    Thought: 2nd gear being difficult is another part of the 1-4 skip shift? You gotta jump through some hoops with the EPA to produce a car like this anymore. I don’t know how true this is, but just for thought: 1-4 skip shift increases epa mileage, 2nd gear being hard to get into increases likelihood of drivers using skip shift, thus validating it’s epa est city mileage that nobody will ever get. Because auto makers have to have a certain epa mileage over all vehicles, they have to squeeze out another 1-2 mpg here and there. Also, 19 mustang does the same fwd lurch off throttle under 20mph. Super annoying and makes it look like you can’t drive

    My 2nd gear is not that bad (2017 SS 1LE) but i know what you're talking about. My 2015 SS was like that too. i always figured that they just beefed up 2nd gear, the linkage or whatever, because thats the gear your most likely to really slam into gear when you get on it.

    The absolute best thing I did on my SS was to get a Skip Shift Eliminator. Seriously, it's like, less than $20. You plug it in next to the transmission, and you're done. The mechanical pin that is programmed to come out and prevent you from getting into 2nd gear to save gas no longer is programmed to come out, and every shift is smooth and easy.

    To help me feel like I’m not sitting right over top the steering wheel, I added a 40mm EZ clutch pedal extension to help me sit a little farther back as it extends the pedal about 1.5". It helped me get into a more comfortable position in the car. Also, to help keep my side bolsters from getting beat up when getting out of my 1LE, I place my left hand on the door sill plate while extending my arm straight out, then lift my body up an over the seat bolster while simultaneously transferring the weight to my left arm and pivoting my body out of the car. It looks a little awkward getting out in public, but I’ve become more graceful at doing it and my seat bolsters still look new.

    Was going to say this, expeirence the same thing on my r6, when you snap off the throttle, it has very aggressive stock engine braking, and will make you feel like you're breaking and being pulled down. Just strong engine breaking coming with a bigger engine that has an aggressive engine braking on the stock tune and NA vs an sti that's trying to keep boost. I love engine braking, but sometimes it's too much and you have to tune it out to be more smooth so you don't get squirrely in corners mid shift or on wet days.

I absolutely love the hybrid transmission in my gen6th more than was in my gen5. but yeah I would not get a standard, the automatic/hybrid is so cool.. you might sacrifice a tad of the responsiveness, since I think chevy governs the automatic response, but I am willing to forsake that for the absolute coolness of the hybrid auto/manual transmission its so cool imo.

    Item #1: I've had 2 Camaros, an RS and now a 2SS. Both convertibles. Yes the visibility is poor. However, in between the Camaros I had a GMC Sierra Crew Cab. I've never ran over more curbs, gutters, lawns, and other assorted street debris than I did with that Crew Cab. EVERY car has its blind spots. Some bigger, some smaller. The Camaro does have quite a few large ones but I've gotten used to them and drive accordingly. PLUS...I bought both convertibles because I like to drive with the top down and this mitigates a boat load of blind spots. Item #2: Automatics turn faster laps, faster 1320s, and are smoother and less hassle to drive. Item #3: That's what the rev matching paddles are for....also, see #2. Item #4: Totally agree but if you think YOUR trunk is bad you should see my convertible! UGHHHH!!! Item #5: I think this is more of an issue with the length of the doors. They are loooong! They make it really difficult to get in and out of the car. I've taken to parking where I have more room to get the door all the way open so that it's easier to get in/out. If you can swing the door all the way to the last catch it makes it easier to get in/out.

    Yes! Gear lash! I didn't know this had a name. Always going from 1st 2nd...let out clutch slowly and a lil lurch n power dip for a split second. So I give it more gas to compensate for the lil dip and then she jumps which is cool and all but like you said. During regular driving or in traffic it's never the same twice. It's like a wheel of possibilities every time. Then every once in awhile second drops in like butter. I'm thinking it may be the rear diff because it's geared so aggressively second just wants to drop and dig and not burn the tires. But on normal driving she either drops and jumps or let her fall on her face and just wait for 3rd for all to be butter again."2nd is normal"...well fine!😂

    "gear lash" is just engine braking

  • @adamhose5231

    @adamhose5231

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Toymonkeyjr he might be talking about just engine braking and not using the proper term saying gear Lash. But gear lash is not engine braking. Gear lash is the amount of play you have between the gears.. and when I say in between the gears I don't mean between first and second gear I mean between the actual gears in the differential or the transmission. If you have too much gear Lash you can create chatter and pitting on the surfaces and or have improper lubrication between the gears, and if it's too tight again you can have improper lubrication between the gears and create added friction. So his term of gear lash is not technically correct as what I think he's trying to say is engine braking. But my question to him is whether or not he had an electric locking differential or a limited slip because a lot of electronic locking differentials stay open after a certain speed, say 40 mph for example but then they will lock when you get below a certain speed and or apply a certain level of throttle and or braking they will open or close depending on what's needed.. so my question was whether or not what he is feeling is the ELD engaging and disengaging at lower speeds.

  • @Toymonkeyjr

    @Toymonkeyjr

    Жыл бұрын

    @@adamhose5231 that friction doesn't cause you to be jerked forward though, at least as violently, I get what you mean though. The reason why it happens in 1st and 2nd under 40mph is because of the greater torque, and thus stronger engine braking.

    Hey Bro I have a 2021 1SS 1LE and I agree with you on getting in and out is difficult and also painful for an important part of the male anatomy... However I found a solution. Before you deplane adjust the seat all the way back and set the steering wheel at high position and its a LOT easier. I'm a lot older than you so its even harder for me if I don't do all that. LOL

    Was going to get a 2018 2SS ILE in red. Beautiful car. Turns on a dime. I didnt get it tho in 2018 because I didnt want a manual transmission. You cant shift by hand faster than my 8 speed and newer 10 speeds that followed. It's great to bang gears but the precious seconds you are taking to shift, the automatics are pulling away. So I bought my 18 2SS with the 8 speed. Great car tho either way. Comes down to preference I guess.

    Trunk is a submarine hatch... I owned a 2011 Inferno Orange SS with white SS stripes.. Traded it in on a 2018 Mustang GT... It feels like you get more car for your money with the Camaro because it is a bit bigger ( I know they got a little smaller around 2016 but I have drove one & it does handle a lot better than the 2011 but visually from the drivers perspective it still feels about the same as the 2011 ) but i liked that.. I like both cars, the Mustang & Camaro but the Ford does feel more compact which isn't necessarily a bonus.. The mustangs side windows seem too long while the doors seem too short.. IMHO.. for $2.99), a 2.2K ohm 0.5 watt resistor from Radio Shack (when they still existed ) would cure that 1st to 3rd pain in the ass problem

    No. 1 thing you hate about the Camaro SS 1LE...it isn't a ZL1 1LE? Oh wait, you had one of those and traded it in for the SS 1LE. I kid! I'm big believer in buying whatever tickles your fancy and don't worry about what someone thinks of it. A little over a month ago I decided I wanted to trade out of my 2019 Dodge Challenger Widebody Scatpack after 10 months of owning it. Not enough power for me. I went to go look at a new 2019 Camaro ZL1 1LE in Orange Crush. I was interested in buying that car but I could reach acceptable terms with the dealer -- in short they wanted full sticker on a left over 2019 and I wasn't willing to bite even though I wanted the car. I ended up buying a 2013 Corvette Z06 with 2.330 miles on it. Very happy with my decision. The Vette is going to Race Proven Motorsports for a heads and cam package that should get it about 620 whp.

    The hud saying it is skip shifting for fuel eco ticks me off every fucking day. It isn't shifting anything, I am, its a STICK! The truck is the worse daily driver gripe. Big car, a trunk opening smaller then a decent carry on bag. Imm glad I am not the only one with the 2nd gear issue! Some days it shifts fine, and then out of the blue it goes into imm not going in to 2nd mode.
