For me, anytime the pokeball freezes when catching a pokemon, if it has frozen when it's big, I wait for about 30 seconds on that screen before restarting my app and everytime I have done that I've gotten the pokemon that was seemingly stuck in the ball. If it freezes when the ball is small it will never be caught.

If you are trying to catch Pokemon but they are invisible, go out of Pokemon Go and then go back in and it will display your Pokemon, if the game freezes when catching Pokemon, close it then go back into it, your caught Pokemon will be in your list. Helpful tips if this happens, I have tried it and it works all the time.
