? It very obvious why? They dont try to understand why something works or why something doesn't. I watch them watch me doing better and getting better, but... I put in the work and thought and energy on how to drive better. For me it is mostly an issue of trying to overdrive but recently I have got that under control more. People that are really trying to get better... will get better! Great info man

I totally agree with the point you made about setting the car up for yourself and how you like the car to feel, but there's a lot of people at clubs I race at that insist on copying top driver setups and surprise surprise they never work for me and I am always slower copying other people's setup. Thank You for making this point, out loud.

I am 39 and love RC and specially the 1:8 TT buggies (was competing locally since i was a kid, 11 years old, but with interruptions). have been watching the videos, it is the first time i am commenting... very interesting and sophisticated videos, and your attitude is great. exploring the limits both inside and outside the track will sometimes result in this kind of incidents, but hey, it is the same atitude that brings greatness. and you already achieved it, by my standard. keep up the good work. greetings form Portugal

Ya know, I’m man enough to confess that up until this point I was not your biggest fan; perhaps I fell into the trap of popular opinion etc, but be that as it may I went there. This video and your advice here connected with me, and is so true, I’ve improved and got faster ever since I joined SWorkz and had to somewhat think for myself with my car and the setup (10th scale and in the UK). You offer this advice free over KZread, as do many other drivers on the world stage, but this was honest, concise, and to the point. Thanks JQ, and good luck with the Horizon business, they obviously can’t take a bit of industry banter.

Hi JQ, first of all thank you for all the effort you put into our hobby. I can't wait for your book to arrive. In this video you mentioned the most important thing, which unfortunately I realized way too late: "Don't blame the car!". Now I know my buggy is doing well, so I've been looking for tips on how to improve the driving style and I finally found it in this video (at least in a short preview). I'm looking forward to the upcoming videos comparing the cars. Or can I just not see the link you mentioned at 18:15?

To save a lot of money people need to look outside the world of RC. Like screws one bag with 10 screws of an RC brand will cost the same as a box of 100 screws from the hardware shop. Greases, afterrun oils, filter oil etc are sometimes even cheaper if you buy 500ml cans at the car part shop than in a 50 or 100ml bottle from a RC brand. Titanium screws... do you really need them if you are no top driver? The same can be asked for Ceramic bearings, do you need them to become on podium? Steel bearings can be found for very low prices in an Asian shop, even then when throwing away instead of cleaning can be cheaper. My biggest saving are engines. Toplevel onroad engines are 400 to more than 500 euro. I buy 200 euro engines of the same brands and modify them to the specs of high end engines. It saves 200 to 300 euro an engine!
