So I have a rare pool for us anyways... it's an inground indoor pool. I ordered the liner too big, like 6 foot too much... any suggestions?

Good video: Question: A major enemy to your liner (which is normally above the water line) is the direct summer sun. The summer sun will over time literally cook the liner, making it "crispy" and easy to crack and rip. Is there anything a person can snap on the edge of the pool that will hang over the edge of the pool by two to three inches to simply protect the liner which is normally above the water line. Thank you!!

My above ground pool installer used round up landscape and weed granules under my liner. After a big rain fall my entire liner bottom has yellow stains in the pattern of how he distributed the granules. I can smell the chemical. After researching the ingredient Pendimethalin, Ive learned it contains a yellow die which stains and it is oil based and toxic! Does anyone know if this could be eating through my liner into my swimming water? I am concerned more about safety than aesthetics. He said he will replace my liner but it will take him a while to get to it. I don't know if it is safe to swim in?

Not sure what you are referring to. Can you elaborate? Are you looking for a way to hold the liner to the shape of the during the fill process to eliminate wrinkles? If so, a vacuum can be used to pull air from behind the liner, which will help put the liner in place until water is filled. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    1. Many companies make them for liner over steps and its not a custom pricing.2. I never noticed this till you mentioned it so idk about "many homeowners" not liking. It.3. Ive seen 30 year old pools with liners being replaced and the walls are fine. 4. Every several years is just a lie. Most people get over 10 years. You can get 15+ if you take care of it. 5. Yes, this is a problem if you empty your pool. Dont. Have it professionally closed at the end of the year.

I am planning for a vinyl linen pool, this was very good info to take into consideration. A small BUT: I have seen some of your 2-minute pool videos now, every time you spend far more. A bit irritating. You should change to 3, or better 4 minute, or best skip the timer and be less stressful about the time. Friendly greetings from A Norwegian living in Thailand.

Hello, I have a 36 yr. old vinyl liner pool 18' round with bullnose coping and was just informed by my contractor that it would be best to fill the pool with dirt and close it out because the coping is shot. He indicated that the cost to repair wouldn't be a good return on investment. Would this be your recommendation? Can I buy the coping and do it myself? Thank you!

The best solution is the one you're most comfortable with. There aren't any DIY coping kits...and we'd recommend you hire a pro for this one e there are a number of things that can lead to an unsightly coping job.

Good question Janina. Fiberglass pools can last several decades. Of course, as with all things this is dependent of care and proper maintenance. We wrote a blog article just last year answering that question. Here's the link. Thanks for asking. www.riverpoolsandspas.com/blog/how-durable-are-fiberglass-pools-and-how-long-do-they-last

lol funny my pool was built in 78 walls still fine, how many fiberglass pools last that long? first liner lasted 12 years . cool thing about changing the liner is you can change the look, One thing is for sure I would never ever get a fiberglass pool. There was a corvette that was stolen and dumped in the river they found it 5 years later the fiberglass has swollen and cracked all over the place.

Crush, it sounds like your pool is one that was very well built and has been very well maintained. What we don't typically see, are cases like yours...vinyl liner pools that receive diligent care. And this is for various legitimate reasons. As for the fiberglass pool lifespan, there are early models from the 70's/80's that are still going strong, because they were well manufactured and well maintained (and that's what it comes down to...quality manufacturing with high grade materials, and good care). As for the corvette...The resins used to produce auto parts are likely not designed for prolonged water exposure unlike those used for the pool and boat industry. So it stands to reason that the corvette (sorry for the owner btw) body wouldn't last after being submerged in water for that long. Thanks for watching and weighing in.

I have a vinyl liner over galvanized steel in-ground pool. The first liner lasted 18 years. The second one is at 18 years and is still good but the pressure treated wood it's attached to is shot. I'm replacing the wood and reattaching the old liner. It should last a few more years. What's this guy talking about: 5 years?

I agree with everything here As for the stairs I like that there not in the pool itself and are a separate part Becuase it give more swim space inside the pool as for the coping When he showed us the coping It look 100% ugly It’s worth the extra 2-3k for Stone. As for the Liner Having to be replaced Yes it is not cheap but you can get a lot of life out of it if used correctly

Yep...this video needs B ROLL. For sure! And YOU are RIGHT again with the liner...it can last quite a while 10+ IF good care and diligent maintenance are performed. We've even heard of a liner lasting 15 years (say what?!?) yep. Anyway, we speak from experience, and the typical homeowner sees a liner last 5-7 years

In our in-ground vinyl liner pool, we are going to install a double main drain with an automatic hydrostatic valve to prevent the soggy bottom ground water problem. We would not need the vertical perforated shaft pipe.

If your liner dosnt make it to 5 years. Please message me. I travel around the country teaching people about the specifics of lathem liners. We see 30 swimming pools a week for 27 years and 90% of them last up to 15 years if treated properly. NEVER ALLOW A DOG TO SWIM IN A LINER

Hi liam kavanaugh! We agree whole heartedly that liners can last well beyond the 5 year mark. But the truth is that pool ownership is not the easiest thing to learn and "master" for many homeowners. Over the years we have typically seen liners needing to be replaced typically beginning at the 5 year mark, for various reasons. We're just out here passing along information to help folks make a well informed decision. Even if that means NOT buying a fiberglass pool. YES, we said that. And LISTEN to Liam! Never allow your dog to swim in a vinyl liner pool! Thanks for watching and commenting.

Teach teach teach...we agree, but none the less, when a liner has to be replaced (for whatever reason) it's better to know that cost up front as a homeowner. So, knowing that a vinyl liner pool has to be replaced at some point, we'd rather them know what that cost is going to be...for us, it's all about them making the best decision for their family and their yard based on all the information they have...we have recommended MANY clients go with vinyl over fiberglass because it was obvious that was the best for them. Really appreciate your candor and comments. Thank you.

Hi routt ookc! You should plan on the 5 year mark. however many folks are able to get the liner to last longer. We've even had folks comment that their liner has lasted 15 years...BUT...there are many, many factors that play into the lifespan of a liner, and on more often than not, we see folks replacing them after about 5 years.
